Chapter 4: Sweet Revenge

The city shook violently at the strange news. And some people refused to believe their ears until they saw the magic themselves.

Such a thing had not been heard of before. One cure for all forms of cancer was about to be discovered.

But the government was still carrying out its investigation into the safety of the drug. And it had been reported that the drug was one hundred percent effective.

And the mysterious scholar who had discovered the cure for the ailment remained a mystery to the heart public.

"On a more serious note, who was this extremely brilliant scholar? The broadcaster on the TV announced.

Richmond switched off the new television set recently bought by John and Michael.

He was the scholar that discovered the drug but he didn't want anybody to start chasing him for a cure that had not yet been certified.

So, he had instructed that his name be hidden from the public. Even his roommates were blind to what was going on.

But few people in the city still knew who this scholar was. And of course, they were men of great connection in the city.

Among these men was Mr. Steven. He suffered from the same ailment that Richmond had found a cure for and the doctor had given him just thirty days to live.

His blood ran cold at the revelation and tears escaped from his eyes. In the next thirty days, he was going to leave all his wealth and his loved ones behind.

But When he heard of a cure, his hope was rekindled. He decided to search for this weird scholar immediately while he still had time.

On that fateful morning, Richmond received a strange call that he needed to see a cancerous patient immediately.

He was a little bit frightened to hear this news. Whoever was able to uncover his identity must be a man of great competence.

Richmond got dressed in his worn-out clothes and proceeded to Mr. Steven's place but he was interrupted by his roommates on his way.

"Hey, where is your broke ass limping too again?" Michael inquired

"Do I owe you guys any explanation?" Richmond returned.

"Are you still angry about the event that occurred the other day?" We already said that we are sorry," John pleaded again.

"I will think about your apology when I am back. For now, I have a very important appointment," Richmond ended.

He limped out of his room and banged the door behind him. He might be very poor but he still had some self-dignity.

Richmond limped over to Mr. Steven's with sweat already dripping From his tired face.

The Walk to the mansion was a long one. But he had to endure it because he didn't have enough money for the transport fare.

Finally, Richmond got to the house where he was supposed to meet with the wife of the cancer patient and bargain his price. He placed his hands on his legs to catch his breath.

"Ha! That was exhausting," he exclaimed breathing hard.

He was led into the beautiful mansion by a guard.

The mansion look indeed splendid but it was only second to his former family's Villa.

As he continued to survey the beauty of the mansion, his eyes caught up with someone in the Villa that made his jaw drop.

He strained his eyes to certify that his eyes weren't deceiving him. This was certainly too good to be true.

It was the same Tina that had rained insults on him the previous night. Now, he remembered where he heard that name from, the sick man was her father.

He could already feel his anger rising to his neck and his heart pounded hard against him. Immediately Tina saw him, the glass cup she was holding fell to the ground making a shattering sound.

"I have to leave here immediately," Richmond thought.

He turned over to Tina and shot a glare at her. "Tina Steven, if I remember clearly," he growled.

"Ye..ah," she froze.

Tina was shocked to see Richmond in her father's suite. He was the mystery doctor that was supposed to take care of her dying father.

"But was he going to take care of her father after all he insults she rained on him the previous night," she thought.

She just hoped he forgives her, her father's survival depends on it.

Richmond could no longer stand it staring into Tina's face. He turned around to leave the mansion immediately. He began to limp out of the place.

But Tina followed him closely from behind trying to plead for his Mercy.

"Please don't leave," she pleaded.

But he would not hear a word of what she was saying. She had called him a waste of sperm.

But now she wanted that same biological mistake to heal her sick dad. It was her turn to face her side of the coin.

"I am sorry, please come back," Tina continued to yell after him as tears ran down her flawless face.

She could not lose her dad all because of a silly mistake. She would have to make him come back. She would do anything, even if it meant getting married to him.

Tina finally got to Richmond and she held him by his shirt. Tearing her eyes out. "Please help me, I am very sorry for all the mean words I said to you," she pleaded.

Richmond looked into her eyes and didn't realize when tears started falling from his own eyes.

He could see Jennifer's rejecting him through her eyes. He could not forgive her not after all she said.

"After all you said to me? After calling me a biological mistake," he fired with tears already dripping from his eyes.

"I am sorry for everything I said, I never meant those words," she replied still holding him back.

"Are you even listening to yourself? You didn't mean those cruel words?"

It was her turn now to dance to the tune of this sad music. "I can't help you," he said almost in a whisper and pushed her away to the ground.

Tina wept her eyes out. Her dad was about to die because of her silly mistakes. Now she was stranded.

Meanwhile, Richmond's anger continued to swell and he decided not to head home at that time. He was going to Giwa bank. The closest river bank to the mansion.

When he got to the river, he recounted all the past events of his life. He could not forgive her. But the thought of someone dying when he had the opportunity to save a life made him shudder absently.

The constant words of his mother when she was still alive rang in his ears. "Always forgive all those who wrong you," she had always admonished him when she was still alive.

He could already feel tears pouring down from his eyes.

His heart was divided against itself, either to forgive or not.

Then, he settles on his decision. He was going to take care of the man without taking a dime from them.

But he would allow him to linger in pain until Tina would also be able to share his pain in his pain.

He rose from the river bank and proceeded towards his dormitory. If anybody needed him, they would come to get him at his dormitory.

He could not wait to see Tina's beautiful face torn apart with tears, crawling to him on her knees.

That would be the punishment for treating him like trash.

He began to limp to the dormitory. But halfway through his journey, a car drew a stop before him.

He wondered what lay await him again. His heart pounded hard as he waited for the occupants of the car to come out.

Then Tina and a drop dead gorgeous woman that could only be her mother came out of the car.

Just as he wanted, Tina's face was torn with tears. And together with her mother, she crawled on her knees over to him.

"Please forgive me and help my father," she sobbed.

Richmond smiled to himself. It was indeed satisfying when people who have placed themselves above your standard come crawling on their knees for help.
