The rapid freezing of the floor and the walls, even the trees and pieces of furniture told Elderien that something terrible had come back barely hours after it left. People watched as the ice spread, and darkness covered the sky.
They still did not think it was so dangerous until a man standing close to a piece of creeping ice crunched to touch it. Immediately he did, the man froze on the spot and the people around gasped."Run!"A woman screamed as another man froze in the spot and that was when they saw the large icy dragon flying and roaring in the sky.The dragon roared again and flew down, and as it did, it opened its mouth and shot a stream of ice at the residents who tried to escape from the beast. They froze on the spot and immediately, the beast roared again, shooting another stream at more people.Cries and screams filled the air as the residents of the capital tried to escape the dragon, but it was hopeless. They hid as best as they could but the dragon didn't relent. As another attack stirred, northerners began to appear out of thin air and attacked the people. But while the butchering was in progress, Reynold led a group of Elderien mages and Joined the fight. Soldiers came with them as well."Protect the people. Send these Intruders back to their holes!" He yelled and suddenly produced copies of himself, kicking the first northerner he encountered while his clones took the tall man down.Meanwhile, Lord Kevin was unaware of the terror happening outside the palace. He had sobered up as commanded by his sister. He did not want to hurt her Actually, but the longer he stayed without alcohol, the more he was beginning to lose his mind. He started to hear Lila's voice again. The voices grew louder and louder and when he was certain that he would run mad very soon, he decided to quickly get some wine.Kevin noticed the unusual chill in the air but his mind was too clouded to think straight. He saw the walls gradually freezing, and he noticed that the corridor was totally empty. Kevin began to pay attention to the details. Something was wrong. He heard an explosion from the distance and dashed forward. They haven't had an attack in years. Was it the Mintovals again? He quickly turned into another corridor, but what he saw made him shiver for a moment. It was Obaro. He stood there, hands and spear dripping with the blood of the servant he had just killed. Obaro slowly turned around and looked at Kevin. He growled softly and chuckled when he saw that Kevin did not run."You are not supposed to be here," Kevin said to him and Obaro chuckled."This will be fun." He said and suddenly dashed towards Kevin.Kevin was surprised by his speed and the lightness of his large body. He barely unsheathed his sword to block the attack which sent him crashing to the wall. Kevin gazed at the man again. His strength was monstrous!Obaro chuckled and attacked Kevin again with a charge. Kevin dodged the attack and tried to hit but Obaro predicted the move, grabbed Kevin, and slammed him on the ground. As he tried to stab Kevin with his spear, Kevin dodged it and the spear shattered."Ah!" Obaro grunted in frustration as he formed a new spear. Meanwhile, Kevin who was already bleeding out twisted the hilt of his sword In a sequence. The hilt rotated and so did the sword itself which slowly elongated and formed a double-edged spear. He had asked Alastair for an upgrade.Kevin blocked Obaro's attack with the spear and continued to do so until Obaro's Spear nearly broke Kevin's. Kevin quickly separated the spear into two separate components and held them like swords with long hilts. He attacked Obaro but the latter was just too superior. He disarmed Kevin, smacked his head on the wall, and kicked him so hard he flew in the air before crashing to the ground.Kevin coughed as he tried to stand, but he was too beaten up. He could barely even breathe."You are nothing compared to me. You did put up a good fight, Elderien. Now, it's time to die." Obaro said and threw his spear at Kevin. Kevin quickly dodged the spear whose impact on the ground created a crack on the ground. Immediately, Kevin touched the wall beside him, and a secret passage opened. He quickly went through and the passage locked. He could hear Obaro trying to break through as he hurried and took another route. There were so many dead bodies on the ground. He walked towards a window and took a look at the palace courtyard. It was a full-blown war!He watched as guards tried their best to keep the northerners at Bay, but they were not doing so well. How did it get so bad? What went wrong? At that moment, Kevin realized that he had failed his kingdom. He did not even know what the northerners were exactly and he had never fought an enemy like Obaro before.Amidst the crowd, Kevin could see Alastair doing his duty. Miranda was nowhere to be found and Kevin knew he needed to find her quickly.