The other customers gasped in shock as they heard what the manager said. It was really a premium green card. How come a man like this has such a card in his possession? He probably stole it. Most of them thought.
Shane remained fixed to a spot. His mouth was wide open. He couldn't believe his ears. Why would Jake have such a card? Even as one of the wealthiest men in Canada, he hadn't been able to acquire the card. The card had no credit limit and the holders of such card were limited. Jake must have stolen it or probably it was a fake one.
He struggled to maintain his composure as he said, "Mr Brown, are you sure it's the green premium card? I know one when I see it and this doesn't look like the card. Plus, there's no way my friend here would be in possession of such card!"
The manager considered it for a while and nodded his head, realizing he made some sense. He turned to face Jake. This time around he chose his words carefully, but he still wasn't entirely sure the card was fake.
"Mister, we would check the authenticity of the card. If you know it's a fake one, you had better confess now." He said.
Jake blinked rapidly, still trying to recover from the Manager's declaration of the card being a green premium card. He had once heard of the existence of such a card in high school, but he had thought it was just a cooked-up story. But to think such a card was in his possession made him feel lightheaded.
"Huh?" He muttered absent-mindedly.
"Are you sure it's a real one?" The manager asked again.
Jake was about to say something, but-----
"Sweetheart?"
The voice. He felt his whole body stiffen as a faint heart stole over his face. The bank suddenly felt too hot. He knew the voice belonged to none other than Madison. He dreaded to see her face. He wasn't yet prepared. He didn't want her to know he was hurt.
Wait a minute!! Did she just call him sweetheart? He didn't think twice, he just acted. He turned towards her direction and walked up to her. She was smiling and his heart fluttered. She wasn't serious about the divorce after all. His heart leaped with joy.
He got to her and realized, too late, the direction of her gaze. She wasn't even looking at him, instead, at something behind him. He moved aside and saw Shane smiling back at her.
What is going on here?? He wondered. Somebody help! He wanted to scream. Did Madison just call Shane, "sweetheart"? No, that can't be.
"Madison?" He called out softly and the latter turned to glare out at him.
"How may I help you, Jake?" She said harshly and Shane smirked mockingly behind him, patting him gently on the shoulder.
As Shane wrapped his hand around Madison's waist, he felt a surge of pain mixed with fury. How dare he??? He couldn't control his emotions as he rushed at him, yanked his hand away from Madison's waist, and landed a hot slap on his face.
There was an uproar among the customers. Even the staff had come downstairs to watch what was going on.
Shane spat out blood, his face twitching in pain. "How dare you!! You bastard?!" He barked.
The manager scurried over, glaring at him with contempt. "You really went overboard, you rascal. Even if you possess a premium card, you can't steal stand to Mr Adlon's wealth." He scoffed. "The card is probably fake. You only came here to distract us, so your gang members could rob the bank. Bring those bastards in!" He suddenly yelled at the guards.
Two guards together with about five scary-looking men walked in. The men had their hands bound with handcuffs. Jake stared at them, wondering what was going on.
"What do you mean?" He asked, looking so confused and puzzled.
"You'll soon know!" The manager scowled at him, then faced one of the men. "Is this man part of your gang?" The man shook his head.
The manager slapped the man hard on the face. "Is this man here your leader?" He asked again, and the man nodded his head rapidly.
"He's our leader and he forced us to rob the bank. He said he was going to kill us if we confessed."
"What!?" Jake's eyes widened in shock.
Him? A bank robber? The leader at that? It sounded so funny to him that he had to fight hard against the urge to laugh. Before Jake knew what was happening, two muscular arms clamped around him and tackled him to the ground. "Argh!" He groaned in pain."If you dare touch a single hair on his head, I'll slash your fucking throat." A sharp voice sounded at the doorway as the door was pushed open. Two burly men walked in, followed by a man dressed in an expensive tailored suit. He seemed to be in his early thirties and he had a commanding air around him. His gaze looked fierce. He wasn't someone to be trifled with. Fearing for his life, the guard quickly released his grip on Jake.Again, there was an uproar among the customers. "Who was this man?" Many of them whispered."He was definitely wealthy!"He walked elegantly to where Jake was. He offered him a hand and helped him stand. Immediately Jake was on his feet, the man moved an inch backwards and bowed courtly to him throwing the onlo
Shane squeezed his eyes in fear, afraid that the guard might really do that to him. Seeing the scene at hand, the manager came to his rescue."At least, as the manager of this bank, you wouldn't skin me alive for trying to perform my duties. I must check whether he's really a robber or not!!"It was Max's turn to speak now. "You'll be sued for slander if you should confirm at the end of the day that he's really not a robber. I'll make you regret accusing the young master falsely, are you still bent on doing it?"The manager cowered in fear, weighing the options. The customers started murmuring. Some of them were encouraging him, while some of them held their breath, watching what would happen next.Suddenly, someone said. "He's not part of us. I could swear I'd never seen this man in my life. I only said he was part of us because I was too scared and I didn't want to continue being slapped by this man, here." He pointed to the manager. It was one of the robbers and the manager Immedia
