Trevor wiped the sweat from his forehead as the Banana Bandit finally disappeared into a puff of smoke, leaving behind a single glowing banana.

Quest Complete! Reward: 5 XP and 1 Heroic Banana.

“A heroic banana?” Trevor said, picking it up gingerly. “What am I supposed to do with this? Start a fruit stand?”

“Of course not!” GL1TCH chirped, hovering around him. “You’ll thank me later. Now, onto your next quest!”

Another glowing text box appeared.

New Quest: Rescue the Princess from the Tower!

Objective: Reach the tower (0/1), Defeat the Tower Guard (0/1), Rescue the Princess (0/1). Reward: 20 XP and 1 Mystery Loot Box.

Trevor groaned. “This is a joke, right? I just got here, and now you want me to fight some tower guard? I barely survived a monkey with a sword!”

“Don’t worry! This quest is much easier. Probably.” GL1TCH tilted its cube-shaped head.

“Define ‘easier,’” Trevor muttered, rubbing his temples.

“C’mon, let’s go!” GL1TCH zipped ahead, leading Trevor toward a distant tower silhouetted against the horizon.

---

The trek to the tower wasn’t exactly epic. Trevor stumbled through fields of grass, tripped over a root, and nearly sprained his ankle stepping into a rabbit hole.

“This is ridiculous,” he grumbled. “Heroes in movies make this look so cool.”

After what felt like hours (but was probably closer to twenty minutes), Trevor finally reached the base of the tower.

It was a crumbling, crooked structure that looked like it was held together by duct tape and sheer determination. At the entrance stood a hulking figure—a seven-foot-tall ogre wielding a spiked club.

“Okay,” Trevor said, staring up at the ogre. “That’s the Tower Guard? How am I supposed to fight that?”

GL1TCH blinked. “Use your heroic banana!”

“You’ve got to be kidding me,” Trevor said, holding up the glowing fruit.

“Trust me!” GL1TCH said.

Trevor sighed. “Fine. Here goes nothing.”

With a reluctant yell, he chucked the banana at the ogre. To his shock, it exploded on impact, covering the creature in glowing banana mush.

The ogre froze, staring down at itself. Then, with a deafening roar, it dropped its club and bolted into the woods.

Quest Updated: Defeat the Tower Guard (1/1).

Trevor blinked. “What just happened?”

“The banana was enchanted with Fear Magic,” GL1TCH explained. “It’s super effective against low-level enemies!”

“I’m not sure what’s worse,” Trevor said, “the fact that I just beat an ogre with a banana or the fact that you said that like it’s completely normal.”

“Both,” GL1TCH said cheerfully. “Now, let’s get that princess!”

---

The inside of the tower was dark, dusty, and smelled faintly of mildew. Trevor climbed the spiral staircase, his stick-turned-sword held tightly in his hand.

“Why do I feel like this is a trap?” he muttered.

“Don’t be so paranoid,” GL1TCH said.

Finally, they reached the top. Trevor pushed open a creaky wooden door and stepped into the room.

Inside was a woman in a flowing dress, sitting on a throne-like chair. Her back was to him, and her long, golden hair cascaded down to the floor.

“Uh... hi,” Trevor said, cautiously stepping forward. “I’m here to rescue you?”

The woman turned around slowly, revealing... a terrifyingly familiar face.

It was the Banana Bandit. Wearing a wig.

Trevor froze. “You’ve got to be kidding me.”

The Banana Bandit screeched, ripping off the wig and lunging at Trevor.

“GL1TCH! What the heck is going on?!” Trevor yelled, dodging the Bandit’s attack.

“Oops! I forgot to mention—some princess quests have, uh, plot twists,” GL1TCH said sheepishly.

“Yeah, great timing!” Trevor shouted, swinging his sword.

The Bandit was faster than before, ducking and weaving around Trevor’s attacks. It grabbed a candlestick and hurled it at him.

“Any chance I get a better weapon?” Trevor asked, narrowly avoiding the projectile.

“Check your inventory!” GL1TCH said.

Trevor groaned, pulling up his menu. To his surprise, there was a new item:

Inventory:

A Stick

1 Expired Healing Potion

A Mystery Loot Box

“Oh, come on, a loot box?!” Trevor said.

“Open it!” GL1TCH insisted.

With no better options, Trevor selected the box. It burst open, revealing a frying pan.

“You’re kidding me,” Trevor muttered.

“Trust me, it’s better than it looks!” GL1TCH said.