***Alastair held off many as many of the northerners as he could but they were too many. The mages tried to fight, Cara did her best but because of the unstable nature of the Phoenix, she could not fully unleash her powers. Jaghryx roared in the sky and shot flames at the northerners. As the dragon descended, Alastair ran, jumped and twisted in the air, supporting himself with magic as he gracefully landed on jaghryx. But suddenly, what he saw next was a large dragon's mouth with icy, sharp teeth. Before he could do anything, the ice dragon bit jaghryx in the neck and tore it out!"No!"Alastair yelled as jaghryx fell from the sky. The massive amount of blood that sprayed from the wound made the fight in the courtyard come to a stop. Alastair fell with a thud and immediately dislocated his shoulder. Next came the massive weight of Jaghryx as he fell into the courtyard, causing great cracks in the ground. Cara gasped as she watched the horror. Her heart sank and her breath was heavy."No!" Alastair cried out again and crawled toward jaghryx. A soft final growl escaped the beast's mouth before it turned into Sparks. Alastair watched as the Sparks filled the air, and the next thing he saw was the ice dragon.Alastair slowly stood up, angry, and stretched his hand towards a sword. The sword flew towards him and Alastair made it flaming. "You should not fight a war you cannot win, Alastair. Surrender and perhaps you will be spared to work as a servant in my empire." Corvius said as he materialized from thin air.Alastair clenched his sword tightly and charged at Corvius. Corvius froze the ground beneath Alastair and held him in place. Then he gained full control over his body as the ice spread and the next moment, Alastair was flying in mid-air, half frozen. His magic formed a shield for him as he fell to the ground."Your emotions get the best of you, mage." Corvius mocked.Alastair quickly warmed himself and stood up. He yelled as he shot a continuous stream of fire at Corvius who blocked it with an icy wall.He controlled the snow around and shot it at Alastair while blocking his fire. Alastair also conjured a wind and blocked Corvius' attack. He yelled again as he pushed further, but then his fire froze and the Ice quickly spread to his hand. Alastair cried out as his hand froze and a powerful blast from Corvius sent him flying again.Corvius walked closer to Alastair, raising his hand to strike him dead. But then, he sensed something coming at him from behind.Corvius created a massive ice shield to block the flames from the Phoenix about to hit him. He charged as the energy pushed him back and Cara applied more force. But then, Corvius shot a powerful ice blast at Cara which hit her, got absorbed into her body, and exploded from within her. She gasped as her eyes turned normal, and her skin turned pale. She shivered, took a step back, and collapsed.Alastair watched in horror! How could he... defeat the Phoenix?"You rely on inconsequential things to keep you safe. You have no idea what horror awaits you. You will submit to me and this Kingdom will fall. Any last words?"The last statement was directed to Alastair who could barely even move. His skin had turned pale as well, but Cara was almost ice."Hey!" Drax called out from a distance and threw the sun sphere. As Alastair saw the sphere, he said the spell and the sphere exploded, forming a dome around the palace that kept expanding. Corvius and the rest of the northerners screeched in pain as the heat from the sun sphere burned them. They quickly disappeared and the ice that had formed around the palace started to melt.Alastair gasped as his body temperature started returning to normal and he quickly dashed towards Cara who was still frozen. Drax hurried to him and shuddered when he saw Cara."The sun sphere won't hold him for long," Drax said to Alastair."I know." He managed to reply. That moment confirmed his fears. Elderien and the rest of the world were doomed!Silence. That was the only thing Elderien could hear at that point. There was total silence in all of the capital's minds, and the faintest creaking of the doors and the shuffling of weapons convinced everyone that they were in for something terrible. The energy from the sun's sphere had spread across the capital, forming a yellow dome of energy that gave off little Sparks. The dome was deep yellow in colour, and the heat it provided was enough to warm the capital. But that was not the only problem the capital faced. From where they stood, the Elderien people could see that the outside world had been enveloped in a thick, terrible winter. The clouds had turned dark as well, and lightning could be seen flashing in the sky. The wind outside was terrible, causing a snowstorm to blow. How could the world be under the influence of such a powerful spell? How could they survive? For Alastair, the sight of his dead dragon's outline from the Sparks was one of the things that filled him with
