The first thing that Vera heard was the guttural growl followed by the clicking. She froze there, thinking about what sort of animal could possibly make such a noise. Vera felt her anxiety increase but she did not show it. She had to maintain a calm composure. The fate of her guards depended on it.

Then, she saw something move in a blur. She could not figure out what it was exactly but it was there, and it was watching. She took a step back and helped some of the people cross into the dome, and then, she saw another blur.

"We have company. Get ready!"

She called out to her guards who drew their Weapons in a single, precise, and uniformed move. The guards then arranged themselves into a formation, one of each facing opposite sides, with the rest of them and Vera standing in the center.

The mages were helping more people into the dome, and when Vera looked at Reynolds' face, she realized that she should have trusted him completely. He was right after all. There was something there.
