Duty

Vera watched as Reynolds slept calmly on the bed. She could observe the way his chest heaved up and down, and she had never been any more grateful than she was at that moment.

Who knows what could have happened if he hadn't saved her? Vera tried her best not to think about the possibility, but the more she tried, the more the possibility filled her mind. It would have been her, lying on that bed, wounded, or possibly even worse. She would have been dead, lying outside with the other corpses, waiting to be buried. She shuddered and shook her head in an attempt to free her mind from the horrid reality.

Reynolds took a deep breath. Vera glanced at him and actually got to appreciate how good-looking he was. They had met a few times in the palace whenever he would accompany Alastair to the palace, and if she was on duty. They never spoke, although, she had always been quite fascinated by him.
