CHAPTER FOUR (STRANDED)

"Drive to the nearest hospital," Bryan said as the taxi driver moved the car. His hands still hurting from the punch he connected to the fat guy's face. It was just the pain, Bryan didn't feel remorseful about what happened. After all, he was trying to save an accident victim - and a random guy showed up from nowhere, trying to stop him.

Bryan's delivery uniform was decked with blood as the girl curled up close to his chest - placing her bleeding head on it. Bryan watched as her hair fluttered across his chest - her eyes were shut, and the entire backseat reeked of alcohol.

"....you're gonna help me?," She said, chafing her hands across Bryan's chest - drawing visible lines on his shirt - with her blood as the ink.

Bryan's throat quaked with nausea - because of his apathy for blood. Yet, he couldn't push the drunk lady away. He had to deal with the whole situation.

"...yes, I'm gonna help you," Bryan said, his eyes locked on the road, the car zoomed down the block.

The taxi came to a halt after a few minutes. "That's a clinic," the taxi driver said, pointing to a building a few miles away.

Bryan traced the beeline with his weary eyes, and he nodded in approval. He stretched a few dollar notes to the driver and he lifted the drunk girl off his chest. But she was already fast asleep. He alighted from the car first and he dragged her out of it too - carefully so she wouldn't hurt her already bleeding head.

The taxi drove away, leaving Bryan and the drunk girl to the stillness of the aura as they stood by the roadside adjacent to a clinic. Bryan carried her on his arm and sauntered into the clinic.

It is been a chaotic night.

For a moment Bryan was beginning to get tired of the whole frenzy situation - happening on his birthday. He became a billionaire on his birthday and he also escaped being a victim of a hit and run. And the fact he saved the driver had his heart thumping nervously.

Three female nurses sped towards Bryan they took the drunk girl off his grip. "Oh... She's bleeding!" one of them exclaimed as they took her into a room.

Bryan was about to go in with them, when one of the nurses stopped him, raising her finger. "You will have to wait here sir," she said.

Bryan tugged a breath and stepped out of the doorway - allowing the nurse to shut the door.

He walked back and forth in the waiting area. Now and then, his eyes settled on the entrance and back to the long hallway. A few minutes later, one of the nurses sped out of the room - heading to another different room. Bryan stopped her whilst she was about to go into the room again

"...hey, how's she doing?" He said, with a flitting gaze.

"She will be fine. Please calm down" the nurse said. She didn't wait to hear Bryan's reply before shutting the door over his face.

Those words sounded like the relief Bryan needed to calm his nerves and sit down. He sat in the waiting area - calm for a moment, his heart throbbing apprehensively as he stared at the ceiling as if his dear life depended on it.

Bryan waited for a whole hour. He dozed off at some point. He felt a touch on his shoulder and he sprang up to meet a nurse standing next to him. He stood up - quite disappointed that he dozed off within two shakes of a lamb's tail.

"...how's she doing?" Bryan asked.

"She's fine. We were able to stabilize her. The injury on her head was a minor one. There was no complication" The nurse said.

Bryan hurled a sigh of relief - one that has wavered in his heart ever since he brought the drunk lady into the clinic a few hours ago. He could only imagine what could have transpired if she lost her life.

"...but there's a problem," the nurse said - causing Bryan to swing out of his short trance of happiness.

"what's the problem?"

The nurse remains mute for a moment. She tucked her hand across her chest, furrowing her face. Her demeanor looked like she was going to proclaim a message of doom to Bryan. And as much as Bryan was willing to go to any length to save the drunk lady. He could feel his heart shattering already because of the bad news the nurse was about to declare.

"This is a really small clinic, and as a result, there's a limit to how many patients we can accommodate. Sadly, she won't be able to pass the night here" the nurse declared.

Bryan didn't utter a word, nor did he break eye contact with the nurse. She creased her eyebrows - stunned at Bryan's silence.

"...sir, did you get...?"

"It's fine" Bryan interrupted. "We'd leave tonight"

"Alright... I'd get her ready" the nurse said, and she walked back into the room.

Bryan kissed his teeth. He stared at his timepiece. 2:52 AM. He wished he could pass the night at the clinic, but obviously, it's like selling wolf tickets. Yet, it feels dangerous to be sauntering down the streets of LA at that time of the night. "....A life has to be saved" Bryna muttered under his breath.

Bryan's home was far from the city and the only place he could think of taking the girl to was a hotel room, thereafter she'd find her way home when it's morning.

The nurse walked back to the waiting area with the supposed accident victim. The nurse held the girl's arm across her shoulders, with a plaster on her head - letting her walk on her own would be detrimental - she's still drunk and she would end up going down like a sack of potatoes.

"There you go" the nurse whimpered handing over the drunk girl to Bryan.

Bryan clutched her arm and placed it around his neck - giving him access to hold her by the waist.

"...don't touch me" the drunk girl sneered"

Bryan gave no heed, instead, and dragged her out of the hallway - heading to the exit.
