Silence.
That was the only thing Elderien could hear at that point. There was total silence in all of the capital's minds, and the faintest creaking of the doors and the shuffling of weapons convinced everyone that they were in for something terrible. The energy from the sun's sphere had spread across the capital, forming a yellow dome of energy that gave off little Sparks. The dome was deep yellow in colour, and the heat it provided was enough to warm the capital. But that was not the only problem the capital faced. From where they stood, the Elderien people could see that the outside world had been enveloped in a thick, terrible winter. The clouds had turned dark as well, and lightning could be seen flashing in the sky. The wind outside was terrible, causing a snowstorm to blow. How could the world be under the influence of such a powerful spell? How could they survive? For Alastair, the sight of his dead dragon's outline from the Sparks was one of the things that filled him with terror. Alastair stood inside a room in the palace and looked down from the window onto the courtyard. He still could not believe that it was over, that the very thing of significance which gave him power was gone. Alastair closed his eyes and felt the pressure building in his chest. He was uneasy. Then he turned around and looked at Cara who was lying on the bed.She was still as pale as snow, and her lips were cracked. Elle was attending to her with three other healers and they looked exhausted. Alastair was back to his thoughts. How could he beat Corvius? He was the most powerful thing that he had ever faced, and the way he easily gained victory made Alastair realize that dark things had been hiding behind the veil. His people were powerful as well, and although Elderien soldiers were the best trained in that part of the world, they were nothing compared to the northerners. How could such an enemy be defeated?"Alastair, I need you!" Elle called out to Alastair and he dragged himself towards Cara."I need you to transfer some of your energy into her. She's freezing up. She needs heat, a lot of it." Elle said and Alastair hesitated."I-I don't think I can help that much. I lost my dragon. That means I lost the energy I used to have. What I carry now may not be enough to do what you want." Alastair said and sighed."Nonsense. I can sense your energy. It's still the same. Now, hurry! She is freezing. The Phoenix is frozen inside her. If she dies now, she will not come back." Elle said and Alastair was surprised by both facts he heard. He quickly stretched out his hand and took Cara's, letting his energy flow into her. Cara breathed sharply as the energy transferred from Alastair into her Body. Her body soon lit up with white light and Elle started chanting. She kept chanting as Alastair kept doing what he was doing and when Alastair started to feel the strain, the white light turned yellow. Elle did not stop chanting. The yellow light soon formed a cocoon around Cara and the sharp burn Alastair felt made him drag his hand away.Cara slowly relaxed as the cocoon surrounded her. She didn't look better but she was calmer."That will do, for now," Elle said to Alastair who took a step back and popped out his menu.Nothing changed.Name: High Mage AlastairStatus: Dragon LordAffiliations: Elderien's keep...Nothing changed! But how could he remain a dragon lord when his dragon was dead? Alastair sighed and walked out of the room. He felt uncomfortable with the fact that there were so many questions he didn't have any answers to.The walls of the corridor were stained with blood and they were cracked as well. The ground was not looking good either. The walls and the ground were wet from the melting ice. Alastair walked past some servants trying to clean things up, as well as some bruised soldiers. He trudged towards the throne room and opened the door. There, he found Miranda, Kevin, and Drax, speaking. They all gazed at him as he walked inside and in Miranda's eyes, all she could see was a broken, confused man. She quickly walked up to him and took his hand."How is she?" Miranda asked."Elle is attending to her," Alastair responded. He looked at Kevin and then at Drax who stood at a side of the room, gazing at the pair."How are you?" Miranda asked Alastair. She could sense his tension."I'm fine," Alastair responded. Miranda knew that was a lie but she decided not to push it."Come, join us. We were just discussing how to remedy this situation. As it stands now, there are good news and bad news. The good news is that we are safe, for now. The bad news is that we are also trapped here inside the capital. The sun sphere won't let anyone out." Miranda said to Alastair."We are not trapped. I designed it that way. I will make modifications as soon as I can. But it is Paramount that we all stay inside the sphere." Alastair responded."The sphere will not hold forever. Sooner than later it will come down and we will be attacked again." Drax said to Alastair."I know. I will find a solution before then. I will get us all out of this mess. The mad king cannot take Elderien. I will make sure of it.Alastair said to them and although even he did not believe that statement, he knew he had to try. Everyone inside the court looked to him for answers because he was their genius, but he did not feel like a genius anymore. He felt like a fraud. As Alastair was still lost in thought, Elle dashed into the throne room. She was almost breathless as her eyes were ravaged with worry."You all need to come outside, now!"There was darkness spreading over the capital. The snowstorm was blowing harder than it had been before and the dome flickered while the storm blew. Alastair and Miranda dashed outside to behold what was happening. There were several other guards standing in awe by that time. They looked as the darkness kept spreading and each of them grabbed their Weapons tighter.Kevin showed up behind Drax and stood far away from the others. He watched the whole thing and said nothing in the process. He was not even interested in what was happening, and so, he turned around and walked out of the scene."What is happening?" Miranda asked as she kept looking. The energy from the dome flickered like it was rebounding something."He is trying to break the dome. He wants to freeze it." Alastair responded to Miranda. She gasped softly as he said the words and confirmed her fears. Miranda quickly took Alastair's hand and squeezed it."But he cannot do it, right? The sun sphere is pure sun energy. Freezin