There was darkness spreading over the capital. The snowstorm was blowing harder than it had been before and the dome flickered while the storm blew. Alastair and Miranda dashed outside to behold what was happening. There were several other guards standing in awe by that time. They looked as the darkness kept spreading and each of them grabbed their Weapons tighter.Kevin showed up behind Drax and stood far away from the others. He watched the whole thing and said nothing in the process. He was not even interested in what was happening, and so, he turned around and walked out of the scene."What is happening?" Miranda asked as she kept looking. The energy from the dome flickered like it was rebounding something."He is trying to break the dome. He wants to freeze it." Alastair responded to Miranda. She gasped softly as he said the words and confirmed her fears. Miranda quickly took Alastair's hand and squeezed it."But he cannot do it, right? The sun sphere is pure sun energy. Freezin
As the raging of the storms continued, Alastair walked inside. He could feel the entire environment getting toxic at the sight of his failure. As he walked into the palace, he wondered if that was how he would spend his last days, waiting for the day his death would come. But what could he do? He was defenseless, and he seemed useless.Maybe he should take a trip into Corvius' mind and destroy him from within. It would work, would it not? He Just needed to gather his strength and ask Zora to take the trip. Zora was a telepath, and she was capable of powerful things even if she did not know it. As Alastair contemplated the idea, he laughed within himself. He knew it was not going to work for obvious reasons.Zora could not manage such a task. It was beyond the scope of her abilities and Alastair doubted that someone as powerful as Corvius would just leave their mind unguarded. Did he even know the extent of Corvius' magic? He seemed to be a defensive mage. There was an aura of dark mag
Alastair staggered back as Drax mentioned the name. He had expected it, but he prayed it was not true. It wasn't supposed to be true. This was not supposed to happen. She told him she had aborted it. Or perhaps it was just a coincidence, perhaps it was another Sarah. It was a pretty common name."What do you know of your father?" Alastair asked Drax."I never knew him. I never even met him once. My mother said he didn't want us when she was pregnant, so she had to leave." Drax responded and took a glance at Cara when she breathed deeply."Did she tell you she was from here?" Alastair asked him but Drax shook his head."And the dragon bound to your soul, how did you get it?" Alastair asked Drax."I do not know. My mother once mentioned that I got it from my birth father. She said he was a very powerful man in Elderien. I am wondering if it was the king. Perhaps that would be the only reason why he would abandon us. He could not put up with the scandal. It is actually understandable." D
Corvius punched the dome with all he had and watched as the energy vibrated on the dome. He growled as he punched again, this time, putting in even more energy than he had before. He punched and watched as the dome shook with all of the energy it was absolved, but nothing happened. The dome remained as strong as ever, and it remained upright even as Corvius punched. The sun sphere gave off sparkles of energy like it was fighting back, a move that irritated Corvius."That's how you wanna play? We'll play!" He spat as he took a step back. He didn't even care that his army was behind him, watching all of his actions. The Northerners stood there and watched as their leader struggled with the dome, and it was not a sight that filled them with pleasure. But Corvius did not care about them or their feelings! The only thing he cared about was how his image reflected himself and at that point, he was feeling useless! He roared as he shot a stream of ice from his hand at the dome. The impact b
"You are disturbed..."Corvius heard Asmodeus say behind him as the demon appeared out of thin air. Since Asmodeus' binding with him and the absorption of the primal cubes which allowed demons to enter the plane, Asmodeus has been able to easily traverse both worlds, a leisure he enjoyed because of Corvius."I have faced the greatest humiliation of my life. I was so close to Victory and I watched as it got taken from me. I was a fool to underestimate the Elderiens. It will not happen again."Corvius calmly stated and the demon chuckled lightly."Was he there? Alastair, was he there?" Asmodeus asked Corvius."He was. He is the one responsible for this sphere. That mage helped him. They literally kicked me out of their Kingdom."Corvius scoffed at the reality. He was nearly running madly from the Shame."You never should have expected less from that Kingdom. They are the Pinnacle of strength as far as these lands are concerned. They have a strong army which is probably on their way here
The calm, the quiet, the serenity.Alastair watched as the incense burning in the room took him back to memories from a time long ago. He stood at the side of the room where Cara lay on the bed, covered with a large piece of bedding that nearly swallowed her whole. She was not moving, and her eyes were shut tight. As Alastair continued to observe her, he was taken back to the time when he watched a healer use the power of incense to amplify her powers and perform a very powerful spell to drive out a blood-sucking parasite. The parasite had taken root inside a man's intestines and sucked out blood within him. It started as a simple pain in the guts, which quickly spread even before the man knew it. The pain intensified as the parasite which was getting larger began to dig through the Anterior abdominal wall of the man.Alastair had witnessed it during his rotation with healers to learn the basic art of healing. He was fascinated by that particular event and when the healer started the
