004

Everyone there was shocked and watching, those who knew about Adam started to gossip about him.

"Fraud, he say? That's a criminal act!"

"He looks so handsome, but I never expected him to do something shameful."

"Isn't the money from his wife enough? He's the son-in-law of a wealthy and renowned family, how could he stoop so low?"

"Don't you know? He comes from the streets, no wonder his true nature shows."

Feeling encouraged by the surroundings, the chubby man started to provoke Adam again. He spoke in a condescending manner, "You're just embarrassing your wife's family. You fraudster! Isn't it enough that you're milking the McLauren fortune? Now you're deceiving people for money? How pathetic!"

Adam clenched his fists in anger. He was on the verge of hitting the man and finishing him off. But he held back. He knew that violence wouldn't solve anything.

So, cleverly, he called one of his employees and said, "Bring the CCTV footage when this man came to the store. Also, bring our inspection team to retest this item." Adam stared at his opponent with eagle-eyed intensity, wanting to see who would be embarrassed here. He continued, "We have detailed records of the items entering the store, including physical characteristics and other details. So, shortly, we will see who the real fraudster is and who is shouting fraud."

Adam's instructed employee began to move. He brought everything Adam asked for. And as the retesting was about to begin, the cunning customer disrupted and stopped it. He looked panicked and shouted loudly, "Cheater! Why don't you just return my money! Why all this damn fuss!"

Adam glared at him fiercely, incredulous at this crazy man. He then spoke angrily, "The price of this set of cups is almost equivalent to a car! Do you think I will easily fall into your trap? Just watch and see. If I'm right, then I will personally put you in jail.”

The chubby man panicked and trembled; if this continued, he would eventually be caught. He had indeed swapped the item, but he didn't realize that Adam was smarter and more meticulous than he had thought.

If left unchecked, he could end up in jail, which would be very troublesome. So, in a panic and flustered state, he thought about escaping from there.

But as he was about to turn and sneak away, he was immediately blocked by Adam.

Adam asked, "Are you trying to escape?"

The chubby man's face scowled in annoyance, he snarled in front of Adam's face. Then he shouted, "Get out of the way, you bastard!"

Adam grinned, folding his arms confidently across his chest, then said, "What's the matter? This isn't over. Don't you want your money back?"

The man felt cornered and panicked. Adam's dominating gaze added to his confusion, making him unable to think clearly. With frustration, he finally struck Adam's face hard.

"I told you to move, damn it!"

Adam, who almost stumbled, stood back up and retaliated. He had been holding back his anger all this time. This time, he couldn't hold back any longer.

"You bastard!"

His strong punch made the ugly chubby man fall to the ground. People there screamed, and some ran away in fear.

However, the chubby man didn't stay quiet; he had stronger muscles and quickly retaliated against Adam. The fight was so intense that even the security guards had difficulty separating them.

When Adam let his guard down, he was hit and fell, crashing into a jade statue coated with a glass cabinet. The object fell and shattered on the floor.

Adam landed on it, wincing in pain, with shards of glass piercing his right hand. And in an instant, the fight came to an end. The malicious customer was quickly handcuffed and taken away for further interrogation. Meanwhile, Adam was helped to stand by the employees.

His right hand felt numb, and the palm throbbed with intense pain. As everyone busied themselves looking for medication and calling an ambulance, Adam gazed at his injured palm. A shiny black stone was deeply embedded, causing a tear in the wound.

Adam winced at the sight, wanting to remove the stone, but suddenly the blood flowing from the wound was magically absorbed. Witnessing this strangeness, his head throbbed, and he suddenly fainted.

The next day in the hospital, Adam woke up with his right hand bandaged.

Someone waiting for him stood up from the chair and approached him immediately. With a worried expression, he asked, "How are you feeling? Are you in pain? Should I call the doctor?"

Adam took a few steady breaths before speaking. He looked at the person in front of him and sighed wearily. In a slightly hoarse voice, he said, "Other than my itchy hand, I think I'm okay." He massaged his numb palm, then remembered the stone that had been lodged there, puzzled by the absence of any visible injury despite the stone tearing into his skin.

Edwin McClair, a blue-eyed man with a slender face, nodded slightly. He then spoke calmly, "That man who caused a scene at the store yesterday, I've had him thrown into jail." He took a brief breath before continuing, "He's very cunning, Adam. He's part of a sophisticated fraud syndicate that has been counterfeiting jewelry and antiques for years."

Adam sighed wearily, "I know that." Then he asked, "Does Anna know I'm here? She must be worried that I didn't come home.”