As the raging of the storms continued, Alastair walked inside. He could feel the entire environment getting toxic at the sight of his failure. As he walked into the palace, he wondered if that was how he would spend his last days, waiting for the day his death would come. But what could he do? He was defenseless, and he seemed useless.Maybe he should take a trip into Corvius' mind and destroy him from within. It would work, would it not? He Just needed to gather his strength and ask Zora to take the trip. Zora was a telepath, and she was capable of powerful things even if she did not know it. As Alastair contemplated the idea, he laughed within himself. He knew it was not going to work for obvious reasons.Zora could not manage such a task. It was beyond the scope of her abilities and Alastair doubted that someone as powerful as Corvius would just leave their mind unguarded. Did he even know the extent of Corvius' magic? He seemed to be a defensive mage. There was an aura of dark mag
Alastair staggered back as Drax mentioned the name. He had expected it, but he prayed it was not true. It wasn't supposed to be true. This was not supposed to happen. She told him she had aborted it. Or perhaps it was just a coincidence, perhaps it was another Sarah. It was a pretty common name."What do you know of your father?" Alastair asked Drax."I never knew him. I never even met him once. My mother said he didn't want us when she was pregnant, so she had to leave." Drax responded and took a glance at Cara when she breathed deeply."Did she tell you she was from here?" Alastair asked him but Drax shook his head."And the dragon bound to your soul, how did you get it?" Alastair asked Drax."I do not know. My mother once mentioned that I got it from my birth father. She said he was a very powerful man in Elderien. I am wondering if it was the king. Perhaps that would be the only reason why he would abandon us. He could not put up with the scandal. It is actually understandable." D
Corvius punched the dome with all he had and watched as the energy vibrated on the dome. He growled as he punched again, this time, putting in even more energy than he had before. He punched and watched as the dome shook with all of the energy it was absolved, but nothing happened. The dome remained as strong as ever, and it remained upright even as Corvius punched. The sun sphere gave off sparkles of energy like it was fighting back, a move that irritated Corvius."That's how you wanna play? We'll play!" He spat as he took a step back. He didn't even care that his army was behind him, watching all of his actions. The Northerners stood there and watched as their leader struggled with the dome, and it was not a sight that filled them with pleasure. But Corvius did not care about them or their feelings! The only thing he cared about was how his image reflected himself and at that point, he was feeling useless! He roared as he shot a stream of ice from his hand at the dome. The impact b
"You are disturbed..."Corvius heard Asmodeus say behind him as the demon appeared out of thin air. Since Asmodeus' binding with him and the absorption of the primal cubes which allowed demons to enter the plane, Asmodeus has been able to easily traverse both worlds, a leisure he enjoyed because of Corvius."I have faced the greatest humiliation of my life. I was so close to Victory and I watched as it got taken from me. I was a fool to underestimate the Elderiens. It will not happen again."Corvius calmly stated and the demon chuckled lightly."Was he there? Alastair, was he there?" Asmodeus asked Corvius."He was. He is the one responsible for this sphere. That mage helped him. They literally kicked me out of their Kingdom."Corvius scoffed at the reality. He was nearly running madly from the Shame."You never should have expected less from that Kingdom. They are the Pinnacle of strength as far as these lands are concerned. They have a strong army which is probably on their way here
The calm, the quiet, the serenity.Alastair watched as the incense burning in the room took him back to memories from a time long ago. He stood at the side of the room where Cara lay on the bed, covered with a large piece of bedding that nearly swallowed her whole. She was not moving, and her eyes were shut tight. As Alastair continued to observe her, he was taken back to the time when he watched a healer use the power of incense to amplify her powers and perform a very powerful spell to drive out a blood-sucking parasite. The parasite had taken root inside a man's intestines and sucked out blood within him. It started as a simple pain in the guts, which quickly spread even before the man knew it. The pain intensified as the parasite which was getting larger began to dig through the Anterior abdominal wall of the man.Alastair had witnessed it during his rotation with healers to learn the basic art of healing. He was fascinated by that particular event and when the healer started the
"What do you mean you cannot feel the Phoenix?"Alastair asked Cara who stopped sobbing and gazed into nothing in particular. She just sat there as a million thoughts roamed around her mind. She just didn't know exactly how to explain it to Alastair at that time."When I woke up earlier, I felt something shift within me. I thought it was just the aftermath of the attack so I shrugged it off. But I tried to feel my magic just now and I could not. It's not there."She whispered the latter part. Alastair did not say a thing. He just contemplated the problem before him."Your menu?" Alastair said to Cara. She touched her right shoulder but nothing happened. There was no magic to even initiate the process. It was real!"Alastair, what if Corvius killed the Phoenix?" Cara asked and recoiled."I do not think it is possible. The Phoenix cannot be killed. It simply exists and will continue to exist. I do not know what this is but this is not the death of the Phoenix. I am certain there is a lo
How dare he try to tell him what to do?Kevin raged on as he made his way to his quarters. He could not believe Alastair would dare try to tell him what to do. The realization that the mage had gotten bold made him furious. Fine, he would become the prince consult in a while but that did not give him the right. What does it matter if he decided to spend the rest of his days drinking? Why couldn't he focus on the things at hand, like saving the world or defending his queen from danger? Why did he want to overrule?Kevin cursed again, dragging his feet on the ground. The stench of blood still hung in the air and he saw some blood stains on the wall. The bloodstains reminded him of his fight with Obaro. He felt shivers when he remembered the fight. The way Obaro defeated him, the strength he possessed, the speed, it all scared him in a way.He knew what he should be doing, he should be walking around, trying to find ways to reach their allies, contact the generals, and mobilize the army,