Trevor didn’t have time to argue. He grabbed the frying pan and swung it just as the Bandit lunged again. The pan connected with a loud CLANG, sending the Bandit flying across the room.

Critical Hit! Banana Bandit Defeated.

Trevor slumped to the ground, breathing heavily. “Please tell me that’s the end of this madness.”

Another notification popped up:

Quest Complete! You have earned 20 XP and 1 Heroic Loot Chest.

“See? That wasn’t so bad!” GL1TCH said.

“I’m starting to think this Hero System is just a really bad joke,” Trevor muttered.

“Don’t be silly! Now, let’s open that loot chest!”

Trevor groaned. This was going to be a long journey.

Trevor stared at the glowing loot chest floating in front of him. “Do I really have to open this?” “Yes!” GL1TCH chirped, bouncing excitedly. “It could have something amazing inside! Like a legendary sword! Or magical armor!” “Or another frying pan,” Trevor muttered, crossing his arms. “Come on, Trevor! What’s the worst that could happen?” Trevor raised an eyebrow. “Did you forget I just fought a banana-flinging monkey and a cross-dressing Bandit Princess? My bar for ‘worst’ is already pretty low.” The chest shimmered, as if impatient. “Fine,” Trevor sighed, reaching for it. He braced himself as he lifted the lid. A bright light shot out of the chest, nearly blinding him. When it faded, he found himself holding... A chicken. A well-timed frying pan swing and you’ll be fine. Trust me, it’s all about timing!” “Right,” Trevor said dryly, glancing down at Sir Clucksalot, who let out a low, annoyed cluck. “What do you think, Clucksalot? Are you ready to save me from a horde of goblins with your firebreathing chicken powers?” Sir Clucksalot pecked at Trevor’s ear in response. “Yeah, that’s encouraging,” Trevor sighed. Trevor leaned against the jagged stone wall of the dungeon corridor, his breaths echoing in the silence. The flickering light of a torch barely illuminated the narrow path ahead, casting shadows that danced like specters. His trusty sword, Bob, was strapped to his back, humming faintly as if eager for action. “This whole dungeon life thing is overrated,” Trevor muttered, taking another swig from his water flask. He glanced at the crumpled map he’d found in the last dungeon—its edges burned, and the markings on it cryptic at best. The scroll mentioned "breaking the rules," but the only rules Trevor wanted to break were the ones forcing him into another dank, monster-infested cavern. “Why couldn’t the system drop me into a nice meadow or, I don’t know, a beachfront resort?” Before he could lament further, a faint rustling sound reached his ears. Trevor stiffened, his hand instinctively reaching for Bob. The sound grew louder—a mix of hurried footsteps and... jingling coins? Sudden

Trevor sat cross-legged on the cold stone floor, staring at the Fragment of Ascension glowing faintly in his hand. The weight of it felt far heavier than it should, as though the fragment was aware of the destiny it carried. Across from him, Lyra paced back and forth, her leather armor creaking softly with every step. "So," Trevor began, breaking the silence. "How exactly does this thing work? Do I rub it like a genie lamp or—" "Don’t be stupid," Lyra interrupted, rolling her eyes. "The fragment doesn’t work on its own. You need all of them to activate the Ascension Gate." Trevor frowned. "And how many are there?" Lyra paused, leaning against the wall with her arms crossed. "Seven." "Seven?" Trevor groaned. "That’s a lot of running around for someone who’s still trying to figure out how not to die here." "Welcome to the system," Lyra said dryly. "It’s not exactly forgiving." Trevor sighed, tucking the fragment into his inventory. "Fine. So, where do we start?" Lyra smirked. "

It was nestled in a valley, surrounded by misty forests and sparkling streams, giving it an almost surreal beauty. Yet, as they walked through the town's cobbled streets, Trevor couldn’t shake the feeling that something was wrong. The people who bustled around them seemed to have an air of secrecy about them, eyes darting behind closed doors, whispering when they thought no one was listening. “This place feels off,” Trevor murmured, glancing around. After all, anyone who knew about the Heart of the Ancients had to be powerful—and more than a little dangerous. The Heart, Zane claimed, was located somewhere deep within the Emerald Caverns, a labyrinthine system of caves that ran beneath the city of Solace, a place no one dared to venture into for centuries. Trevor didn’t like the sound of that. He wasn’t sure if it was the vague threat in Zane’s voice or the fact that the man had seemed far too calm for someone who was supposed to be handing over an artifact with so much power. But they didn’t have much choice. As far as Trevor was concerned, the faster they retrieved this artifact, the sooner they could get back on track with their true goal: finding the remaining Fragments of Ascen
