Sam couldn’t believe his eyes, the sound of the gunshot and Charity’s yell were all mixed up; Jonathan just fired the shot on Charity, and he could see blood slowly dripping to the ground. Sam and Emily stared at each other as he removed the cell phone from his ear. “What did it say?” Emily asked suspiciously, forgetting the first question she just asked. The way Sam's expression was after the call made her curious as to what he just heard on the phone. “I don’t know who this is, but the person wants me to come see Charity in the hospital; and it seems to be urgent. I think it’s definitely someone from the hospital,” Sam had a worried look on his face; why would Charity want to see him immediately when she was taken to the hospital. “What’s going on doc?” Sam asked as soon as they walked into the ICU, he saw Charity laying on a bed with all the different life support machines beeping while some read her heart rate. “Thought you’d never ask, Mr. Sam, but I’m sure it’d be best if you heard directly from her,” the doctor answered, walking straight to the bed, he was just some inches away when the life machine made a loud sound. The sound was loud and continued, and only the doctor understood it, he ran the rest of the inches to the bed and held Charity, trying to take several medical measures to keep her stable but sadly he was too late. Clinton was also stunned at Sam’s sudden entrance, and he had never seen Sam so angry before, his eyes were filled with tears that wouldn’t fall off. When the person knocking saw that no one was coming to open the door, she slowly opened it by herself, popping her head inside the room first; when she saw Sam standing next to Ethan and a woman close to the bed, she knew she was in the right place. This was prolly the second time she was coming to Ethan’s mansion and the first time to enter his bedroom. Ethan and Clinton were surprised to see her, Ariana had no idea who she was; Sam was expecting her. He had left the Cadillac and sent one of his guards down there to bring her to the mansion, he just needed a little private time and he got that inside the taxi. Ariana had definitely heard of her, maybe seen her once or twice but she didn’t really care about secretaries or receptionists whenever she visited her dad’s company in the past. No one needed to tell her that Emily was way older than Sam, even though she was a beautiful redhead, she was a woman so she knew. Emily glanced at Ariana’s reaction and sighed, burying her face in Sam’s shoulder. She was so embarrassed by all these, it was as if they were looking at an abomination; something that wasn’t supposed to happen. “We’re leaving, if this is how you’d welcome my fiancée, then maybe I shouldn’t have brought her here at all,” Sam frowned and held Emily by her wrist, ready to pull her with him as he walked. “But you will, one day; if you really wish to get married to her,” Clinton chipped in, disallowing Sam from taking his first step towards the door. “I’m so sorry about this, Sam. “I couldn’t ask him directly, cause I thought it might ruin the moment. But, your Dad spoke like he was going to die very soon, why’s that?” Emily’s worry was written all over her face. However, anybody would have observed it, Sam thought it was obvious but it seems Emily just wanted to hear it from him. “Yes, he is going to die soon,” Sam resumed looking out the window, feeling his heart squeeze as he spoke the words. He was really going to miss his dad, but he was always trying not to think about it and the situations he had been through the past few weeks have helped keep the thought out of his mind, but now that Emily had brought it back; it was so heart wrecking. Sam stood immediately and caught Emily as she fell, preventing her from hitting her head on the hard floor. She landed on his arms, unconscious; Sam was instantly dumbfounded, she didn’t show any sign of weakness or distress and just in the blink of an eye, she was lying in his arms unconscious. “Guards!!!” Sam yelled, his voice loud but shaky and his expression covered in despair and confusion. What could be happening? Just two weeks of peace and now another issue had come up, and it looked as if it was life threatening. It would be so heartbreaking if the woman he was trying all his life to protect died beside him without anybody’s intervention. The guards rushed to where Sam was and helped him carry Emily, “Quickly, to the car, we need to get to the hospital as fast as we can, all of the guards follows me except my butler and one house security guard,” Sam yelled, following behind the men that carried Emily, while the others rushed to fulfill his instructions. “Why always me!”