"What do you mean you cannot feel the Phoenix?"Alastair asked Cara who stopped sobbing and gazed into nothing in particular. She just sat there as a million thoughts roamed around her mind. She just didn't know exactly how to explain it to Alastair at that time."When I woke up earlier, I felt something shift within me. I thought it was just the aftermath of the attack so I shrugged it off. But I tried to feel my magic just now and I could not. It's not there."She whispered the latter part. Alastair did not say a thing. He just contemplated the problem before him."Your menu?" Alastair said to Cara. She touched her right shoulder but nothing happened. There was no magic to even initiate the process. It was real!"Alastair, what if Corvius killed the Phoenix?" Cara asked and recoiled."I do not think it is possible. The Phoenix cannot be killed. It simply exists and will continue to exist. I do not know what this is but this is not the death of the Phoenix. I am certain there is a lo
They could see the energy which the ghosts had left behind tripping into the cube. As soon as the energy started flowing into the cube, the cube began to thrum. It thrummed so much that the energy it was gaining made it seem like it was going to explode at any moment.Alastair walked closer to the cube and stretched her hand forth. It was finally time for him to cast the spell and he knew that he could not delay any further. He started whispering the words and when he did, the cube thrummed even more. It slowly elevated and gave off Sparks of energy as it hung in the air.Miranda tried to shield her eyes as the sparks became more pronounced. Alastair did not stop chanting. The more he chanted, the more the sparks grew, and the more that happened, the more the energy in the room got sucked.Suddenly, a blast of energy escaped the cube and Blasted Alastair away from the cube, and knocked him on the ground. The same energy had swept Miranda off her feet and crashed her as well. Alastair
"Queen Sophia, remember who we are. We are here to help..." Miranda began as soon as the ghost started approaching them. The ghost did not have a cheer on her face, and all that Miranda could see was the anger and hated that she had carried to her grave. As Sophia began to come too close, Alastair quickly cast a spell and bridged himself between Miranda and the ghost, who at that time was already getting worked up. The ghost opened it's mouth to say something, but like painful transition of death, she could no longer speak. Her mouth suddenly stretched far beyond it's normal limits and it became a hollow mass of darkness.Alastair watched carefully as all the ghost could do was wail. She wailed so much and when she did, the energy in the room changed. It suddenly became dark and Alastair could sense it. So, that was what happened? As the ghost continued wailing, something started happening.Alastair could feel something coming in masses. He exchanged glances with Miranda who seemed to
Alastair and Miranda watched as the King paced up and about in the throne room, baffled, his face creased with worries, he will stop every minute and ponder for a second then goes about pacing again.Miranda wonders what goes on in his mind, watching his every moves with intent.“Pray tell, the heavens that one day, I will not be overthrown by this woman I call my wife.” Marius said, his face looking toward the ceiling in reverence to him looking at the sky as he prays.Marius looked threatened not only at the fact that the people regards his wife more than him and that what if it happens that they start seeing his wife as both king and queen.“No!” Maris thundered, “it can’t happen and it won’t!” He shook his head, “I am the king and I shall act the role of the king, and no one regards the queen than I.” Miranda shuddered and Alastair quickly holds her, it was obvious that the king was overly jealous of his queen Sophia, and his mind has been clouded with hatred for her and at this
“To Queen Sophia!” The audience boomed with roars of laughter emanating from everyone present in the hall.“To You, Our Queen.” One of the noble whisper to the Sophia who gave a hearty smile and raised her glass to everyone. She looked over to the King who wore a face of disdain and disgust but quickly comported his face and smiled at her.“You’re a wonder, my darling. Thank you for winning for us.” Sophia stared at him, unsure of what to say, her mouth quirked and a second later, a smile creeped up her face. “I am filled with happiness to fight for our country and win.”She turned her attention to the crowd, the nobles were the ones who had threw the party for us saying that she was a man in woman form, she had the strength and courage to go war and bring the victory home.“Great Elderiens, admiration to the gods who gave Queen Sophia the strength to go to war and bring victory to us.” One of the nobles said. From the crowd, a woman whispered to another woman beside her. “You see
