“That!was near!”,Lukas says this as he approaches Astrid. He helps His up by reaching down.He is open to assistance.
“Fynn does not remove the safety as he raises his weapon and aims at the monster as though he wants to shoot it down.I want to immediately return to the forest because of that thing that is soaring about. He says this as he takes his weapon down yet again. The pants of Hisiff. As the flying thing flies off, his eyes also follow it.Let's continue. There is no need to repeat it to the others. They keep going quickly in the direction of the huge, untouched farm.Scott peeks inside the once-large farmhouse through a broken window as they pass the charred remains. As was to be expected, the interior is nothing but ash and soot."What took place here?"Out loud, Scott wonders. The fire may have been started by whatever blew out all of our electronics.Perhaps we now have dragons. Why bother?Fynn answers."I would really like to know if dragons are flying around, setting buildings on fire," Noah says while looking over his shoulder.Lukas makes a point of the enormous farm.Regarding fire, take a look. That chimney is emitting this smoke.True, a small cloud of smoke rises from one of the buildings' roofs.Scott turns around after Fynn lets out a sudden breath.I praise God.That indicates that they are still alive. Therefore, are you and your family farmers?,He asks Scott.Fynn frowns, as if he had taken the question as a personal attack.Yes.Farmers make up my patents. Why?”"Shut up you two," Hisiff hisses before Scott can respond. And don't shut your eyes. The smoke indicates that they are definitely people, but the farm as a whole does not appear to be alive. As they get closer, the compound maintains a deathly silence. They hear something creaking.Lukas pulls his gun from behind him as he surveys the area.Someone suddenly yells, "Hello.I'm not armed.Lukas, Noah, and the Hisiff instinctively swing their weapons to point at the source of the voice, despite the fact that it does not sound hostile. The Hisiff quickly recognizes himself, and as soon as he does, he slowly holsters his weapon. Why, Madam Mayor? He says more than he asks. The woman waves for them to follow His and quickly nods. You were coming from the forest, I saw.Come inside right away.Hise is not a safe place. He sounds like he has a cold or slurred sand in his voice.Scott can make out a figure in the distance. As the gray figure charges at them, his heart skips a beat.As the massive wolf accelerates toward them, they all make a collective leap.Everyone raises their weapons, but the overgrown canine has already reached them by the time they react. Before the dog charges past Scott and directly at Fynn, Scott barely manages to let out a yelp.He opens his eyes. However, the animal does not leap at him.close to him.The enormous grey wolf is bouncing around Fynn with his tongue out.All of them drop their weapons.“Oskar? Are you there?”,Fynn queries. The wolf tilts his head in his direction as he approaches him and wags its tail vigorously.Although you returned faster than I did, I thought you had been killed. You have grown a lot, God.”Oskar is no longer a dog, and Scott has no idea what kind of dog he was once.Standing on all fours, his grey-brown fur almost reaches Fynn's stomach."Do you own a dog?"He asks Scott. He had no idea that he would like dogs.Fynn is beaming. That's right.Oskar is here.Hello, Oskar!Oskar looks at each one individually. The Mayor clears his throat with a scowl on his face.Hmhm.Later, you can play with the wolf.Step inside. He turns and jogs toward the building with the smoking chimney as soon as He finishes his sentence. The otHiss need not be told twice to follow His lead. When they get to the door, Oskar stops and looks at them as they enter. They are plunged into a gloomy interior of the building as soon as the Mayor closes the door. There are no windows in the narrow hallway, and all of the doors leading out of it are locked. The stairs at the side of the hallway are the only source of illumination.I see that you are dressed in a police uniform.Have you seen Hisiff?”When everyone is inside, the Mayor asks the Hisiff. The Hisiff says, "I'm Hisiff Winkler," clenching his teeth. After giving the impression of being taken aback for a brief moment, the Mayor smiles.Ah.I see. It's good that you're Mrs. Winkler.Or is it now Miss?Aren't you still married, right?Scott has no idea why the Mayor would inquire about that or why the Hisiff appears to be about to burst.Noah, however, clears his throat and asks the Mayor, "Why isn't everyone in town?" before Scott or anyone else can speak. Why are you hissing? His features darken, and the Mayor immediately loses his smile. He says, "Something is terribly wrong with the town," in a quiet, solemn tone. This is the lingering fog above it.In God's name, I have no idea what it is, but it does something to you."What are you implying?"His, Lukas asks. The woman takes a deep breath before biting His lip.His eyes turn to each of them individually as He speaks.Have you not seen it?Like typical fog, it hangs around the town. However, it is not.Consider this.He reveals His red skin to them.Scott notices, upon closer inspection, that the woman's skin is covered in tiny blisters, particularly on her fingers and face.As if it had been burned.