Nathan was slipping a Rolex around his left wrist when his phone began to ring. The corners of his mouth twitched with excitement when he picked up the phone and saw the screen.

It was Avery calling so Nathan concluded that she was calling to inform him that Jackson and Larry had shown up and he had better not be late.

When Nathan responded to the call, he was stunned by the silence that followed afterward. He mumbled the word “Hello!” several times but there was no response.

Then his ears suddenly picked up a hoarse voice yelling at someone. “Don’t you dare look back? Just keep your mouth shut and get into the damn car.”

Nathan’s eyebrows went up. He stared at the phone screen and realized that Avery was still on the line. Then the call went off and when he tried to call her back, her line was disconnected.