The third general slowly approached the queen with a smile on his face but the Queen was not smiling. He was quite disappointed when he could not make her reciprocate the emotion that he was showing off."My queen, you should not be here, in this lowly place. You must allow me to escort you into a tent while you make yourself comfortable." The third general said to her and she scoffed. She could not believe her ears."Are you enchanted? Are you under some form of spell?" The queen asked the general who was confused by the nature of her question."I'm afraid I do not understand what you mean...""Are you aware that the capital is burning at this very moment?.are you aware that your king is out there fighting for his people? And what are you doing? You are here eating and resting with your army while the kingdom burns. You have disobeyed a direct order from your king to assist in the battle and you do not feel any remorse. Explain yourself before I have your head."Sophia spat with an a
Queen Sophia dashed into the room closest to her and slammed the door shut. Alastair and Miranda were able to phase through the door and follow her inside. The queen quickly sat down on a chair and took a deep breath, shuddering in the process as she heard another bang on the wall. Queen Sophia began to look at the maps and the books that were scattered across the table. She glanced from one to the other, trying her possible best to make sure that she was not missing anything. But when she heard another bang, she jumped up and took a deep breath to calm herself down. The war was getting more perilous. Sophia knew that Elderien may not survive for long for the reinforcements they were waiting for had not arrived. The enemy they faced had better armoury, better soldiers and a greater chance of. Winning the battle. Queen Sophia knew that it would all soon be over, and when the enemy won, she may have to be killed. And so would her children. No, she could not fanthom the thought of her c
As soon as Alastair and Miranda stepped into the Hall, the doors shut behind them. They could see the cube at the centre of the room, thrumming with energy as they looked around. The ghost stood on a side of the hall, watching them closely and carefully as they observed her as well.Miranda was especially fascinated. She had never thought that she would find the ghost of a queen in the catacombs. The royals were always burried according to the rites of the kingdom but there was something fishy about the Queen's history after all.According to the books, the queen had helped her husband defeat a great for by serving as his Mastermind. However, she wanted to take the throne for herself for she believed that she was more suited to rule than he was. That led to her husband banishing her from the palace and Elderien forever. It was never stated what Became of her after her banishment, but the king remarried and had children with the new wife which continued his lineage. What if there was a
Alastair slowly looked at the direction to which Miranda was pointing to. He was not sure what he would see there but he knew that whatever it was, it was enough to send shivers down her spine. Alastair slowly turned his neck and gazed at the darkness that stood before him. In the midst of the pitch black aura which he could see, he started to make out something like the outline of a person. But it was a shadow. Alastair looked closer. He was certain that it was a ghost, or at least he suspected it was. But he had Never seen a ghost like that one before, and the uncertainty made him uncomfortable."What is that?" Miranda asked him, shaking with fear. What terrified her the most was the fact that the shadow stood still, not moving, not speaking, but menacing enough to show off a Stern warning with it's presence. "I think it is a ghost." Alastair said to her and the realization that the creature had a name made Miranda to become at ease, at least she now knew what she was facing. Alas
Alastair could tell that his efforts to find a suitable reason for the problem he was encountering were not forthcoming. He could not even focus on anything all through the day. As the mages attended to Drax, he walked out of the room to get some fresh air.Alastair saw the dome and remembered what had led him there in the first place. The dome kept giving off Sparks on energy, but Alastair could notice that the Sparks had started reducing. He was not surprised. It was bound to happen sooner than later. But the only issue he had was the fact that he did not know when the dome would finally call it a quit. There has to be a plan for when that happened. That Was what he was trying to do but he was not even successful in that.Alastair was so deep in thought that he did not even notice when Miranda walked up to him. She sighed as she gazed at the sphere as well, and then turning to gaze at Alastair when he did not acknowledge her presence."What are you thinking about?" She asked him. Al
