Caleb grimaced at the amount of blood that was on his body.He had never liked seeing the rest fluid so much to the extent that he got very light headed whenever he saw blood. Even at this very moment he wondered how he had not passed out from all the blood he had seen today. Anastasia groaned in pain for the umpteenth time in that minute. She was losing a lot of blood and he didn’t know how else to save her other than wrapping around her abdomen with a cloth to put pressure on her open wound. The white shirt she wore was so red that you could not tell if it was white before.“Just leave me here and go” she mumbled closing her eyes tightly in pain. “Just go” she whispered turning her blood stained body away from Caleb.Caleb helped her sit right and said “Going isn’t an option for me right now. Besides where would I go?”“Into the fire upstairs?” she breathed out forcing a smile that looked painful onto her face. “Haha very funny” Caleb retorted sarcastically. He looked at her
“I’ll go first” Dexter announced sliding his body into the passage way. He got down to his knees when he saw a big rectangular vent that gave a view of the night sky filled with shiny stars. “I see it!” Dexter exclaimed to Jackson who was behind him. “I just have to push this goddamn vent open”Maybe because of how the metal had rusted over the years, the vent gave way on Dexter’s fifth push falling noiselessly into the grass beneath. Tears of joy brimmed his eyes as he poked his head out of the rectangular space. He crawled out of the passage greedily gulping in the night air like a depraved man. Jackson followed after looking around his surroundings.“Fuck!” he cursed looking up at the top part of the building. From half of the building upward was on fire.Bright red-orange flames danced around the building destroying and condemning. “We have to get back fast!” Jackson said troubled that the building was getting burned at such rapid rate. He climbed back into the passage with
Kira stared at the very last of her prey. She had lost count of how many she had slaughtered. She knew it was a lot but oddly enough she was still not satisfied. The spirit inside her wanted to go a never ending killing spree.Ripping out throats and licking eyeballs. It sounded like paradise to her. “Why are you doing this Kira?” Caleb asked looking intently at the monstrosity in front of them. She cackled like a witch putting her blood stained teeth on display. “Do I have to have any reason?”“As a matter of fact no you don’t.” answered Jackson. “You’re just a demented sick fuck. That’s all you are”Kira smiled. “I’d be careful with that mouth if I were you”One thing Jackson was good at was exchanging words and even with a killer in our presence he couldn’t hold back his tongue. So I was not shocked like Dexter when he replied Kira.“It’s my mouth and I get to decide how to use it”I mentally face palmed myself. Why did I ever think this guy was smart again?“It won’t be when
“Caleb!”Caleb rushed forward carrying the only furniture he could find. The second Dexter let go of Kira he banged the chair as hard as he could against her head. The impact caused the chair to break into pieces and Kira fell to a heap on the floor. Both of them were breathing hard and Caleb could not believe that he was actually engaging in physical combat. Kira jumped to her feet like she wasn’t just beaten multiple times. Three of her claws were broken and it looked like she was missing a few teeth and blood dripped from the side of her head to the floor.“She shouldn’t be able to stand” Caleb mumbled taking a step back.Dexter followed gripping the knife tightly in his right hand “We’re far from done”She launched herself at Caleb this time like a blind bat. She pushed Caleb to the floor climbing on top of him snarling her fangs in his face. “Die!” Dexter screamed stabbing his knife right into Kira’s neck.Cold blood splashed on Caleb’s face and body. His eyes were wide open a
JACK"Jack! Pass the ball here!"One of the other orphans shouts in my direction, over the noise of the market. The rattle and the din. The clomp of horse shoes and the cackle of chickens.I barely hear him, since the trader with the bulging belly to my left loudly haggles over the price of his bread with a customer. My eyes fall briefly on the round, soft rolls of bread lining the wooden stall, and I briefly wonder if I can borrow a fat loaf for Aunt back home. The thought distracts me for a second, but that's more than enough time for another kid to attempt to tackle the ragged ball from my foot.Years of playing kickball in the rowdy kingdom market makes my reflexes sharp, and I easily move away."Come on, Jack! Over here!"I kick the ball, and it barely missed a woman who promptly curses me out. I am grinning when a kid with prominent ribs and dirty skin catches the ball. However, that grin is immediately wiped off my face when yells erupt from an alley to the right. It can only b
The sounds of banging against the wooden door is what rouses me from my slumber. I blink the sleep from my eyes, and uncurl myself from my sleeping corner.Bang! Bang! Bang!"Open up in the name of his Majesty, the king!" A male voice yells outside.I let out a groan and stretch out my limbs, then brush the lint out of my dark hair. I cannot find the strip of cloth I always tie my shoulder-length hair back with, so I let it be and go ahead to yank the door open. The daylight filters in through the dank wood, and I pull the door open wider. Two guards stand in front of the cottage, menacing and rigid."We are the royal guards. Submit your taxes, you are far behind on your payments." One of the guards says stoically.I resist the urge to grimace at them. They always insist on introducing themselves each time they come for taxes, despite the fact that their attire definitely shows that they work for the king.I straighten up and tell them the same words I said during their last few visit
I watch the knights going in pursuit of the man on my donkey, and rapidly realizes the situation. The strange, shifty man is a thief. He broke into the King's vault of magical items and stole some seeds.I glance down at the satchel again. These seeds. They are indeed magical, from the castle and even belongs to the King. If they be so precious, why did he steal them, only to give them to me in exchange for a donkey?I tie the satchel up and place it into my rougher satchel, along with the five copper pieces.I decide to keep them, for they have to be as priceless as the man claims if so many royal guards are in desperate pursuit. Then, I think about aunt, and the 30 copper pieces I have to deliver to her.The guards will return tomorrow for our debt, and we have nothing else to sell. Our cow is too useful to be put for sale just yet.Telling her such a story is sure to be disappointing and will paint me as a reckless, gullible young lad. But I have no choice. I have to repeat the man
Those odd seeds still linger in my dreams when I suddenly jolt awake.I am disoriented for a second, before I realized what had roused me from earlier than planned. It was because of the strange rumbling sounds filling my ears. There are strange vibrations from the floor of the cottage, to match the rumbling sounds. I frown, watching the door rattle in it's hinges as the vibrations grow in intensity. In alarm, I shoot up to my feet, feeling the floor shake slightly under me. For the life of me, I can not figure out what the cause of this could be, so I hurry to the door.Throwing the shaking door open, I step outside to see three guards atop three mighty horses, galloping towards our little cottage. The horses hooves strike the ground with such power, that I feel the vibrations where I stand. The rumbling sounds only come from the horses hooves and their galloping.I sigh to myself,"These darn guards could not even wait till we are properly awake before barging in on us."The guards
