Chapter 14

A man in a green sweatshirt, latex gloves, and a white dust mask that covers his mouth and nose is standing next to His bed.He is using a book as a temporary clipboard as he writes on a piece of paper. They both turn to look at the newcomers and turn their heads.

“Fynn?”,wheezes his motHis.He doesn't sound rough, just weak.

Fynn is taken aback when she hears, "Mom..."As if he can't believe his own eyes, he looks at his motHis.He takes a step forward, but before he can get to the bed, the doctor stops him.

"Don't come too close, I don't want you to get infected," His mot says.

"Mom, what's going on?"Fynn faces the Doctor as he turns. Why is He shackled to the bed?

He was bitten by an irrational man.Since I don't recognize the symptoms, we won't risk anything. He can't attack anyone in case He gets mad.

"How can we assist His?"Fynn queries.

The doctor goes through his hair with his hand.We obviously cannot send a sample to a laboratory, and I have no idea what He has.I would, if I could, saturate His body with antibiotics and immune-boosting medications and pray that it is a bacterial infection.I regretfully lack anything here."

"Couldn't we get these from the town pharmacy?"

The physician shrugs. That's right.if you are prepared to go get it.While you're at it, you could also procure medication for anyone else in Hise who requires it.I already have a list of what we need.He shows the paper he was writing on to everyone.

What are we waiting for, then?We have no time to waste!”,Fynn screams.

“Fynn.”To properly examine him, His motHis raises His head. That fog poses a threat. Please do not enter."

When he responds, "I'm not asking you, mom," his voice is hard. We'll keep you safe.

He gives a small grin.Kindly remain safe.

"We shall."

Mr. Rot clenches his throat.Perhaps this is not the most appropriate location for such a plan.To avoid being disturbed, let's go up to my office.Come along with us, Doctor. He focuses on his wife.I assured you that Fynn was fine.I'm also correct on this.See you later, thanks."Scott is unable to read his furry expression despite his twitching face.

Fynn turns and gives his sick moth one more look. They move out of the small room and follow the farmer to a smaller room further down the hall.

The small group crammed into his office is observed by the imp as he sits on his office chair.

The Mayor closes the door behind His as the last person to enter. He looks over at the Hisiff.Now.Let's all settle down and begin from scratch. How many people are present at your residence?”

Nearly twenty.I don't want to sound rude, but how do you know that this disease is not spread by air and that everyone in Hise is infected? The Doctor is asked by the Hisiff.

The man says, "I know what you're thinking, but I'm sure it's not airborne," staring straight at His.It appears to cause an infected person to become agitated, similar to what rabies does to animals. This leads us to believe that saliva and possibly other bodily fluids carry the virus. It would have evolved to cause coughing in order to spread the disease as an aerosol if it were in the air.

The Mayor clears His throat before the Hisiff can continue.Let us now talk about removing the fog and obtaining the medication necessary to treat His and several of His people.

"I concur.We're wasting precious time.Adds Fynn.

The Mayor's blatant attempt to veer off topic is noticed.Without a laboratory or at least a few days to see if anyone else becomes ill, the rest of the group doesn't think a regular doctor can tell if a never-before-seen disease is airborne or not. They all keep their doubts to themselves because, if what they are discussing is a deadly, possibly magical disease that spreads through the air, they are screwed anyway.

The elf from the previous night had been quiet up until this point, but he now takes a quick step past Astrid.Hold on a second!I was willing to go with you guys to find these people here, but I won't enter a magical fog that makes your skin burn and makes your mind fog.I'm returning to the house, and my family is leaving.

Following is a brief moment of silence.Scott anticipates the Hisiff to speak, but all he is doing is staring at the Mayor.

Mister Rot brings the conversation back to the task at hand, "I'm sorry to hear that," as no one says anything.Naturally, I cannot compel anyone to assist us.Let's get back to the point now.Hisiff.You had previously stated that you were to procure food and other supplies for Him.That is not an issue. We can easily get food from our trees and fields, but we can't make pills, and my wife isn't the only one who needs something. The individuals in Hise require a list of medications from Doctor Moore.

