Chapter seven

I got dressed and headed for school. I needed to take my mind off things and behave like a regular student. I lived my life and graduated, but the truth was that I wasn't normal anymore. I was a grim reaper.

I walked into the school and looked around. The thought of seeing another fire demon was all I could think about. I needed to find the fire demon that had my parent's soul trapped inside of him. I felt a tap on my shoulder and looked back to see that it was Jonas. I looked at his face, and I noticed he didn't remember anything that happened to him. "You look like you are seeing a ghost. Is there something in my face?" Jonas asked, looking at me.

"Are you alright?" I asked again with a smile.

"Shouldn't I be?" Jonas replied

"I guess it worked then." I replied, walking away from him.

"What worked?"

"I need to catch up with the school curriculum activities. Can you help with that?"

" Sure. There will be a night class later today. Would you like to join?" Jonas asked

"Of course, what time?" I looked at him.

"I am not quite sure, but I will make sure to tell you when I am sure. Flora and Zaco are coming, though." Jonas warned, "Are you okay with that?"

I looked at Jonas, and part of me wanted to say no, but I had no reason to hide away from both of them. "I definitely would come; just let me know when and where." I said with a smile, "Thank you."

I looked back at Jonas, and I was glad he didn't remember any of what happened. It was cool having someone to talk to about all of this, but seeing what could happen if he was caught in the middle of it all, it was best if he never had to find out.

I was about to enter my department when I saw Grace. I saw the look on her face and smiled. "You don't need to feel apologetic; that was not your fault."

"Still, I can't believe he would hit you with a brick. Are you alright?" she asked, moving closer to me. "I am; I guess I am better than before if you would ask me." I replied with a wide grin, touching the back of my head.

Grace walked closer. "Would you want to study together later today?" she asked with a smile on her face. There was no doubt I was falling for her, but the thought of her fire demon boy friend scared me. "What about your boyfriend? Is he cool with all of this?" I asked, looking at her.

" Boyfriend? I don't have a boyfriend." Grace replied, and I looked at her with disbelief. "You don't? Then who was that guy that had me knocked out?"

Grace paused for a minute and looked at me. "Why don't we talk about this during the launch period? You can meet me in the school cafeteria." She replied, walking briskly away from me. I looked at her rear and rubbed my hand over my hair. I would definitely have asked her out instead of Flora. "Where was she when I needed a girlfriend?" I thought to myself as I got seated in the classroom, thinking of seeing Grace after class.

"Max! Max!!." I heard a voice calling my name, and I looked back to see who it was.

"Are you alright, Max?" The teacher asked, seeing that I was a bit distracted.

"I am fine." I replied, focusing my gaze on the book before me. I heard my name repeatedly, and I carried my bag while walking out of the class. I went to the restroom and looked around. "Who is that, and what do you want with me?" I shouted in annoyance.

The toilet door was opened, and a Mael student looked at me as he walked out. I saw the look in his eye. "I am not mad!" I shouted in anger at him. "Can you just relax and listen to me?" I heard Derek's voice.

"You could have just told me it was you." I replied, looking at the mirror before me.

"I know you are angry right now, and you need to find the fire demon that has your parent's soul, but you need to be careful, and let's work as a team. You are yet to discover your abilities, and I can help you with them. All you have to do is calm down and trust me." Derek said calmly

I looked at the mirror before me again in anger. "Calm down! Would you calm down if you had your parents killed when you were a child? My hope of becoming what I want—my dream, my world—came crashing down with their deaths, and here you are telling me to calm down." I shouted

" Max, We know how you feel, but the demon in question is unlike anything we have ever faced before. We can't risk letting him harass your powers and gifts. The world would be plunged into chaos if it got a hold of your power." Zoey said gently

"What do you want me to do? I am just a regular kid, and I don't plan for all of this to happen. I don't want to keep seeing demons, and neither do I want to be a grim reaper." I said it with a sigh.

"Look on the bright side, kid, You have the money to do whatever you want, and I am sure you definitely have a girl you would want to impress. You were a nobody before, and thanks to Aurora, the goddess of the grim Reaper system, you became a rich kid. Would you rather go back to the way you were before, a nobody?" Gilbert asked, and there was silence. I definitely love the fact that I was rich and was able to afford what I wanted, but I didn't sign up for some weird demon fights. I thought it was going to be all easy, but having gone through some power struggles with the fire demon, I knew it was just the beginning. The door to the toilet plunged open, and I looked at the two students before me. I looked at them and saw they had a demon in them, but it wasn't a fire demon. "What are you?" one of them asked me with a snarl.
