Max sighed as he walked into the hospital. He was looking gloomy at the moment and one could see the sadness in his eyes.
"Mr. Max, I'm sorry, but there's nothing we can do, we'll need to carry out the surgery for her as quickly as possible, it'll be advisable for you to do it before it's too late."
The doctor's words rang in Max's ears as he walked along the corridor to his mother's ward. The ward wasn't a big one, neither was it a small one.
He had requested his mother to be put here so she could at least have some peace. Even though Max had some problems footing the hospital bills, he never complained.
He didn't know how he was going to get the money for her operation, there must be something he could do. But it was helpless, no matter who he turned to for help, they didn't agree to help him because he was poor and was afraid he wouldn't be able to pay back.
Max couldn't let his mother die, she had done a lot of things for him. Tears couldn't help but stream down his face when he remembered how many jobs she had to take on to feed him.
The bullying and insults she had to endure just to feed, clothe and send him to school. He could remember the smile on his mother's face even if she was tired. She would make sure he eats before she ate even if it meant that she was going to go hungry.
His mother never complained about the hardships of life nor did she scold him when he did anything wrong, all she would do was look at him with a reassuring smile.
What else could he ask for, not her? He just couldn't allow her to die. He wanted to save her but he had no money. How much of a son was he worth? He didn't deserve to be her son in any way.
Max couldn't hello but rub his mother's bony and rough hands which were beginning to go cold at the moment. The tears which he had forcefully stopped came rushing down again. He just couldn't control his emotions.
It seems he had no other choice at this moment but to do what he had been unwilling to do. But was it worth it? Well, it seems like he had no other choice at this moment.
"Max, here you are." A voice came just as Max was about to pick up his phone and make a call and a lady walked in staring at Max in disgust. Her voice sounded cheerful, but it was laced with disdain and one could feel it.
"What are you doing here?" Max asked with a smile staring at the beautiful lady standing in front.
She was his wife's assistant and she had a rather good face and body, but was still miles away when compared to his wife. Why was his mother-in-law pestering him to divorce her daughter?
It was because her daughter was the most beautiful lady in the city and she wanted to marry her off to one of the prestigious families so she could gain their favor, Max wasn't worthy of her in any way.
Max could feel the disdain in the woman's eyes but he could care less about it, he was already used to such gazes so he wasn't too bothered about it.
"Your wife asked me to give you this, she said you're not allowed to refuse it." The woman sighed and passed the bag to Max feeling as though he was the most useless man she had ever met.
How dare he ask his wife to give him money, he had made her borrow money from a loan shark. Who knew what was good to happen next?
"What's inside?" Max frowned.
"That's fifty thousand dollars, it's your wife's savings, and a little of it she borrowed."
Max froze upon hearing this. He couldn't believe that his wife would try to help him out in this situation. His heart was in turmoil and he didn't know what to do.
"She would have come herself, but she's kind of busy with some projects." The woman said apologetically when she saw Max's expression, she had mistaken it for something else which made her even displease Max even more.
How dare he complain that his wife didn't come by herself when she had already tired herself out borrowing money and giving up her life-saving.
If it was, she would have done away with such a useless man who was so poor that he couldn't afford a set of proper clothing and shoes. She had the urge to cover her nose in disgust but had no choice but to hold back.
She would be in trouble if the useless man should tell his wife what she did which she was trying to avoid.
"Thanks for bringing me this." Max smiled and nodded.
He wasn't surprised his wife didn't come, it wasn't that she was busy, but if she came herself, she might be caught by her mother which would put them both in trouble.
"I'll be leaving now." The woman smiled and walked out of the ward as if something was chasing her away.
Mark sighed as he looked at the bag of money brought by his wife's assistant. He couldn't help but shake in the head. In their three years of marriage, she had always been the one taking care of him.
Never once did he do something for her, all he did was to request and she would give him without complaining. He had expected her to leave him many years ago, but she stuck to him like gum.
She would even defend him anytime her mother tried to humiliate him and all he would do was to watch.
He had been a coward all his life and wasn't even able to stand up for his wife anytime she needed him. All he was able to do was to watch.
This time, everything was going to change. He was going to give her the world. She had proved that she deserved his love and he was going to repay her for all she had done.
She was never going to suffer from any ridicule, he would make sure to protect her at all costs.
Also, there was no way he could bring himself to use the money she had saved and borrowed, he would rather return it to her and resort to other means than use the money she worked so hard to earn.
