Chapter 1

The grand hall was abuzz with students as they carried trays and lines up to be served their lunch. The silver doors opened up and the noisy hall quietened immediately, so quiet one could hear a pin drop.

“That's the infamous talentless prince.” someone whispered.

“A bastard prince. his whore of a mother was a maid, luckily she died in an accident before her common blood could taint the castle anymore than she already had when she gave birth to that useless son of hers.” another chipped in.

“shh! He might hear you.” the first boy whispered, it wasn't that he was scared of the so-called talentless prince, no, he simply sought to avoid trouble.

“I don't care. What can a common bastard with no talent do to a nobleman like me? I am already at the peak of rei-rank.” the second boy said as he watched the youth in question stroll towards the vending machine with an expressionless face. He was tall, lanky, a plain face and black curly hair, his eyes seemed to be devoid of life. At one glance one could see he had gone through a lot of depressing moments, yet he still put up a strong front as he walked to a secluded area in the cafeteria to eat his lunch, he dared not stand in line in front of the chef with those arrogant scions as he knew it will only yield nothing but trouble, which is one thing he's been avoiding ever since his mother died, yet trouble always seems to find him.

“Hello bastard.” a white haired youth with blue eyes said as he took a seat in front of the black haired boy who seemed to ignore his existence and kept munching the doughnut he bought from the vending machine.

“You dare ignore me!?” snarled the white haired youth as he slapped away the doughnut from his hands. The hall became eerily silent as all students turned towards them to enjoy whatever show that was about to unfold.

The black haired boy finally looked up and found the white haired youth grinning, and standing behind the latter were two other boys, his cronies no doubt.

“My name is Maximus, not bastard.” he said, his face still expressionless.

“If I said you're a bastard, then that's what you are.” the white haired youth smiled evilly.

“This here is Ronald Orlan, first grandson of grandmaster Orlan of the Orlan family, I'm also a rei-ranker wind ability user. So when I say you're a bastard, then you should gladly accept it as that's what you most certainly are.” he said almost screaming. Maximus stared at him for a few seconds before standing.

“You can have the table.” he turned around to walk away, only to be propelled forward by a strong wind, slamming him against the wall.

“The next time you ignore, I will put you in a world of pain, you get that Bastard?” Ronald laughed as he walked away with his cronies while the rest of the students acted as if nothing happened, no one went up to aid the still fallen student. Such a cruel world.

Maximus slowly stood up despite pain raking all over his body. He wiped the blood seeping from his broken lip as he was slammed face first at the wall.

He walked away, heading for the vending machine again, bought another doughnut and a can of soda, then he exited the cafeteria. He did his best to hold back the tears threatening to flow from his eyes, his reason was simple, he won't give them the satisfaction of hurting him. He moment he got to an empty classroom, threw the donut at the wall in front of him. He knew he couldn't take out his anger on his oppressors, but he had to release the pent up anger anyway.

“Why was I born? To suffer? To be without talent? To be humiliated? Why did you create me if only to abandon me?” he clenched his fists as he gritted his teeth till he felt a metallic taste in his mouth. This was not just the rule of the Kera Kingdom, but of the entire world. In this world the strong trampled upon the weak, the strong make the rules and the weak obediently follow them.

His mother was a commoner, a weakling without affinity to any element, which he realized that was why he had no affinity as well.

Ever since his father found out he had no affinity with any element, he was thus discarded as a ragdoll, tossed aside with his mother who was of common blood, but that did not stop his mother from showering him with love and being his shield when Daniel and his mother sought to cause him trouble. There were three kinds of people in this world; The powerful who comprised of those with uncanny ability and the royals, the nobles who were mostly the popular and affluent people in the kingdom, then you have the commoners who make up the major citizens of the kingdom, sadly he now belonged to the third group. His father remarried from the Furnia family, a family known for their uncanny fire ability, the union brought forth Daniel, he inherited the fire ability from his mother and the earth ability from his father, making him a dual ability user, the first dual ability user in all of Kera kingdom. His father praises him as a bona fide genius, and thus no matter the evil Daniel committed against Maximus, Akkris Gayle, Maximus' father never bat an eyelid. A year ago, Maximus' mother was involved in a terrible accident as her car summersaulted due to brake failure. Maximus'life went from bad to worse from that moment on. Although his father had enrolled him here at Silverado Academy, a school for the gifted as the commoners call it, Maximus knew his father never cared for him and only did this small favor because it was his dying mother's wish for his father to enroll him into Silverado Academy, his father grunted in response, seeming unaffected by the death of his mother. This particular memory made Maximus ball up his fist.

“I will grow above the nobles. I will grow above the royals. I will become the most powerful man in all of Kera.”
