Chapter 2

Dominic double-checked his phone to confirm he was at the correct address. Standing in front of the private law firm, he read the name as if to reassure himself. Today had been ruined before it even began. Instead of celebrating his anniversary and birthday in grand style, he found himself at the threshold of a legal office.

"Good morning, you must be Dominic, right?" the lady at the reception said with contempt evident in her voice. "Yes, I am. I'm here to..."

"That way, please. You kept everyone waiting, thrash! No wonder she wants a divorce. Such a loser," the receptionist yelled harshly. Dominic remained unfazed; he had encountered such disdain before. The city was toxic, and everyone seemed to take out their frustrations on those they perceived are beneath them.

Dominic attempted to compose himself under the weight of unwelcoming gazes from those around him, their eyes judging him as if he had committed a crime.

He walked into the cold atmosphere created by Diana and her lawyer. Despite the tension, Diana's beauty still caught his eye, warming his heart momentarily as he managed a faint smile. "Sit and sign; I don't have all day, moron," Diana commanded, instantly wiping the smile from Dominic's face.

"Mr. Dominic, this seems like a unanimous agreement. Let's not waste time; please sign here and here. Consider yourself fortunate that alimony wasn't on the table," the lawyer scorned rudely, extending the papers toward Dominic.

Diana responded with a sly grin, "Oh, how generous of me not to demand alimony. I thought I'd spare you the burden of supporting my lavish lifestyle, Mr. Big Shot with his five part-time jobs. Go ahead, keep your riches; they're evidently irreplaceable."

Dominic sat there, briefly glancing through the paper, hoping for a miracle to change her heart. He penned his signature, and with that, they were officially divorced. Dominic took another look at the papers before handing them over to the lawyer.

Diana stood up, a satisfied smile plastered on her face. “I hope to see you again. We... can still be friends. You can come around the restaurant. Bills on me,” Dominic said genuinely, revealing he still harbored feelings for her.

“Friends, you say? I'd have nightmares just looking at your face, Dominic,” Diana barked mockingly, leaving Dominic's face pale instantly. All the love he had for Diana vanished in an instant. She irritated him now.

“My baby is here,” Diana added with a childish demeanor looking through the window at the Porsche that pulled over.

Dominic followed her gaze and saw the Porsche from last night. It must be the car that picked his wife up. He kept his gaze on the car until it opened, and he instantly recognized who stepped out.

“Frank!” Dominic growled, shaking his head in disappointment before leaving the office. Dominic stood aside, watching his wife hug and kiss Frank. He felt jealous—Frank, of all people. That obsessed man who looked older than his age. Dominic faced Frank with disdain. “Well, if it isn't Frank Catt, the knight in shining armor.”

Frank replied with a smirk. "Dominic, my man. Diana tells me you've got no sense of humor.”

“Diana, no need to lie to yourself about true love just because you found a sugar daddy,” Dominic bluntly said, revealing his disappointment.

Diana moved close to Dominic, she seized him with her eyes, it was obvious his words stung her. Her eyes were filled with anger "Oh, Dominic, how naive of you. True love? I had that with you, and what did it get me? Endless struggles and scraping by. I needed more, Dominic, more than your part-time jobs and your worn-out dreams.”

She paused, letting her words linger in the air, and continued, "You were never enough, Dominic. I needed more than your empty promises and financial struggles. Frank provides, and I'm not going to apologize for wanting a comfortable life. Maybe you should learn something from him, rather than wallowing in self-pity."

Frank stepped forward with a calm demeanor, looking directly at Dominic. "Dominic, my man, no need to make this a dramatic spectacle. Diana and I are heading out. She's made her choice," Frank said, his voice steady.

Diana turned to Frank and said, "Baby, let's go. I can't stand to be in the Franke space with this... nauseating."

Dominic stood there in silence, observing as Frank and Diana walked away hand in hand. The day had been filled with enough drama, and he had no interest in adding more. If she didn't love him, she didn't deserve him.

As Frank held Diana's waist and they strolled away, suddenly a car abruptly parked in front of Frank's, nearly hitting both of them. Frank's expression shifted from rage to shock as he prepared to unleash his anger, but his reaction was halted by the stunning woman who emerged from the car.

Eleanor stepped out with grace, relishing the attention she garnered. She was dressed in a perfectly fitting black pantsuit, and her hair was neatly styled to fall just below her shoulders. Striding elegantly towards where Dominic stood, her boots enhancing her height, she locked eyes with him. Taking Dominic's hand, she turned to face Frank and Diana, who both stared with surprise.

"So, Frank," she said with a faux-curious tone, "are you Diana's father?" she asked with a tone dipped in satire, her words dripping with subtle mockery. She gestured gracefully toward Diana, who stood beside Frank, still recovering from the shock.