Jake couldn't believe his ears. Did Madison actually say that to him? The woman he loved the most in this world actually insinuated that he was a thief. He was so shocked that he didn't know what to say. Why was she acting this way? What would she gain from accusing him falsely?A hand touched his arms and Max whispered to him. "Sir, allow me to teach all of them a very hard lesson."No! He couldn't possibly punish Madison. He still cared so much about her. He shook his head. "Don't worry about that. I'll handle it my own way."As he made his way towards Madison, she instinctively stepped an inch backward. She feared what he was going to do to her for accusing him. She hadn't wanted to do it too, but she'd had to. If only he knew that was the only way to save all of them-----Both of them just stared at each other without uttering a single word. Jake could immediately discern that she was struggling to maintain eye contact with him.He glanced casually at Shane. "You! You're very luck
Max was saying this again, that means it had to be true. Jake thought. But how come? Who is this grandfather of his that had suddenly resurfaced after all these years? He had lived as an orphan all his life, so why was his grandfather showing up now when---- God! He'd been living his life in misery, having people blame him for killing his own parents at birth. He suddenly felt anger and disdain towards whoever his grandfather was.But he had so many questions to ask. "So when can I get to see this grandfather of mine?" He asked, wrinkling his nose."Well, he's away at the moment. He would be coming soonest by the weekend. He's only asked us to bring you back home and then brief you about the ownership. He would explain anytime else later." Max answered. They drove down to the airport and flew to Calgary. A sleek black limousine was already waiting for them as soon as they walked out of the airport in Calgary. Jake kept wondering if everything happening was truly real. It was happenin
Jake stood, dazed by what the security guard said. Well, he didn't doubt it, judging by what he was wearing, he surely did look like an escort. He smiled, trying not to attract attention."Well, I'm a shareholder too." He said calmly. The guard scoffed. "Yeah, you sure are. How many shares do you have? Two, maybe one. Get the hell out of here before I pounce on you!" He yelled at him, now attracting the attention of the other shareholders.Max tried to intervene but Jake signaled for him to stop. He was finding more interesting than he could imagine. He wanted to know what lengths the bodyguard would go to humiliate him."I'm not getting out of here. Like I told you, I'm a shareholder, and this is a meeting that concerns me. Does it really matter how many shares I have? The main thing is at least I have one!" He tried to enter again and the guard pushed him roughly."Respect yourself now and leave, you rascal!""Jake?" A voice said, and it laughed mockingly."Hello, Mr. Davis," Jake s
The hall fell silent for a while then they started murmuring. What the hell just happened? Why would the chairman make such a decision? They had thought Tyler would be the chairman and not this stranger. In fact, most of them had even congratulated him a day before. So what exactly happened? Who was this Jake McPherson dressed in a cheap outfit? For all they knew, Tyler was the most senior grandson of senior McPherson and naturally, he should be the heir and chairman, so who was this imposter? Or was he a bastard grandson?"No! He can't be the chairman!" Mr Davis yelled. No! That wasn't possible. How would Jake whom he had earlier fired be the chairman of this big consortium? He just couldn't believe that outright lie.The other shareholders agreed with him. Those that were distant relations started murmuring. He wasn't a member of their family. And only a family member can succeed the former chairman."Let's check the list of shareholders if his name is there!" Someone suggested and
Jake saw the man's face. He looked like he was in his early thirties. It was definitely not his grandfather. He thought. Why did he then call the company his?The man walked up to Jake and poke his finger in his chest. "Who are you!? I just received that there was an imposter trying to claim to be the chairman!! Who are you trying to fool?"Jake didn't know what to say. He had never been confused like this all his life. And now he suddenly felt like laughing."You're laughing?" The man said, irritation sipping into his voice. "Do you want to die young!?""Sir Tyler, please, watch your tongue!" Max said in a sharp tone.Tyler shot him an angry look. "Stay out of this. You're just an ordinary secretary to my grandfather! What do you even know about the family business?"Max refused to back down. "Well, I'm now Mr Ryder's secretary, and to your disappointment, he is the new chairman and not you. Senior McPherson didn't choose you as his successor."His words angered Tyler so much that he
Son? What does old McPherson mean?Has his old age started to get to his brain?"I have my reason for choosing this young man here. I know what I'm doing. I clearly told all the shareholders of McPherson's that my eldest grandson was going to succeed me, right? Unfortunately for Tyler, he isn't my eldest grandson!"The hall fell into an uproar. Sir Tyler isn't the eldest grandson. Does that mean this shabbily dressed Chairman was the eldest grandson?Jake walked up to him and bowed slightly. The old pulled him into his arms for a hug. "How have you been, son?" He turned to the shareholders. "My eldest grandson here is the new chairman of McPherson's consortium and the heir of McPherson's family."They couldn't believe their ears and they quickly regretted their actions. What would Jake do to them now? He didn't look like someone who would hold grudges for too long. Some of them quickly tried to get on his good side."Congratulations, junior McPherson!" They all greeted.Mr Davis could
