My own company

Immediately they left, I stood up to leave.

“Darwin." I heard my dad call me.

I turned to him.

“Yeah?."

“You're just going to leave like that?."

“Yes, when all your lawyers are done, call me, I might come and watch the nonsense, but right now, I'm just going to leave."

“You can't just leave like that." He said.

“Watch me." I told him and I left.

When I got to the office on Monday's morning, I didn't see my assistant, Tracey, at the desk. So I decided to call her.

She told me that she was sick and she wouldn't be available until a week later.

Mark had come to my office in the afternoon.

“Good day." He said when he entered.

“Yeah?."

“I came to inform you, that the next meeting would be on Thursday, this week."

“Okay, thank you."

“You still wouldn't talk to me, or take your mum's call or your dad's?."

I stared at him for some time and I dropped my eyes back to my laptop.

“It's fine, but, I'm hoping that you'll wake up and see that we tried to help you, please, remember to be there on Thursday."

Office work was beginning to bore me, if Hensley comes to the office, the board of directors would actually want to be in his favour due to pity, we would have to split up the company into two halves for the two bosses.

This gave me a weird feeling.

I didn't like to share anything with a anybody, so I came up with a plan.

What if I built my own company, a company that the board of directors was actually me, myself and I.

I couldn't wait to get things done.

I thought of who to call, someone that can get the job done very fast.

I picked up my phone and I dialled his number, Ken, as long as I knew a company was concerned, Ken was a professional, for a little while we talked about my plan of building a company and we decided to meet in person tomorrow.

I left the office early and while I was going down, I looked around to see if I could spot Lisandré, but she was no where to be seen, so I left, I would have loved to take her on that trip to the museum, I wouldn't call it a date.

I drove to El'jefe and I had a couple of shots to drink before I went in search for a lady to keep me company.

And then, as if by miraculous intervention, I saw her, the golden locks.

I wondered whether or not I should approach her. She had a man, I saw her talk to him the other day, who was I kidding, she probably wouldn't be my type of person.

I chose to sit where I was, but, I would watch her, seeing her gave me a feeling of fulfilment, I didn't know why.

I was scrolling through my phone when I heard someone call me.

“Hey, beautiful." She had said, it was her, golden locks.

" That's my line.“ I told her smiling a bit.

" Are you here with someone?.“ She asked me.

" No, not tonight.“

" Me too.“

" Would you mind if I buy you a drink?.“ I asked her.

" Not at all.“

We sat together in the same booth, I could watch her closely, see every detail of her face.

“What's your name?." I asked her.

“Karen, what's yours?."

“Darwin."

“Old English, I like that."

“I was named after my great grandfather."

" You look like you're not from around here.“

" Everybody says that, I live here in Detroit.“

" Where In Detroit?.“

" Up the hills.“

" Ohhh.“

" Yeah.“

" That's really nice.“

" It's also very boring.“

" What do you mean, I would kill to have a house there, grandeur, tranquility, and sophistication.“

“All my life, I've always looked out the window to see landscape, or the top of other people's houses, mostly inanimate objects and not people."

" Oh, now I understand what you mean.“

"And also at work, I stay at the top floor of a fourteen story building. Always looking down, never looking up.“

“Sorry about that."

“Tell me something."

“Okay."

“Are you really a sex worker?."

“No, I'm not, I was just joking the other day."

I laughed a little and I asked her.

“Karen?."

“Yeah?."

“Would you like to see my house?."

I drove us home, she had gasped when she saw my house.

And Karen, was lovely when I say lovely I really mean it.

She was great, I wouldn't say she was better than the girls I've had before, but, I would say that she was great, she had nice legs that I loved to hold and all, it was sad that she was leaving in the morning.

It would be nice if I had a woman to go home to, like permanently, I didn't like it when they came and left, come and go, and then leave my to feed on silence.

“The night was lovely." Karen whispered to me, it's was almost twelve am.

“Yes, it was, thank you." I told her.

But she didn't reply, she was already asleep.

Eventually, I slept off.

I was running, fast. I could hear my breathing, I could hear the foot steps behind me, someone was chasing me, I was running as fast as I could, then I saw the door, the same door, that was lit.

If only I could get there, if only I could get there but the door kept stretching, as if it was running from me as I was running to it.

“Stop running." The person shouted “I would catch up to you, anyways, it's better you stop running."

The voice was loud, intimidating, almost taunting.

I turned to see who it was that was chasing me.

I saw him, it was him, my eyes grew wild in bewilderment. It was Hensley.

“You can't run from me." He shouted then I watched him hold onto my arm and then he got me.

I tore out from the sleep, I sat up and I breathed heavily.

“It's alright, you're fine." It took me seconds to remember that Karen was there, she was there beside me. “Was it a nightmare?." She asked me.

“Unfortunately, yes."
