chapter eight

I looked at the demons before me, and I don't know what to do. I looked up, and an encrypted message from the system appeared before me.

[SYSTEM: GRIM REPAPER SYSTEM MODE ACTIVATED]

[SYSTEM TASK: RELEASE THE GLOW DEMONS]

[SYSTEM REWARD: $56,000,000]

I looked at the message I got from the system, and I knew I had to face the demons myself. "Don't do anything stupid, Max. We are on our way." Derek shouted through the mind-communication system. "I can handle this on my own; there is no need to panic."

I looked at the demons, and my appearance changed. "This looks cool." I said with a smile, admiring myself in the mirror before me. I charged at the demon, and we fought fiercely, breaking everything in our way. They were stronger than me, and I wonder why. "The territory," my mind reminded me.

I remember how I had put the territory, giving power to Derek and the rest of the reapers. I knew it was something I had no control over. "Find the territory, max." I heard Aurora's voice.

I ran out of the toilet as I made my way towards the school gate. I moved fast, and many of the students wondered who the cloaked figure was. They brought out their camera and videoed the way I moved. The glow demon followed behind me. I could sense they were level two, but I couldn't still take them head-on. I was just a level one Grim Reaper.

I ran towards the outskirts of the city and looked back. They were right behind me. I stood still and made them come into the glowing light before I launched my attack at them. I was able to pin them down, and I looked at their faces. One of them looked familiar, and I wondered why he was possessed by a demon. Why do you want to have me killed?" I asked, looking at their faces.

"You don't know?" One of the demons spoke out against the other student. "Know what?"

"Your energy can be felt by any fire and glow demon. We need your soul to open the gate for the Lord of the demons. "Lord of the demons? What are you talking about?" I asked, looking at it before I heard a rope snap at one of the demons  necks. " Wait!" I shouted at Zoey, but it was too late. She had to exercise the demon and take the spirit to the abyss. I looked at the one I was having under my leg, and Derek moved towards me. "You don't need to speak to them. Don't let them get at you," and with that, he sent the demon to the abyss.

I looked at Gilbert. "They were saying something about the Demon Lord. Do you know what that means?" I looked at him.

"Demon Lord? Are you sure you heard what he said correctly? Demons are cunning creatures; they would say anything to get into your head. You said you want to be just a regular student, right?"

I nodded, looking at Gilbert. "You have done your part. Leave the rest to us and let us take care of it."

[MAX SIGHED]

I looked at Gilbert and back at my phone as it tinged.

[SYSTEM; MISSION ACCOMPLISHED]

[SYSTEM REWARD: $56,000,000]

The money was immediately remitted into my account, and I smiled. Gilbert looked at me and said, "I guess you have received your payment already. Max, you need to be extra careful and listen to us. You need to wait when we tell you too. Not all demons are easy targets, and sometimes the territory power won't be enough to give us strength if the demon's level is higher than our level." Gilbert warned

"What level are you?" I asked, looking at him.

"Does it matter? I am telling you this for your sake. You can't keep running after all the demons  you can have sent back. They also don't want to leave the human world, and they feast on innocent souls and weak humans. Promise me you will be careful." Gilbert looked at me.

"I promise." I replied with a scared face. "You don't need to be scared. You just need to hone your powers and use them the right way." Gilbert smiled, looking at Derek and Zoey, who were in stealth form. They were not back from the Reapers realm.

"Do we need to stay with their bodies?" I asked, looking at the wall beside me.

"Yes, we are vulnerable when we send the demons back to their world. One of us needs to at least stand guard to protect the others."

I looked at Derek and Zoey and wondered what was taking them so long. I looked at myself and noticed my outfit had changed and was back to my uniform. I remember I was having a class, and I rubbed my hair slightly. Gilbert noticed and smiled. "Don't worry, you will get used to all of this with time."

I remembered the territory I created the last time we fought the demons at school. I looked at Gilbert and said, "Can we summon the territory on our own?"

Gilbert looked at me and smiled. "That is not possible, and not everyone can summon the territory," he replied.

"Why me? I was able to do that back at school, but when I needed it the most, I couldn't. Is there something I am not doing right?" I asked, looking a bit worried.

"It will come naturally to you. If it is part of your powers and gifts, then you need to work hard to know how to tap into it. Your power is like a switch. You decide if you want it off or on." Gilbert explained

"What is the work of the territory aside from giving the grim reaper immense power?" I asked, folding my arms.

"Then you need to read the manual on grim reapers." I heard Derek's voice and looked back.

"Is there really a Grim Reaper System book?" I asked, looking surprised.

Zoey laughed, making me intimidated. "No dummy, Derek was just pulling your legs." She said she laughed hard.

"You need to go back to school. Here, come to the gym house when you are done with studies for the day." Derek said, and they walked away. It was as if they could fly.

The movement was fast and precise. I waved down a taxi and headed back to school. As I walked into the school, I noticed all eyes were on me. "Did you see that? It looks like Max," one of the students said, gently looking at me. I froze at the thought of my secret of being a reaper out in the open.