“Before you ask, it hurts,” the mayor continues as he retracts his hand.In the cloud, I didn't feel it, but now it feels like I've been boiled to death. But that's not all it did.I slipped and fell while working late.My mind felt as though the fog had entered it and was clouding my thoughts when I woke up again.Fortunately, I discovered that something was wrong and gathered as many people as would let in.We were graciously given permission to shelter on his farm by Mr. Rot."I couldn't allow those Oni to consume you, could I?...Fynn?”,From the staircase, a man's voice asks.Scott makes a U-turn in the direction of the speaker to observe His child descend the stairs. His body, like Noah's, is covered in brown fur, with the exception of spots of a cream-colored color in his mane and face fur.He appears to be dressed in children's clothing.Fynn moves faster, and it looks like the Mayor is about to say something.Dad?”,He asks.Similar to he is unable to comprehend what he is seeing. When the imp reaches the bottom of the stairs, he sees his son's face looking up at him. It’s me.It appears that your aging relative has finally achieved weight loss. His joke makes him laugh.Fynn still appears somewhat perplexed as Noah greets his fellow imp and extends a hand to him.“Nice to meet you,” the Hisiff adds as he reaches down to shake his hand. Our initial strategy called for us to procure supplies from High Rock, but I guess that won't happen anymore."Actually, I was thinking about that," Mr. Rot replies. In that cloud, the town residents made it through several hours. We wouldn't have any problems even if we went in for half an hour to get a few things. He looks up at the group as a whole.I have a few horses and a working tractor, but my boy and I can't do it on our own, especially with this new body.He points to his small body. The Mayor squints at.We discussed this.I don't think it's wise to go back into the fog.We don't know what it is or how it works. What if the man's illness was brought on by the fog?"What disease?"Before Mister Rot can respond to the Mayor, Lukas intervenes. The woman looks over to Lukas.A town resident went insane. At first, we wanted to hide in a house away from the fog.At first, the person who opened the door appeared normal, but then he bit Mrs. Rot in the shoulder. We killed the man to save his life, but now his wound appears to be infected and he has a severe fever.Astrid feels a chill in her stomach at those words. He also observes Noah's twitching nose. Both of them are thinking the same thing:What if this is a brand-new infectious disease that affects everyone? However, none of them says anything. That seems to have woken Fynn up.He inquires, "Mom is ill?"He seems to be the first person the Mayor notices. The Mayor apologizes, but Fynn cuts him off."Who is He?,"He asks. The Mayor tries to say something, "I don't think-," but he is interrupted once more. His fatHis tries to say, "Son..." but Fynn also cuts him off."Who is Mom?"He inquires and moves closer to the Mayor. The woman says yes.He is upstairs with Dr. Moore.Room two is on the right. We don't know what's wrong with His, so be careful. The concluding phrase is lost on Fynn.He rushes as quickly as he can up the stairs. His followers follow him.He slams the door open to reveal a guest room with few furnishings.A bed, a chair, and a cabinet are the only furniture items. His hands are tied to the bedposts as a woman lies on the bed.He looks awful.Bandages cover his left shoulder. The rest of His body is devoid of color, but black veins appear from beneath the sweaty, blood-stained fabric. His shoulder-length hair clings to his skull, giving the impression of sinking eyes.A man in a green sweatshirt, latex gloves, and a white dust mask that covers his mouth and nose is standing next to His bed.He is using a book as a temporary clipboard as he writes on a piece of paper. They both turn to look at the newcomers and turn their heads.“Fynn?”,wheezes his motHis.He doesn't sound rough, just weak.Fynn is taken aback when she hears, "Mom..."As if he can't believe his own eyes, he looks at his motHis.He takes a step forward, but before he can get to the bed, the doctor stops him."Don't come too close, I don't want you to get infected," His mot says."Mom, what's going on?"Fynn faces the Doctor as he turns. Why is He shackled to the bed?He was bitten by an irrational man.Since I don't recognize the symptoms, we won't risk anything. He can't attack anyone in case He gets mad."How can we assist His?"Fynn queries. The doctor goes through his hair with his hand.We obviously cannot send a sample to a laboratory, and I have no idea what He has.I would, if I could, sa
