Change happens too fast

My dad was a calm and intelligent man, so wise that you could almost see the intelligence behind his eyes, something I had gotten from him, something I am very grateful for.

But, staring at him now, the intelligence behind his eyes had disappeared and it was replaced with total confusion.

“We're good, everything's good." He said wiping his sweaty forehead.

It was obvious that things weren't good, I wasn't stupid, it made me angry to know that they were lying to me, his demeanor confirmed that, truly, something was going on between them, and it wasn't shallow.

“I could as well tell you now." He said after a short while.

"Tell me what?.“ I asked him.

“ What is happening to our family, son."

" What is happening to our family?.“

" It was something I did many years ago.“

" Okay…tell me."

“Years ago, a few months before you were born into our family, we were living in New York and your mum was about to have you. “ He said and paused, I watched him look through the window before he turned back to me.

“There was a woman then, it's safe to say that she was beautiful, she was very beautiful and beguiling, she had these beautiful eyes, dark hair, nice body, she had everything.“ He stopped again to take in the emotions on my face, there was none.

" Her name was Alice and at that time, she served as a waitress in a diner I used to go to with some friends of mine…she was kind and polite and she didn't accept the tips I gave her, she was one of the only few people that ever rejected my help and it made something in me stir, it made me…it made me want her.“. He was shedding a light upon a whole lot of things, in my mind, ran thoughts that were livid and wild.

“So, one day, I asked that she go with me on a date."

" But, you were married and was expecting a child, wasn't that enough reason to stay faithful, I can't imagine you're my dad.“

" Son, I see myself in you all the time, in the matters of business, intelligence, even the way you handle women, who did you think you get the one night fling thing fro.“

" No…" I had to say no, even if it was true.

“You can deny it all you want, but, I have to tell you what happened some years ago and how's it's come back to haunt me, after I had repented. Darwin, I love your mother, I truly do, what happened years ago was a mistake."

" Tell me what you did, you don't have to preach love.“

" She agreed to go on a date with me and then we went on frequent dates and one day, we decided to go to a bar, I remember drinking lots of alcohol, I didn't know what had come over me, but I woke up the next morning at Alice's house, to be more specific, I woke up in her bed, and we were both lying naked, I didn't reacall the scene from the last night, all I remembered was drinking, when she woke up, she acted as if she too didn't know what she was doing, later, she had informed me, that she was pregnant for my child, I told your mum, I had to tell her, it couldn't wait another day, I told her and we had serious issues, we were at the brink of getting divorced and the only option your mum had given me, was to leave Alice and the child. “

“What do you mean by leave Alice and the child?."

“She said, if I payed attention to them, she would divorce me and leave with you, you were born at that time, so, we went up to Florida, things went smoothly after that, we forgot about everything that happened between us, it was as if nothing ever happened, for twenty four years, the name Alice never came up and now…now it came up, as if she just jumped into life from no where.“

" I was about to tell you that the truth always comes back, but, I think you already understand the concept, there's no best teacher than experience.“

" I know you're angry at me.“

" Of course I am, I'm fucking angry at you dad, I'm angry at you for doing everything you did, from hitting on the waitress to leaving her, even after she had a child for you.“

" Sure, you have every right to be angry bit you and your mum were more important to me than Alice, Alice was just a big mistake.“

" How did you guys get back together?.“

" We didn't get back together, she found me.“

" Whatever…"

“She has a son, his name is Hensley."

I had never met this Hensley, but, I felt strong emotions about him, emotions that weren't straight, my world was falling apart, and earlier this morning, I was so happy to meet my lovely parents, my flawless parents.

" She wants him to be part of the family, she wants him to success you, she wants the both of you to run the company together.“

I was quiet, in a very short moment, my view of the world changed, in just a short while, maybe life isn't so much fun, I wasn't the only heir anymore. There was another son.

" Fuck…" I turned my face from his, I could murder him if I had the chance.

“And…we're all meeting next week, by Saturday, that's in a week's time, you would be there wouldn't you?.“

" I hate you and I never thought I would say this to you before, I never thought that a day would come where I would stop seeing a shinning armour around you, but, now the day has come and I'm fucking hoping that this is a dream that I'll wake out of in a while, bye dad.“

I parked my car and I climbed down from it I went straight into the house.
