Erik had rushed to Arne's house to ask him about Carl. He has been worried about Carl missing since their return from the east.

"Hello, old man, you never cease to amaze the king. What are you doing?" Erik asked

Arne was trying to put out a fire and cook some food. He was struggling with wood, and his pot of water had poured away without him knowing.

"This wood is hard. I am trying to get it into pieces so I can make some food for myself." Arne responded

"Okay, don't you think it's high time you got a wife or someone to take care of you? At least be helping you with the chores; you don't have to stretch your weak veins," Erik said.

"Well, I have to correct you there; my veins are not weak; I am very strong, like a twenty-four-year old boy; I can take care of myself; I make a good meal more than you; hopefully you will wait; I will finish this meal; you will like it," Arne urged.

Erik laughs. Arne pauses and wonders why Erik is laughing—is it about his meal?