The Hisiff lets out a sigh and droops his eyes.Great.I can't wait to see those things kill me.Fynn grabs his rifle from behind him.He says, "If they live, this will kill them," and pulls a lever on the stock of his weapon to open it.Before Fynn, for dramatic effect, snaps the weapon back shut with a loud clack, the barrels lean forward to reveal two distinct cartridges.Mr. Rot says, "I sure hope you have good aim and some spare ammunition, son," twitching the fur above his eyes once more.If you have to keep that gun loaded in the house, I also hope you have the safety turned on at the very least. Before slinging it back over his back, Fynn grimaces and slowly pulls a button under the lever backwards.“Now that that’s out of the way, you two can head to the stable and get ready,” the farmer continues as he turns to Scott. He gives them a nod.Mr. Rot continues to speak as Scott and Fynn slowly exit the room.He only hears, "I'll be driving the tractor, but I'll need help with the pedals,
As it stomps out of the forest, the creature doesn't seem to care one bit about them. The long, slightly oval body is carried by four relatively short legs and is covered in knobbed bone armor.A long tail at the end of the body leads to a bone club covered in additional small knobs. It cracks the asphalt with an armored foot on the road.It moves quickly across the road to begin grazing in the meadow, leaving a portion of its body on the pavement. The whole thing is about as tall as two people and as long as two cars, including the tail.As the massive creature eats a bush whole, they all pay attention to it.God, Fynn whispers. It must weigh close to ten tons, and it looks like an Ankylosaur. He watches it close its beak over a whole field of grass with his mouth open. How could this be?The Hisiff refrains from whispering, "A what?"“A reptile. It almost resembles a dinosaur. It's unbelievable to me.The Hisiff nods his head.Let's go back and tell the otHiss, even though it seems harmless.
Scott presses his thighs against Ranger's flanks to force him to walk toward the house because he doesn't need an excuse not to go back into the cloud. As he ties the reins of the Hisiff's horse to his own and orders them to follow Ranger, Fynn lets out an angry grunt.Scott sees the tractor drive into the cloud as he looks back in time.In some way, he anticipates the fog covering them like it did His.However, nothing changes. The massive red vehicle drives calmly down the narrow road.Fynn looks at Astrid and asks, "What the hell was that?Shiva wouldn't have panicked if Ranger hadn't turned around. As He responds, "I was almost paralyzed by fear and I still think it's a terrible idea to go into that stuff," Scott feels his anger rise.He muses to himself, "Great, wHose was that temper ten minutes ago when I almost shattered my pants because of a little fog.""Groovy and Hise, I thought your size showed bravery,"What were you when you were three years old before you became an elf?He give
He takes a step forward with his feet.He wants to sprint quickly, get to the other side, and assist them with whatever has trapped them in the poisonous fog. However, the same instinct is triggered by the thought of entering the lethal mist.Fear fills His body, making it appear as though it is tied to Him.Fear of the potentially lethal darkness and its inhabitants. His feet remain stationary. He is aware that it is futile to pursue them. Before, his instinct was correct. The next location is only for the dead. The living and those who wish to join them in death.Until he screams, "Dad!?" he doesn't notice Fynn next to His.Are you ready?Anyone?!”.He speaks into the street, but no one responds. There is no sound here.Scott is aware of his goals. He is considering the same thing that He did.He doesn't know if Fynn is simply ignoring the dread that fills him or if his instinctual knowledge that the black fog must be feared is something that only otherworldly creatures like himself possess. He mi
After taking a deep breath, the Mayor surveys the assembled crowd. In any case, many of you have stated that you will leave to visit family or other relatives. While you're clearly all allowed to do however you see fit, believe it's self-destructive to travel anywHere alone, before we have close to zero insight into what slinks our properties.Even though I know that you are all eager to locate your loved ones, you won't be able to do so if you are killed, and we already know that there are a number of creatures that are capable of killing an armed man.As a result, I believe we should organize our approach to this.Since the majority of you are already from towns nearby, we will attempt to devise a strategy for safely contacting anyone nearby.I know it doesn't sound very appealing to just wait, but all I'm asking of you is that you wait until tomorrow morning.I also declare this the new town of Rot Rock because High Rock is covered in a deadly fog and we are all aware of it.Still on Range
“This is you.He informs them, "If you want something, we saved you something to eat."The two continue to follow him downstairs without repeating themselves.Scott was hoping for a warm meal, but what is left on the table is very disappointing.nothing more than cereal. He thinks, "Still, better than nothing."The Mayor interrupts Scottas, who is about to sit down, by saying, "Oh and you," "I know you elves have a ravenous appetite, but please only eat one bowl,"We must ensure that this material lasts as long as possible.Scott frowns at His, but then he nods and eats cereal and milk to the brim from His bowl. The Mayor also takes a seat and places his hands on his head.He looks tired as he watches the two people eat.Noah asks, "Is everything all right Ms. Pillinger?" because Scott is too focused on His meager meal to notice or care. Before asking, "What? ", it appears that his focus has returned.Yes, everything is in order.I'm just worn out. That's it.Noah continues to eat his cornflake
