Chapter Six

The fire demon walked in the direction in which Derek pointed and carried the bed high, tossing it against the wall. "There you are!" The voice resonated through the walls of the room. I looked at Jonas and noticed he was scared of what was unfolding before his eyes. But I was equally scared too. I forgot I was a grim reaper for a minute and tried to think. "What do I do? Think!" I said it silently to myself.

"I am going to kill you and absorb your powers. Imagine how powerful I could become by draining his soul." The fire demon said this before the other reaper.

"No! Do something, Derek!" Zoey shouted out to him.

The fire demon clawed at me, and I managed to dodge without being hurt. He looked at me and smiled. "It looks like you are beginning to accept your true powers. Bring him to his knees." He ordered the demons, and he stepped back.

They all charged at me, and as they moved closer, I shouted, and some power came out of the ground like a rainbow. " What? Can he summon the territory?" The fire demon asked with a frightened look on his face. I looked at Zoey and Derek, breaking free from the demons before them. They were stronger and moved faster, unlike anything I had ever seen before. The fire demon was able to escape while they captured the rest of the demons. "Nice work, Max. For a moment, I thought we were going to lose you." Zoey said, gently moving closer to me.

Derek looked at Jonas, who was trembling in one corner of the room. "I think we would need to have him wiped again."

" Again? I am sure Jonas is fine and can live with all of this." I said, looking at him.

Jonas shook his head and looked at me. "I am sorry, Max, but this is not the life I had envisioned for myself. Fighting demons? I can't deal with any of that."

I looked at Jonas, and I could see he was a little shaken up by what happened. Zoey walked closer to him and had his memory wiped. He fell into a deep sleep while Derek moved closer to me. "You have earned a spot on the team. Now, you need to send the demons back to the abyss. Only a grim reaper can do that." He showed me how it is done.

I was shocked to see the vigorous shaking of the victim's body as the fire demon tried to get out. It let out a cry of agony and collapsed. "Is he dead?" I asked, looking at Zoey.

"Why don't you find out for yourself?" Zoey replied with a smile.

She placed her hand on the demon in front of her, and I did the same too. I watched as the fire demon tried to leave the body in agony and shouted in pain. I held the host down, and soon a light came out of my hands, and I found myself in another world. I saw the silver-haired woman, and she looked at me. "Welcome, Max," she said with a smile.

I saw the demon I had freed from my world standing before us. It was cast into darkness as the door was shut, and immediately it went in.

"Where is this place?" I asked, looking at Aurora.

"You can call it the afterlife."

"Am I dead?" I asked the elderly woman again.

"You are not Max; I had to enter your body when I noticed you were at the point of death," Aurora replied, walking towards her seat.

"How is that even possible? I think he needs to be in a comma before you can take charge of his body." Derek asked, looking at Aurora.

"This has never happened before. I think it happened once, and that was a long time ago." Zeus replied to Derek.

Zeus was Derek's avatar, and they were connected and could even hear each other's thoughts.

"How is he able to summon the territory?" Apollo asked, looking at Aurora.

"I still don't know. I think there is more to Max than meets the eye. Come. " Aurora said, gently leading me away from the room where the others were. "Were you taking me to?" I asked, trailing behind her.

Aurora led me into a white house, and I could see a lot of faces. "Who is this set of people?" I asked, walking closer to her.

"These are the souls of those you had freed from the fire demons. They are souls trapped inside the bodies of the demons. When you had the demon killed and sent to the abyss, you freed the souls of the dead." Aurora said it gently, with a smile on her face.

For the first time in my life, I felt happy that I was saving humanity. I was no longer the sad boy but now a hero. At least that is what I thought myself to be.

"What is it, Max?" Aurora asked, looking at me.

"Do you think maybe I could see my parents?" I asked, looking at Aurora with pleading eyes.

"I am sorry about the death of your parents, but there is nothing I can do about that because their souls are not here at the moment," Aurora replied, looking at me.

"What do you mean their souls are not here? Aren't they supposed to come here and find peace once they are dead?" I asked, looking at her.

"If their souls are not here, it can mean only one thing." I heard Zoey's voice and looked at her.

"What does it mean?" I looked back at Aurora.

"Their souls are trapped inside the fire demon that had them killed," Aurora replied, and tears filled my eyes.

"You mean my parents haven't found peace in the afterlife?" I asked with teary eyes.

"I am sorry, Max. I promise to help you find your parent's killer." Zoey said she was moving closer to me, but I didn't wait for her to reach me. I vanished and got myself back into the human world. I didn't know how I did that, but I guess it came with my ability as a grim reaper.
