THE RESUSCITATED SON-IN-LAW CHAPTER 22
Heart Bleeding. Mind Aching. Soul Shattering. These were all familiar experiences for Charles ever since he married Sofia, to the point even his dreams were like nightmares. Like most days, Charles found himself waking up wheezing and gasping today, not because he had a nightmare this time but because he had become a nightmare himself. Charles looked around to realize he was in his bed. He didn’t have any blood on his hands, or his body. What happened to Narika? The last thing he remembered was he went for a bite, and then he couldn’t remember what happened afterward. “I didn’t kill her, did I?” he rushed out to the shared balcony. The glass door was locked. The shoot finished for the day, but Charles felt more drained than the rest because he had taken a lot of takes, even though he only needed to say five lines, and they weren’t even all emotional like with Sofia’s dialogues. Nevertheless, one of the lines Sofia told her ex-boyfriend in the movie stuck in Charles’ mind: Compared to Charles, you’re like the shit stuck at the bottom of my shoe. In the movie, Sofia’s boyfriend’s name was also coincidentally Charles, or maybe she told the director to give that name to the character on purpose. Nevertheless, her statement made Charles feel bittersweet. If only she had valued him, her real husband, even a hundredth of the amount she valued the character Charles, he wouldn’t be feeling all alone right now, not at all thinking about his future or having a family for himself. Once they returned to the five-star hotel, the crew asked if the young man in maroon shirt had come back, and he hadn’t, so they thought he might have just been bluffing.

Bram Bones was notorious for robbing casinos and killing cops. Just last night, he had shot an officer in the head for stopping the car and trying to search for possible narcotics. He had this shooting habit since he was young. Back when in school, he shot his classmate for refusing to accept his love and sang a break up song at her dead body. Because he had done a lot of terrible things before even growing a mustache, his father, the ruler of Black Feathers, a mafia gang that ruled the underground affairs in multiple countries, kept moving Bram across borders every year. Bram didn’t have a gun when Charles defeated his bodyguards. Otherwise, he would have emptied the magazine on Charles. Just as Charles stood up from the couch, a grenade blasted through his room’s door, almost giving him a heart attack. Soon, a couple of men wielding machine guns rushed into the room. “Whoever is in here, raise your fucking hands up where we can see, or we’re going to put our pretty fucking bullets in your ugly face!” the men warned as they looked for souls, and they noticed a man standing with his hands raised high. “Cream-colored suit and blonde hair. He matches the description.” One of them immediately turned and shot the second guy in the head and laughed, “I’ll get the whole reward for bringing you to Boss Bram!” He marched over to Charles, viciously swiped the gun and struck the back of Charles’ head, thinking it would knock him out of his senses. Charles, however, didn’t even flinch. He slowly turned his head, revealing his scary-long fangs and burning red-hot coals that were his pupils. By the time the police reached the rooftop, they found not a single person standing there. And the only person they found alive was Sofia, whose wound was already dressed before they got there. It wasn’t Charles who did it as he was fighting himself at some place else until dawn. Moreover, the police couldn’t find a single footage of the cameras anywhere in the hotel. Someone had clearly been to the security room and destroyed the video footage, so the police felt at a loss because they had no clue what exactly happened on the rooftop. Over 430 people staying at the hotel died that night. Everyone from the film crew except Reena, Sofia, Narika, Selena and her bodyguards died. Roger had managed to hide in a bathroom for the entire night, so he also managed to survive. It was obvious that Bram Bones had attacked the hotel, but since there was no video footage, the news channel telecasted that it was a terrorist attack. The reason was simple. Why do you go out with someone else’s wife?” Carlos posed this question the very same day he had seen Andres and Sofia enter the mansion, holding each other’s hands. Of course, he didn’t ask this question when Sofia was around, but he never expected Andres would react the way he did. “Who are you calling shameless?” Andres slapped Carlos so hard, he bled from his ear. Carlos wasn’t a coward, but he was just left in shock by the way Andres reacted. Sofia was asking a surgeon on mobile if covering up her scar was possible, and the surgeon said yes, so she felt greatly relieved. Only after ending the call, she noticed that her father was in the room. “Dad! When did you get here?” “Just now…” he sat down on the bed. “Let me see the wound.” She raised her shirt a little and showed the wounded spot, which was no longer bandaged. “I was once shot in an alley,” Gregory said, startling her. “You were what?” “Even your mother doesn’t know of it because it didn’t leave any scar, so don’t stress over your wound too much.” “M-Mm.” Gregory touched her cheek. “I’m glad you’re safe, but don’t let this incident keep you down for weeks.” “I’m planning to attend shooting for a new film with a simple role, dad, but I was wondering how the public will think. It’d be good if I ask how her health is and if she’s recovering well, but Sofia’s brain doesn’t work like a normal woman’s.
