Xin was yawning, but his long yawn was disturbed when a mosquito flew into his nose and made him sneeze and cough at the same time. Carlos had ended up sleeping on the edge of the rooftop. When he woke up, he thought he was really lucky to have not fallen down, but then he realized that his arm was actually tied to an iron rod using a white scarf. “Who did this?” He found it quite shocking. How was someone able to tie a scarf to his arm and not wake him out of his sleep? It greatly worried him because he was slipping into too deep of a sleep that he wasn’t able to wake up when it was needed. The same thing happened back in the hotel when he was in Sofia’s room. Moreover, how did this person even get onto the rooftop? He untied the scarf and sniffed it. There were too many vague scents on the scarf, but the smell of the dye was dominating everything else. It was probably picked up from a store, he thought. He walked around the edge of the rooftop, looking for signs of anybody climbing onto it, but he found none. The noises of the buses, the trains, the cars, and the blazing artificial lights of the traffic prevailed through the city streets, but the sky hundreds of meters above still belonged to the birds of prey during these busy nights. There was this peculiar quietness in the sky as Charles flew through the darkness, almost feeling what the hunters of night would feel. Thanks to the pollution, the air wasn’t fresh or crisp like the wind from Spring, but more than the noises of the traffic below, he could better hear the songs the birds made with their vocals and wings. The landscapes were definitely bright below, but the joy of flying in the sable sky only lit by the moon and the stars was indescribable. It was a thousand times better than walking on a footpath. After all, he wouldn’t be knowing the darkness in a visceral way and experience a much broader world by walking on the street like any other human. The sky offered him a wholly different view. The next evening. “I’m sorry, Mr. Evastar,” Langdon, the governor, was speaking on a private video call. “I assure you this won’t repeat again.” “It better not, or you will never be able to recover your lost reputation, Mr. Campbell,” the guy on the screen spoke. He was in a spa, being massaged by four nude women. “It won’t end just with that, though, if that video gets leaked outside, I’m afraid. That’s just how the underworld operates.” “I’ll look into it and make sure to send him to his grave soon.” The call ended. Langdon frowned and looked at the unclear video footage recorded at the port. He could see a masked man easily killing off almost 40 men all by himself. “Where the fuck did this monster come from? What kind of tech is he using to be able to jump so high?” the footage didn’t show Charles flying, so Langdon thought he just jumped high. “I hope it’s just some freak who watched too many superhero movies. Carlos had revealed himself to Victoria because he wanted her to know that he was going to make her life difficult. However, it was his life that turned for the worse, big-time. The very next day, police barged into the SGNG store. Not only did they find underage kids Bob and Charlie working, they broke their way through to the top floor and supposedly found drugs in the small room. While Bob and Charlie were sent to an orphanage, Thomas was sentenced to six months of jail time. And a few more cases were filed against Thomas. A neighbor from where Thomas used to live came forward and claimed that he had be sexually assaulting her since 12 years, and that he also extorted over 15,000 dollars from her. The SGNG store was completely closed off indefinitely, and the police were searching for the owner Carlos, the real culprit. Many cases were filed against him. Charles spent a few hours with Bob and Charlie, eating with them and buying them things. He parted with them in the evening.As Charles was walking back home, he thought back about his life. Many years ago, when he was very young, he was alone. They managed to take more than a hundred dollars from the beggar, but they still wanted more, and they began to rip his clothes, trying to see if he was hiding the money elsewhere.The beggar was old and weak, so he couldn’t fight back against the two youngsters.Charles approached from behind and grabbed their necks.
