Alastair stirred intently at the cube as he tried to figure out what it was exactly. He had been there in that same position for over Seven hours, and he was not getting anything. Alastair was gradually getting frustrated by the lack of knowledge, and for a day that seemed to begin so well, he was not having it easy.
"For god's sake!"He cursed as he felt a sharp headache. He had even forgotten to eat due to the stress. He knew he needed to figure out the answers to the questions. If he had any hope of thwarting Corvius and his plans, it had to begin from the cube. But, how could the cube serve as a gateway, and how was Corvius absorbing them? It was his first time hearing of such a skill. He felt so weak at that moment.Alastair took a deep breath. Perhaps he was overthinking again. He slowly stretched out his hand towards the cube and as the white light from his hand shone on the cube, he tried to feel for any other forms of energy which he could capitalize on. But nothing came."Come on. Open, glow, do whatever it is you do, and let me see!" He said but the cube continued to thrum. A frustrated Alastair groaned and stopped. He hit the table and groaned again."It will not work that way." Someone said to him and Alastair turned. It was Drax. He slowly approached Alastair and kept his distance from the high mage."How so?" Alastair asked him"I just know. As I said earlier, we did not really understand how it works in Venjar. We only guessed and when it seemed to have an affinity for me, they told me to take it and run." Drax stated."An affinity for you? I don't understand." Alastair said.Drax stretched out his hand towards the cube and the cube suddenly flew towards him. He caught it and looked Alastair in the eye."It seems like it recognizes what is within me. That way, I can almost communicate with it like it's an actual person." Drax added."What is within you?" Alastair asked."A dragon. At least, his spirit. The soul of a dragon is present within me. It is the source of my magic. It's how I can communicate with the cube. But when it mattered, all I could do was run. I could not even save my mother. I felt worthless." Drax stated and bowed his head in shame."I understand how you feel. It is never easy to lose people. But you did not let them down. You fulfilled your purpose. You brought the cube to me, as instructed by your mother. Speaking of which, why did she ask you to bring the cube to me? I have no contacts in Venjar." Alastair said to Drax."Well, my mother wasn't always a resident in Venjar. She once lived in Elderien, even before I was born. This is where she met my biological father. She told me nothing about him other than the fact that he was a very important man at the time.Maybe she heard of you while she was here. She did state that you are arguably the most powerful mage in the world. You are a dragon lord. That is unusual." Drax added and Alastair felt his chest tighten. He took a closer look at the boy and he could see the resemblance even more. But it wasn't possible. She told him she aborted it. Did she keep the baby? Did she live in silence all this while? "But you are a dragon lord. The cube is supposed to detect your status and obey you as well. Why isn't it?" Drax was pulled into confusion. Alastair just watched him and the truth was getting even clearer. He was his son. He just knew it. But how did he get a dragon's soul inside him?"How did you get a dragon's soul inside you?" Alastair asked but as Drax was about to answer, the door to the study opened.Three mages walked inside, with the one in front holding a large box in his hand.It was Reynold, the one who had sparred with Cara. "High mage, we have the sun sphere," Reynold said and settled the box on the table. He shot a quick glance at Drax who stepped back."Good. Open the box." Alastair commanded and stood up. Reynold opened the box and revealed a molten red sphere whose heat immediately began to spread across the room. Drax was amazed by what he saw."This might be our final defense against the northerners. We must be ready. Reynold."Alastair said and Reynold bowed. He then closed his eyes and began to draw a rune with his hand. As soon as he was done, several other copies of the sun sphere were made. Alastair stretched his hand towards the copies and invoked a spell which heated them all up as well. Soon, the room was getting uncomfortably hot. Alastair quickly boxed the other spheres."Take these to other villages and provinces within Elderien. Be quick. You know what to do." Alastair commanded and Reynold left with the replicas."I need to be alone," Alastair said to Drax who nodded and walked away from the room as Alastair stared at the sun sphere. As soon as Drax closed the door, he took a deep breath. Alastair had a suffocating aura. Now he understood what the fuss was all about."Did he give you a hard time?" Cara, who was standing by the side asked him. Drax looked at her."No. He was very accommodating." Drax responded and Cara arched a brow."That does not sound like Alastair. But I'll allow it. My name is Cara." She said and stretched her hand for a handshake. He took it."I'm Drax. But you probably already knew. Are you his daughter? He seemed very fond of you." Drax asked but Cara shook her head."He's my guardian. He's also my master. Do you know why your mother asked you to come here?" She asked him."No. But I have a feeling that they knew each other, you know? My mother was very secretive about her past. It surprised me when she told me to come here."Cara just nodded. She could see more of the resemblance. He was definitely Alastair's son or at least a relative."I sense great magic within you. You are a very powerful Mage." He said to her.She was about to say something when they heard a loud explosion from the distance. Both of them exchanged glances and next came another explosion which shook the foundations of the palace itself. And then came the creeping cold. The ground and the walls began to freeze and when Alastair dashed out of his study, he knew what was going on.Corvius was back! The rapid freezing of the floor and the walls, even the trees and pieces of furniture told Elderien that something terrible had come back barely hours after it left. People watched as the ice spread, and darkness covered the sky. They still did not think it was so dangerous until a man standing close to a piece of creeping ice crunched to touch it. Immediately he did, the man froze on the spot and the people around gasped."Run!"A woman screamed as another man froze in the spot and that was when they saw the large icy dragon flying and roaring in the sky.The dragon roared again and flew down, and as it did, it opened its mouth and shot a stream of ice at the residents who tried to escape from the beast. They froze on the spot and immediately, the beast roared again, shooting another stream at more people.Cries and screams filled the air as the residents of the capital tried to escape the dragon, but it was hopeless. They hid as best as they could but the dragon didn't relent. As a