The Doctor grimaces. At first, humans were more opportunistic hunters than predators. The most important thing is that you don't have either strong jaws or claws, so you wouldn't be able to use tools like those to fight.Scott's face reveals that he doesn't really understand where he's going with that.To put it succinctly, I'm concerned that your species might be a predator created to target His sentient creatures.or rats and otters, relatively small animals that can easily hide and use tools despite lacking claws or large jaws.Scott has the impression that the Doctor punched him in the gut, "like humans or imps."He is too stunned to respond to this sudden revelation, or accusation. The Doctor quickly adds, "Not that you would ever eat someone, of course," observing His surprised expression. When you're hungry, your instincts might make you very aggressive and more likely to act irrationally and violently...”The Doctor leaves.Scott narrows his eyes and looks down at him directly. His ini
“What was that?”, the Hisiff asks.“The whistle? A simple form of communication. I don’t suppose you have any working phones or radios, do you?”The Hisiff frowns. “Everything’s bricked. Except for the really old or simple stuff like flashlights. That still works. For some reason”.The Colonel gives them a knowing nod. “We actually managed to get a generator and projector going. Seems like most of the stuff that wasn’t plugged in during the event still works too. But I guess without power on the grid that doesn’t really matter much”.They hear anotHis engine and a moment later a Unimog comes driving down the road. The small truck is painted a dark orange and has yellow warning lights on its roof. The cargo bed is taken up by a large plastic tank. The Hisiff squints at the approaching vehicle, His eyes becoming little more than slits. His expression snaps back to normal as the Colonel turns back around.“You want us to fill those canisters for you? We have an electric pump that works w
“Yeah. He said something like that but I didn’t listen to his theories about how our brains process information. The heat vision is really nice though. AnotHer thing that bugs me, is that I’m always so hungry. I mean seriously if I could I’d probably clean out the entire kitchen on my own”.“I know right… God damn it. Now you’ve made me hungry”.They both laugh.Suddenly the Hisiff’s smile fades again. “THere's one more weird thing though. Ever since my transformation I’ve been having these odd dreams. I think they’re memories… from whoever this body used to belong to”.Scott Turns His head to look at the Huff. “Me too… I think. The dreams are difficult to remember after I wake up. What do you think they mean?”.The Hisiff shakes His head. “I have no idea, but we should write them down if we get the chance. Maybe they contain useful information”.“We really have to talk to the Doctor about that when we get back”.The Hisiff just chuckles. “You’ll have to remind me”.They reach the gas
The structure is quiet. After shooting the woman, he suddenly realizes that he hasn't heard any gunfire. His concerns the silence. He is unaware of which ones they are."Did any of us pass away?"He perplexes. He takes a chance and sneaks a quick look from behind a table, where he finds the sniper gone.He is afraid to speak because his perspective is limited from his position. He waits, listening for anything that might indicate the location of an adversary. He hears someone yell, "Stop," after a while.Keep your fire lit.I want to negotiate. From within the machinery of the workshop, Lukas is calling out. From the office, the Hisiff shouts, "Then talk, dirtbag."We don't have to kill anyone else, and we don't have to waste precious ammunition on each of them. We're going to exit through the fire escape after I give you the keys to the tractor. After that, we won't see each other again.Lukas's words are followed by an extended silence.Scott is too excited by the fight's stress and numb by the
Dark gray towers appear to have been frozen in time around them. There is still an open sign hanging in the door of the bookstore to their left.Almost as though a customer could leave at any time.an alteration in the fog. Before his eyes catch the humanoid figure passing through the door, Scott almost misses the tiny movement. It appears to be made of darkness that has slightly thickened to give it a ghostly black form, despite the fact that he can barely make out it in the gray fog that is so dark. The figure disappears back into the cloud as quickly as it appeared."What did that mean?"He mumbles. To resist the urge to simply turn and run takes all of Astrid's willpower.Because His mind tries its hardest to drown Him in that unnatural fear and dread, staying focused is extremely difficult. The Hisiff whispers, "Keep going," as he looks at the spot where the shadowy figure had appeared.Scott turns away from where the figure that has just vanished with wide eyes. They go on until the Hisi
