CHAPTER SEVEN

The other customers gasped in shock as they heard what the manager said. It was really a premium green card. How come a man like this has such a card in his possession? He probably stole it. Most of them thought.

Shane remained fixed to a spot. His mouth was wide open. He couldn't believe his ears. Why would Jake have such a card? Even as one of the wealthiest men in Canada, he hadn't been able to acquire the card. The card had no credit limit and the holders of such card were limited. Jake must have stolen it or probably it was a fake one.

He struggled to maintain his composure as he said, "Mr Brown, are you sure it's the green premium card? I know one when I see it and this doesn't look like the card. Plus, there's no way my friend here would be in possession of such card!"

The manager considered it for a while and nodded his head, realizing he made some sense. He turned to face Jake. This time around he chose his words carefully, but he still wasn't entirely sure the card was fake.

"Mister, we would check the authenticity of the card. If you know it's a fake one, you had better confess now." He said.

Jake blinked rapidly, still trying to recover from the Manager's declaration of the card being a green premium card. He had once heard of the existence of such a card in high school, but he had thought it was just a cooked-up story. But to think such a card was in his possession made him feel lightheaded.

"Huh?" He muttered absent-mindedly.

"Are you sure it's a real one?" The manager asked again.

Jake was about to say something, but-----

"Sweetheart?"

The voice. He felt his whole body stiffen as a faint heart stole over his face. The bank suddenly felt too hot. He knew the voice belonged to none other than Madison. He dreaded to see her face. He wasn't yet prepared. He didn't want her to know he was hurt.

Wait a minute!! Did she just call him sweetheart? He didn't think twice, he just acted. He turned towards her direction and walked up to her. She was smiling and his heart fluttered. She wasn't serious about the divorce after all. His heart leaped with joy.

He got to her and realized, too late, the direction of her gaze. She wasn't even looking at him, instead, at something behind him. He moved aside and saw Shane smiling back at her.

What is going on here?? He wondered. Somebody help! He wanted to scream. Did Madison just call Shane, "sweetheart"? No, that can't be.

"Madison?" He called out softly and the latter turned to glare out at him.

"How may I help you, Jake?" She said harshly and Shane smirked mockingly behind him, patting him gently on the shoulder.

As Shane wrapped his hand around Madison's waist, he felt a surge of pain mixed with fury. How dare he??? He couldn't control his emotions as he rushed at him, yanked his hand away from Madison's waist, and landed a hot slap on his face.

There was an uproar among the customers. Even the staff had come downstairs to watch what was going on.

Shane spat out blood, his face twitching in pain. "How dare you!! You bastard?!" He barked.

The manager scurried over, glaring at him with contempt. "You really went overboard, you rascal. Even if you possess a premium card, you can't steal stand to Mr Adlon's wealth." He scoffed. "The card is probably fake. You only came here to distract us, so your gang members could rob the bank. Bring those bastards in!" He suddenly yelled at the guards.

Two guards together with about five scary-looking men walked in. The men had their hands bound with handcuffs. Jake stared at them, wondering what was going on.

"What do you mean?" He asked, looking so confused and puzzled.

"You'll soon know!" The manager scowled at him, then faced one of the men. "Is this man part of your gang?" The man shook his head.

The manager slapped the man hard on the face. "Is this man here your leader?" He asked again, and the man nodded his head rapidly.

"He's our leader and he forced us to rob the bank. He said he was going to kill us if we confessed."

"What!?" Jake's eyes widened in shock.