Silence. That was the only thing Elderien could hear at that point. There was total silence in all of the capital's minds, and the faintest creaking of the doors and the shuffling of weapons convinced everyone that they were in for something terrible. The energy from the sun's sphere had spread across the capital, forming a yellow dome of energy that gave off little Sparks. The dome was deep yellow in colour, and the heat it provided was enough to warm the capital. But that was not the only problem the capital faced. From where they stood, the Elderien people could see that the outside world had been enveloped in a thick, terrible winter. The clouds had turned dark as well, and lightning could be seen flashing in the sky. The wind outside was terrible, causing a snowstorm to blow. How could the world be under the influence of such a powerful spell? How could they survive? For Alastair, the sight of his dead dragon's outline from the Sparks was one of the things that filled him with
There was darkness spreading over the capital. The snowstorm was blowing harder than it had been before and the dome flickered while the storm blew. Alastair and Miranda dashed outside to behold what was happening. There were several other guards standing in awe by that time. They looked as the darkness kept spreading and each of them grabbed their Weapons tighter.Kevin showed up behind Drax and stood far away from the others. He watched the whole thing and said nothing in the process. He was not even interested in what was happening, and so, he turned around and walked out of the scene."What is happening?" Miranda asked as she kept looking. The energy from the dome flickered like it was rebounding something."He is trying to break the dome. He wants to freeze it." Alastair responded to Miranda. She gasped softly as he said the words and confirmed her fears. Miranda quickly took Alastair's hand and squeezed it."But he cannot do it, right? The sun sphere is pure sun energy. Freezin
As the raging of the storms continued, Alastair walked inside. He could feel the entire environment getting toxic at the sight of his failure. As he walked into the palace, he wondered if that was how he would spend his last days, waiting for the day his death would come. But what could he do? He was defenseless, and he seemed useless.Maybe he should take a trip into Corvius' mind and destroy him from within. It would work, would it not? He Just needed to gather his strength and ask Zora to take the trip. Zora was a telepath, and she was capable of powerful things even if she did not know it. As Alastair contemplated the idea, he laughed within himself. He knew it was not going to work for obvious reasons.Zora could not manage such a task. It was beyond the scope of her abilities and Alastair doubted that someone as powerful as Corvius would just leave their mind unguarded. Did he even know the extent of Corvius' magic? He seemed to be a defensive mage. There was an aura of dark mag
Alastair staggered back as Drax mentioned the name. He had expected it, but he prayed it was not true. It wasn't supposed to be true. This was not supposed to happen. She told him she had aborted it. Or perhaps it was just a coincidence, perhaps it was another Sarah. It was a pretty common name."What do you know of your father?" Alastair asked Drax."I never knew him. I never even met him once. My mother said he didn't want us when she was pregnant, so she had to leave." Drax responded and took a glance at Cara when she breathed deeply."Did she tell you she was from here?" Alastair asked him but Drax shook his head."And the dragon bound to your soul, how did you get it?" Alastair asked Drax."I do not know. My mother once mentioned that I got it from my birth father. She said he was a very powerful man in Elderien. I am wondering if it was the king. Perhaps that would be the only reason why he would abandon us. He could not put up with the scandal. It is actually understandable." D
Corvius punched the dome with all he had and watched as the energy vibrated on the dome. He growled as he punched again, this time, putting in even more energy than he had before. He punched and watched as the dome shook with all of the energy it was absolved, but nothing happened. The dome remained as strong as ever, and it remained upright even as Corvius punched. The sun sphere gave off sparkles of energy like it was fighting back, a move that irritated Corvius."That's how you wanna play? We'll play!" He spat as he took a step back. He didn't even care that his army was behind him, watching all of his actions. The Northerners stood there and watched as their leader struggled with the dome, and it was not a sight that filled them with pleasure. But Corvius did not care about them or their feelings! The only thing he cared about was how his image reflected himself and at that point, he was feeling useless! He roared as he shot a stream of ice from his hand at the dome. The impact b
"You are disturbed..."Corvius heard Asmodeus say behind him as the demon appeared out of thin air. Since Asmodeus' binding with him and the absorption of the primal cubes which allowed demons to enter the plane, Asmodeus has been able to easily traverse both worlds, a leisure he enjoyed because of Corvius."I have faced the greatest humiliation of my life. I was so close to Victory and I watched as it got taken from me. I was a fool to underestimate the Elderiens. It will not happen again."Corvius calmly stated and the demon chuckled lightly."Was he there? Alastair, was he there?" Asmodeus asked Corvius."He was. He is the one responsible for this sphere. That mage helped him. They literally kicked me out of their Kingdom."Corvius scoffed at the reality. He was nearly running madly from the Shame."You never should have expected less from that Kingdom. They are the Pinnacle of strength as far as these lands are concerned. They have a strong army which is probably on their way here
The calm, the quiet, the serenity.Alastair watched as the incense burning in the room took him back to memories from a time long ago. He stood at the side of the room where Cara lay on the bed, covered with a large piece of bedding that nearly swallowed her whole. She was not moving, and her eyes were shut tight. As Alastair continued to observe her, he was taken back to the time when he watched a healer use the power of incense to amplify her powers and perform a very powerful spell to drive out a blood-sucking parasite. The parasite had taken root inside a man's intestines and sucked out blood within him. It started as a simple pain in the guts, which quickly spread even before the man knew it. The pain intensified as the parasite which was getting larger began to dig through the Anterior abdominal wall of the man.Alastair had witnessed it during his rotation with healers to learn the basic art of healing. He was fascinated by that particular event and when the healer started the