That is regrettable. The Hisiff promises, "Well come and pick you all up on our way back to the farm if we find the tractor."The man's expression turns grim and frowny. That won't be required. The way we are is fine. We're sorry, but we've recently had, let's just say, unpleasant encounters with armed strangers. The Hisiff nods.Your demise. He tells the other person, "Let's go."Scott has a crazy idea as they turn to continue their search. One more thing,” He informs the man.As he asks, "What?" he seems agitated but talks friendly.I'm on the lookout for my family. Is there anyone with the name Turm Hise?He asks. The man turns to look at his companions, but they all shrug.Probably not.Is there anyone we should tell to leave if they come by with that last name?"To the farm close to High Rock. You can't miss it.The man smiles. That will stay in my mind, and I hope you find your family soon.Scott grins and gives His horse a spur. Before returning to their own Helter, the people watch the small g
"So you just want us to go back to bed?"As if he can't believe it, Noah asks. The Hisiff gives a nod.Make an effort to get as much sleep as you can so you can be fit tomorrow. The Hisiff and Noah leave.Fynn says, "It's good to have you on the team," as Scott kisses Oskar goodnight.Scott grins.Thanks.Nevertheless, I kind of feel out of place.I mean, you are ours.a hunter using a deadeye and a tracking wolf.I, the police officer Noah, and the Sheriff.a regular girl who has never held a firearm before.I can't help but wonder why you all want my assistance so much.I'm fairly certain that His hunter would be a better option.Fynn giggles. He adds with a wink, "Plus you might not be a good shot, I've never seen you shoot so I can't tell, but I'll just assume you aren't." "You forgot to mention your badass elven body," he says. But it doesn't matter. You are brave and have endurance. The majority of those hunters are elderly and not particularly brave. We require someone who is able to ride a hor
"Do as you please, Hisiff.Simply... ensure that none of you die.He whispers, "We need you all more than the tractor," and then turns away to talk to the doctor. The Hisiff's gaze immediately focuses on Astrid. "Scott Was it?I take it you will join our new voluntary police force, so we can count on you.Scott Hesitates. He turns to look at the man lying on the floor of the living room. His body is still glowing a bright red.He would not be aware that he had passed away if he weren't lying still on the ground and the doctor had stopped trying to save him.Scott considers assisting the Hisiff. It would require him to put His brand-new life at risk once more, but for Him, doing something feels good.to not only be the ragdoll of this new world, but also to take the initiative.Naturally,” he informs him.Astrid is hit hard by the Hisiff's hand.I appreciate hearing that. You are now considered an official of the law by me.What does it feel like to wield the long sword of justice?Scott grins.I thi
“No!”,The troops chant."What he's saying... it's treason," a woman next to Novi says in a whisper."I believed so.",“We Centurions lead by example, as all good leaders do,” the man continues.I refuse to follow a leader who sits on his magically supercharged ass and rests his heavy feet on my back as we charge into battle with our legates and soldiers!Someone who can evade death with magic will not allow me to have a flaming sword.Someone who only tells His to build iron statues of himself refuses to tell my men they need to die.As they exit the square and rush down the empty street, Novi and Fohr lose the man's voice."Quite the crowd that he saw."Fohr laughs."Quite the words too," says Novi.blatantly ignoring the divine emperor. That person has a lot of balls. He is a military man.He must."Novi laughs.Right.Anyone who fights against us needs a lot of heart."He follows Fohr through the streets of Lorma until he arrives at a random house and knocks. The door is opened by a young He-
Novi enters a massive medieval city gate with Fohr by His side. They are not clad in their armor but rather in basic clothing.Fohr is dressed in a similarly bland gray tunic and coat, while Novi is wearing a brown dress with a coat. While Novi carries Hiss in a braid, his long hair is now cut almost to the scalp.Cheap wooden bows are the only weapons they have.Even though some of them have a passable arc, poor travelers prefer to use bows for self-defense.For the time being, that is what they are.Travelers who didn't have much to trade and even fewer gold.Novi tries to walk with slightly slouched shoulders. The other person said that it makes you appear a little weaker. The fact that they are waiting in a line only intensifies the coldness of the air around them.In the end, it's their turn."Come Hear.,"Says the female human guard. He is taller than Novi by more than two heads. His knees are beckoned down by the human.Novi does so reluctantly. The woman opens His eyelids unnecessarily and
