Chapter #05

"Sorry, I can't tell you the details. If you're willing to take care of my son, just do your duty, you don't need to think about things that aren't related to your work," Mrs. Paula explained.

"How can I understand your son's will if I don't know the cause of his paralysis? If I understood from the beginning, maybe I would have survived, unlike what Madame said, many people can't take care of Madame's son!" said Kelly.

"You will find out eventually, miss! For now, no questions that are not related to work. As for your salary, I assure you that it will be enough for your father's medical expenses," explained Madame Paula.

"Alright, when do I start this job? Will I be able to go home every day?" asked Kelly.

"Your job is only from morning to evening, the rest of the time let Aunt Oni take care of it," Mrs. Paula replied.

"Well, you can start tomorrow, you come here early in the morning! Seven o'clock in the morning you'll be at the house, if you can't tell me from now on!" Mrs. Paula added.

"I will try my best. If it's seven o'clock at this house, I will!" Kelly replied firmly.

"For today, Aunt Oni will show you around to get to know the house better. If you have any sensitive questions, don't try to ask her.

Because she is also here as a servant and takes care of my son," explained Madame Paula.

Madame Paula then called out to Aunt Oni who was standing nearby.

"Aunt Oni, please show this lady around and introduce her to all the staff here!" she pleaded.

"Yes, ma'am! Let me show you to your room first," invited Aunt Oni.

"Then I'll take a look around first, ma'am!" Kelly said, asking for permission.

Aunt Oni accompanied Kelly around Madame Paula's spacious house.

Not to mention her basement, which was quite large as well.

"What's your name, young lady?" asked Aunt Oni as she walked over.

"My name is Kelly!"

"Oh, what a nice name for a girl like you. Do you have a last name, miss?" Aunt Oni asked again.

"I don't know if I have a long name or not. But my birth certificate only says Kelly," she said.

"Remember ma'am, if you make it through the critical period of taking care of Mr. Majid, you will get a hefty salary.

I think it's enough to buy a house," Oni's aunt explained.

"Is it true what you say? What about those who failed to take care of Mr. Majid? How did they fail?" asked Kelly curiously.

"Most of them were impatient with Mr. Majid's will. You have to know that Mr. Majid's will is not easily done by people who are not used to working hard. Even though he is paralyzed, he can still speak and it is his words that we sometimes don't understand," said Aunt Oni.

"What are some of his requests that are difficult for us to fulfill, auntie?" asked Kelly.

"I haven't really researched any of her requests that are difficult for us to fulfill. But for sure, he wants us to be by his side," explained Aunt Oni.

"I am assigned from morning to evening only. Aunt Oni will take care of all his needs from then on?" Kelly asked for confirmation.

"Look, I've been taking care of Mister since he was a child. So I know what his needs are at night. Mr. Majid doesn't ask for much at night. Sometimes when he sleeps, we will feel comfortable," explained Aunt Oni.

"No wonder I'm only on duty until the afternoon, Mrs. Paula!" said Kelly.

"You can go home every day without staying here. But if you want to stay here, that's fine too. But what I'm worried about is that you won't like it here at night," said Oni's aunt.

"Why is that, auntie? Is it creepy?" asked Kelly.

"It's not that, but you won't feel at home. Because there's nothing else to do at night here.

The master and mistress are always out at night, and they rarely sleep here. So my advice is that you should come home every day," said Aunt Oni.

"Thanks for the advice, auntie! But I'll try staying here for a day or two. If I feel what you say later, I'll change my mind about coming home every day. But if the atmosphere is pleasant, I'll stay here," Kelly explained.

"It's up to you! I'm just telling you so you can be prepared for all the possibilities," replied Auntie Oni.

"I haven't seen Majid's father, where is he now, auntie?" asked Kelly.

"I told you earlier, he rarely comes home. Most weekends he comes home and sleeps here. He doesn't want his life to be disrupted by his son's condition. So he avoids his son as much as possible, who desperately needs a father's love," said Aunt Oni.

"Why would his father do this, auntie? Does he have any guilt towards Majid?"

"I don't know! I never understood the way of thinking, Mr. Ibra! Sometimes his words contradict his actions. Even his wife is perplexed by such a character," replied Aunt Oni.

"Well auntie, thank you for all the explanations you've given me. I'll start work tomorrow morning, and now I'd like to take my leave to go home and prepare some clothes. I will most likely stay here and come home once a week," Kelly explained.

"You'd better tell the lady that you'll be staying here," Oni's aunt pleaded.

"Alright auntie, I'll tell Madame about it," Kelly said.

Kelly and Auntie Oni went to see Madame Paula again, to inform her that Kelly would be staying.

"So how many days will you be coming home?" asked Madame Paula.

"Every weekend I'll come home, ma'am! But if things change, I'll be home every day," Kelly replied.

"I have no problem with this. Whether you want to go home every day or not go home at all, that's your business! The important thing is that you've done your job here," Mrs. Paula explained.

"Then, if you'll excuse me, ma'am! I'll bring a few changes of clothes. Tomorrow morning I'll be here for my first assignment," Kelly said.

"Please! Does it need to be delivered?" asked Madame Paula.

"Thank you ma'am, but no need. I can go home alone," Kelly replied.

Kelly went back home to prepare some clothes to take to Mrs. Paula's house.

Kelly also intended to tell her father that she would be working as a nurse starting tomorrow.

Kelly had no intention of telling her mother and half-sister about her job.

Because Kelly knew that if they found out, her stepmother would ask for her entire salary.

When Kelly returned home, Mrs. Grace asked about her departure.

"Where have you just come from? What have you got today, huh?"

"Sorry mom, I haven't found a job that suits my skills. I still need time to search," Kelly replied.

"What, how long will it take you to find a job? You haven't even thought about what I've offered!" scolded Mrs. Grace.

"I'm sorry mom, I can't accept the job you're offering. I know the pay is great, but it won't be worth the pain I'll be going through. How can a man approach me when I'm no longer pure? I also want to settle down and have a family, mom! Please don't crush my hopes," Kelly wailed in anguish.

"And you think that all men have never had sex before marriage? You don't want to be fooled by a man, who knows if he's ever done it outside of marriage? So don't be sanctimonious in front of me!" snapped Mrs. Grace.
