Bigger Ego

“Good morning." She had said, I turned to her, she was already dressed and she was about to leave before I woke up.

" Were you planning on leaving before I woke up?.“

I watched her laugh.

She was really beautiful.

" Come here.“ I told her.

" I'm already dressed Dee, yes, I was about to leave but I wrote my number on the paper over there.“ She said pointing to the table.

" What did you call me?."

“Dee?."

“Yes, like it.“

“Ohh, that's good."

“What if I didn't see the number, Melissa, how would I have reached you."

“I dunno." She said laughing. “But, surely you would have seen it, I mean it's just there."

“Do you know what I would have done if I woke up and found out that you left?."

“No, what would you have done."

“I would raid this hotel and find out who Adrian is and I'm going to steal you if I find you with him, if I don't find you with him, I would threaten him to give me your contact, then I would reach you."

She laughed very hard at what I had said.

" What are the chances you would find Adrian, this place is grand.“

" Don't underestimate me baby.“

"I've been thinking, It's actually about Adrian, I checked my phone and it was tons of his calls that I missed.“

“What if I write you a check, any amount you want, for you to stay with me, for just a day."

" Any amount?.“

" Just call the figure.“

I rubbed my hand up and down her back, her skin was soft like a baby's skin.

“Do you have a brother?." I asked her.

“Nope, but I have a sister, I don't know what having a brother feels like, what about you?."

" Only child, but, I just found out that my dad had an affair and I have an actual brother.“

“That's kind of weird isn't it."

“Yes."

“Is that why you came here?."

“Yes, to slow down my thoughts."

“How do you feel about him?."

“Who, my brother?."

“Yes."

“I mean, I don't feel anything except for excitement, I finally have a brother, you know, if he's going to be cool then, I'm going to be cool, it's my father I'm angry at, and also my mum, they lied to me, told me I was the only child."

“Maybe they had their reasons."

“Yes they had their reasons and it was selfish, I grew up in a lonely beach house in Florida, every morning, when I woke up, I would look outside my window and see the ocean, for years, I watched the ocean, relentlessly.“

" It's a funny coincidence that you have beautiful ocean eyes.“

" Thank you.“

" So, do you work or something.“

" Yeah, I'm the CEO of Swiss company.“

" Oh…you're the famous Mr Anderson, I know you, I fucking know you, jeez, your name is on the lips of every girl in the city."

" They know me but I don't know them, trust me.“

She raised a browed and it cracked something in me, for a long while I laughed and it was one of the realest laughs in my whole life.

“Have you ever fallen in love before?." She asked, I stopped to watch her eyes, it was a genuine question.

“It's hard to know if they're faking it or it's real.“

" Yes, it's hard, but sometimes, even if it's real, it's hard to keep the relationship going.“

" Oh, no, if I know that I love a woman, I'll chase her to the moon and back, I'll give her the stars if she asks.“

" Now, you sound like someone who really grew up rich, someone that has always gotten what he wanted, so, now he knows what he wants and he'll give anything to have it.“

“I sense intelligence behind those eyes." I told her and she laughed, her cheerful nature was contagious.

I had forgotten why I came to the hotel, I had forgotten that I was angry at my parents, I had forgotten all my troubles.

“I really like being with you." I told her.

“Me too."

She held my stare, I stretched my hand to cup her face, she was the loveliest thing I had ever layed my eyes on.

“You know something, you're actually really good looking, you look like you were forged from a blueprint of an animation." She told me and I laughed.

“One question." She said.

“Okay, go on."

“Have you ever been stalked before?."

“Yes, multiple times."

“By ladies?."

“Yes."

“What did they want?."

“Money, fame, me…they wanted everything that was material, you know something?."

“No, what?."

“I might actually not get married.“

" Why?.“

" I mean, what are the chances I'll find true love, when there's a myriad of gold diggers after me, imagine I pick one, marriage is sacred for me, I can't be bonded with someone I'm not in love with.“

She smiled a little and then her phone rang.

“One minute.“ She told me.

I climbed down from the bed and I wore my shorts, I was walking towards the closet when I heard her say. “Adrian, I'm actually sorry for not showing up—yes— I know I said I was at the hotel already—what do you even mean by that?.“

“Adrian?." I turned around and I took the phone from her.

“Darwin, please just pass the phone."

“No."

“Please."

“I said no, Melissa, I'm not giving you the phone."

“At least end the call."

I could almost hear Adrian's microphonic voice asking questions.

“Adrian, seriously?." I asked her.

“You're probably angry at me, I just wanted him to know that I'm safe."

I didn't want to look at her.

She could go back to her Adrian.

“Dee?."

" Melissa, you're right, he could have been looking for you yesterday, I actually just lost myself when I saw you, it's unlike me to steal someone else's girl.“

" I'm not Adrian's girl.“

" Originally, you were here to see him and you just knocked on the wrong door.“

She was silent.

" You want me to go back to Adrian?.“ She asked.

Then I was silent.

" Great.“ She said and I watched her dress, I didn't utter s single word, I was so quiet I cuould have been mistaken as a piece of furniture.

" Good bye.“ She said and she walked out.

I looked around the room, it felt so empty.