Max sighed as he came to a realization. Money was everything. Without money, one was pitiful and there was nothing one would be able to do. Without money, one was the lowest in society. How foolish was he to think he could live a peaceful life by just being a live son-in-law, it seems like he was rather stupid for thinking like this. It was because he didn't have any money and his mother-in-law didn't like him. Also, it was the same reason why she had offered him a large amount of money so he could divorce his wife. Also, he couldn't give his wife what she deserved, and never for once had she complained. At this moment Max was feeling guilty, he knew that there was no way he was going to make it without having money. Without money, nothing was going to work out. He was destined to be trampled on by others. He had seen the evils of society and how they treated those who didn't have money. The ones who didn't have money were destined to be trashed and used as the others wished. They had
After about ten minutes, Max was done paying and had filled out all the necessary forms. The doctors assured him that they were going to arrange for the operation as soon as they could.Max sighed as he walked out of the hospital holding the bag of money his wife's assistant had brought for him. Walking to his bike, Max started it and headed towards Cisco company. He might as well visit the company since he had some time left. There was still about an hour left before going to pick up his wife from work.Riding along the highway was such a hassle, but Max was already used to it. In no time, he was already at the company.Looking at the huge building which was one of the tallest buildings in the city, Max felt a sense of complex feeling welling up in his heart. Pushing all thoughts to the back of his mind, he walked into the building."Hey! Stop there!" A hoarse voice sounded just as Max was about to walk into the building.Max frowned and turned around only to see a huge man in securi
At this moment, Ethan was covered in sweat as he watched Max walking out of the building not sparing him a glance. He couldn't help but remember Albert's order not to do anything that was going to displease Max or else he was going to suffer the consequences.Just now, someone had rushed into his office and told him a man named Max Darkwood was looking for him. Immediately, he left what he was doing and rushed down only to see what was happening."You're fired." Ethan gritted his teeth as he pointed at the receptionist and then rushed out to follow Max.The receptionist stood rooted to the spot not knowing what to do. She couldn't believe a man dressed in such a shabby way would have the power to make Mr. Ethan fire her.At the moment, Ethan could care less about his image as he followed Max."Mr. Darkwood, please forgive me and give me another chance." Ethan pleaded as he ran towards Max."I'm sorry, but your time is up already, there's nothing I can do about it," Max said with a rat
"Huh!"The on-looker gasped seeing Max alight from the car with his shabby clothes. Even Michelle couldn't help but gasp when she saw Mark. Her brain couldn't process what was happening.Max on the other hand had a smile on his face, it was finally time to give his wife all that she deserved. There was no way he was going to let her suffer unjustly again. He was going to Make sure he spent no effort to make Michelle happy.Seeing the gaze on the crowd's faces, he could guess what was happening. Seeing this a smirk appeared on his face as he walked towards Michelle."Shall we?" He smiled holding Michelle's hand immediately he got to her."Yes," Michelle muttered as she nodded weakly."Hey, where do you think you're going?" A yell came just as Max was about to proceed to the car."Where do you think I'm taking her to?" Mark smiled as he stared at Smith."You are just good for nothing, you're not qualified to hold her hands." Smith frowned staring daggers at Max wishing he could take his
"Can't I come here?" Rachel frowned as she stared at her daughter."Mum, every time you come, you end up wanting to make me divorce Max which is impossible, no matter what you'll say I'll never divorce him," Michelle argued."Foolish girl, who said I'm here to make trouble for you both?" Rachel smiled while shooting Max a disdainful glare. She wondered what sort of sorcery Max had used on her daughter that was making her refuse to divorce a useless man like him. There were young masters of many prominent families she could get married to and live a better life other than living in such a crappy place. Her eyes were full of disgust as she looked around. If only her daughter could be more sensible, then she'll be living a good life instead of living such a wretched life.Well, she wasn't to blame, she could only blame her father who had approved of the two marriages before he died. If only he hadn't given his consent then this wouldn't have happened.Max on the other hand didn't care ab
(THE NEXT DAY)Max smiled as he watched Michelle walk into the company. He had his bike brought back the night before as he would be needing it. He would have carried Michelle straight to the hotel but then the appointment wasn't till in the evening which made Max even more doubtful.Well, then that wasn't his problem. He was still going to find out what was happening sooner or later. First, he decided to do some work as he had some delivery piling up.He was going to quit the job sooner or later, but then he had to do some last job since he loved the job so much.It was what had saved him from joblessness for three years and he had grown to love the job. Even though he was going to quit sooner or later, he wanted to do some delivery before he did so.In no time, it was noon. Max sighed as he wiped away his sweat. He had been working nonstop since morning and was very hungry at the moment. Looking at his pocket, he noticed he didn't have even a dime. This was bad, after thinking about