So, we're supposed to pillage the neighborhood pharmacy?Sounds simple enough, " says Fynn.

His fatty head nods.Exactly.”

The Hisiff inquires, "What about the people at my house?" "As you just said, we came Hise to get supplies and find help from the authorities," he responds.

The Farmer appears eager to respond. But the Mayor laughs hollowly before he can say anything.Well, what is left of city hall is hardly an authority.Still.But we do have a plan, so they should probably join us, Hise.We will strengthen this location and hopefully establish something resembling a safe zone.

Noah raises an eye to His.So we go back and tell the other to come with us?”

The Mayor wags his head and says, "No.We need your help to get these people their medications.I'll send someone to the Hisiff's house to retrieve the otHiss.

Noah appears to be frowning because the fur around his mouth twitches a little.Fynn says, "Agreed," before he can say anything. There is no time to waste.

Lukas comes in and says, "Wait just one second."They all turn to look at him.I want to find my son.Since we are from another town, how will we get in touch with them?

The Mayor gives a nod. That's right. We'll use our vehicles to reach out to His towns and look for anyone who has gone missing as soon as we have ensured that no one has died as a result of not receiving their daily insulin dose or something else.

Lukas gives a nod, appearing to be satisfied with the response.

The Hisiff takes a long, deep breath.Okay, now what should we do?

This time, the farmer responds, "We're going to drive into town, grab what we need, and get out as quickly as possible. My old tractor is still working."However, the elderly woman challenges my complete faith. To ensure that our path is clear, I want a group to ride ahead on horses. And to quickly return in the event that the elderly woman decides it's time to give up.Which of you can ride a horse?”

Scott slowly raises His hand.I used to ride horses, but two years ago I stopped.”

The farmer's fur moves in the same twitchy way Noah's did just now around his mouth.superior to nothing. Thus, you and my son are ours. However, I'd prefer there to be three of you.Can another person ride a horse?”

The Hisiff rubs his chin with his hand as if he were stroking a fake beard.I'm not very good, but I know the fundamentals. Before continuing, he states, "But I think two scouts are enough."

The Farmer raises an eyebrow in response.Nonsense.Take a ride with them and keep my son out of trouble.

He gets a glare from Fynn for the last part.

The Hisiff also raises an eyebrow.Fine.”,"I'll ride with them," he declares.

Good, the farmer nods.You.”He makes a point of Scott and his son.Prepare the horses. When we finish Hise, the Hisiff will join you.

Scott is getting ready to go.Before Noah can open the door, he says, "Wait."He says, "Before they leave, I want to ask you something," and he turns to Mister Rot.You stated earlier that you could not permit Oni to eat those who came to you. What is oni?a creature of some kind?

The Mayor responds, "We don't know."They all turn to face His direction. After a brief pause, he looks back at them and says, "Last night, something attacked us while we were on our way Hise."It appeared as though phantoms were targeting us.There was a nighttime cackling, and then something threw one of us to the ground. The boy was attacked in the neck by a black form. Then even more appeared all around him.His parents attempted to assist, but until we reached this farm, everyone fled. They were terrifying, regardless of what these creatures were.

The Hisiff snorts as the Mayor leaves.I knew from the beginning that your speeches about solidarity were just talk. When all is said and done, you run away."

As He grinds his teeth, the Mayor's face turns even more red.Yeah? What was my responsibility?Get ripped to shreds by monsters that appear out of nowhere?

"You ought to have saved them or perished with them," I said.

The woman tries to speak to Him, but instead just looks into the Hisiff's yellow eyes.

Lukas interrupts the silence with, "Okay... I don't think we can expect that of anyone," as the others stare at the two of them.Nevertheless, Ms. Mayor, what did you mean by "materialized?"

"I'm unsure. They appeared as a speck of rainbow-colored light as they bit into him.To get a good look, we were all too busy running away.
