THE STUPENDOUS MAN THE FRIED PLANTAINS

When he gets to the door, he knocks on the door gently. A few minutes later, the door went open. It was Petra that opened the door. She greets Dr. Ryan gently, but with the way Dr. Ryan answers her, she knows everything is not well with Dr. Ryan. Besides, he looks a bit stressed. Petra allows Dr. Ryan to sit down on the couch before she leaves the sitting room. She returns to the sitting room, clutching a tray with both her hands. This tray contains three peeled oranges and a sharp-edged knife. She drops the tray on the table and says, “Ryan, would you mind some oranges?” “Yes. I am okay,” Dr. Ryan said gently. Petra gives Dr. Ryan his own food. Dr. Ryan thanked her and picked up a spoon from the table. He uses a white handkerchief to clean the spoon and dips it inside the food. The breakfast is a meal of fried rice, fried plantains and chicken. Petra serves her own food too. At the end, there are a few leftovers left. She prays by heart. She dips a spoon inside the food and carries a spoonful of food. She is still chewing the food when she hears Dr. Ryan’s voice. “This food tastes so nice,” Dr. Ryan said. “Thank you very much…,” Petra said. In no time, Dr. Ryan carried six spoonfuls of fried rice. This briefcase is black and it looks so neat. Liam drops the briefcase on the table. He clutches a mug from the table. He had only taken two sips of the contents of the mug when Margaret rushed into the sitting room. She looks so beautiful in her brown attire. She puts on a pair of brown shoes to compliment the gown. Margaret interrupts Liam. “I never put the mug on your head. What if I had poisoned the tea?” “All I know is that you will never do such a thing,” Liam said, giving a smile. Margaret ignores Liam. All her attention was fixed on the mug. She collects the mug from Liam softly and hurriedly empties its contents. Margaret dropped the mug on the table. Margaret was the first to see him. Liam, on the other hand, is engrossed in watching the television. His gaze is fixed on the television screen so that he doesn’t even notice anyone who enters inside the sitting room. “Your friend is here,” Margaret said, hitting Liam on the lap. Liam looks in the direction of the door and sees his friend. The tall man cannot hold it. He began to laugh. Margaret and Liam join him in the laughter too. “Do have your seat, Dr. Kennedy,” Margaret said. She is still laughing. Dr. Kennedy stops laughing. He sits down on an empty couch and says, “Thank you. Good evening, friends.” “Good everyone, runaway friend,” Liam said. “I won’t take that from you.” “Don’t mind him, Dr. Kennedy. He is so garrulous. He should at least welcome you back home before calling you

Liam and Dr. Kennedy leaves the dining room, while Margaret waits inside the dining room. She ensures that she tidies the dining table before she leaves the dining room. When Margaret gets to the sitting room, she meets the friends discussing with each other. They are seated on the same couch. She sits down on an empty couch and begins to listen to them. She didn’t utter any words throughout the conversation. Over the years, she has turned into more of a listener, instead of a speaker. He had only sat on the couch for four minutes when Rachael walked into the sitting room. She is dressed in a simple gown. “Welcome, dear,” Rachael said. “Thank you. How did you know that I had arrived? I didn’t make a noise.” “Well, I heard the sound of your bus. I knew it was no other person, but you.” “You are so intelligent. How was work today?” “It was fine.