Max's expression changed seeing that the call was disconnected. Immediately, he knew that something was wrong."Mr. Max, if I may ask, what's wrong?" Ethan frowned when he saw Max's unnatural expression."How many minutes from here to the Four Seasons hotel?" Max asked, ignoring Ethan's question."It should take about thirty minutes.""I want to get there in ten minutes.""Sir, the fastest route ignoring all road rules, you'll get there in fifteen minutes.""Fine." Max frowned."Yes sir," Ethan replied and rushed out of his office while Max followed closely.Getting to the garage of the company, Ethan got into a car that Max was sure was his. But then it was none of his concern.Soon the engine of the car came to life and Ethan drove out of the company at a very high speed ignoring everything.-----"I'm sorry Mr. Lucas, but I can drink anymore, we've not even had the chance to talk about the contract." Michelle rejected the toast, her face blushing red as she managed to keep herself
"Who the hell do you think you are?" Lucas raged looking at Max who was staring at him. "You dare ask me who I am after wanting to take advantage of my wife?" Max growled, kicking Lucas as he walked towards Michelle who was lying on the floor. At the moment, he couldn't hold back his anger and all he wanted was to make sure his wife was safe. He just couldn't believe that Lucas was about to take advantage of Michelle. "How dare you hit me?" Lucas yelled, staring at Max apprehensively. "You idiot," Max roared, picking Lucas up and flinging him across the room like he was a piece of paper. "Argh!" Lucas screamed as he hit the glass table breaking it into pieces. But then Max wasn't done. Walking towards Lucas, he stepped on his hands and soon breaking of bones was heard making Lucas scream out in pain. But still, Max felt it was not enough and stepped on his legs. "The Claros wouldn't let you off," Lucas said through gritted teeth as he stared at Max with hatred in his eyes. "Th
Just as Max and Michelle drove away from the jewelry store, two figures walked out of the alley just by the side.Thank you readers! One was an old man who had a white beard, the other was a young man with handsome features. Both had a kind of aura that made the people around them automatically ignore them."Master, aren't you going to meet him?" The young man asked as he looked at the old man curiously."Jackson, Max is far better off living an ordinary life, there's no need for us to pull him into our chaotic lives." The old man shook his head as he walked away from the place."But master, you said he's a once-in-a-century genius, I'm sure he'll appreciate it," Jackson asked, not wanting to give up.The old man sighed and shook his head looking at the young man, sighing he looked away. After a moment of silence, he said."I know I said that, but that was his mother's wish. He's far better off living as a rich young master.""But he's talented, we've been around for the past few mont
"Who wanted to see me?" An arrogant voice came after about five minutes just as the sales girl went to call the manager.Thank you readers!"It's me." Max frowned as he looked at the Manager.Immediately the manager saw Max, his body trembled with fear, what the hell was this devil doing here?Others might not know, but he knew rather too well, that Max was the one who brought down the Nightshade family. Though he didn't know much about the details, the little he knew made him shiver and it was as though he was going to pee in his pants."Come over." Max waved his hands as he said."I'm sorry, Mr. Darkwood, I didn't know you were the one." The Manager immediately ran over as he greeted Max.The expression of the onlookers changed as they watched the scene. Seems like a plot twist was about to happen. Even though the Manager was respectful to Max, they could tell that he wouldn't be so crazy to the point where he would just give him the Fiery Ruby ring for free.It was impossible, if i
In a flash, two months had passed, and Amby and Ana, Max's foster mother had long returned to Atlanta.Thank you readers! At the moment, it was only the four people inside the Villa, coupled with the maids and others."Old man, we'll be going now." Max smiled as he looked at Albert."Alright take care." Albert nodded as he looked at Max and Michelle who were going out.Max smiled as he walked out of the Villa with Michelle, getting out of the Villa, they entered the car and drove out. This time, it was Max who was driving."Where are we headed?" Michelle sighed as he looked at Max.She wondered why the latter had told her to get dressed and that he was going to take her out today."You'll see." Max smiled as he stepped even harder on the accelerator of the car and it shot forward going faster than before. In no time, ten minutes passed, and Max pulled up in front of a jewelry shop. But then at that moment, there were roses all over the Jewelry shop, the red roses were laid in such a w
"Having reviewed all evidence presented and heard the arguments from both sides, the court finds that all necessary matters in this case have been sufficiently addressed." The Judge frowned as he read out slowly.Thank you readers!"I hereby sentence David Nightshade to a death sentence by hanging for the murder of seven doctors and their families. And Rebecca Nightshade to life imprisonment and hard labor for attempted murder.""And as for the assassin, he's also sentenced to death by hanging for the murder of seven doctors and their families." The judge passed his verdict as he hit his gavel on the table.Immediately after the judge passed his verdict, the policemen who were stationed in the court immediately moved forward, apprehended the criminals, and escorted them out of the courtroom."Ladies and gentlemen, please rise. The Honorable Judge Smith is now exiting the courtroom. The court is now dismissed." The bailiff said as he stood up.Immediately, everyone in the courtroom sto
The next day, Michelle smiled as she helped Max wear his clothes. Since one of his arms was broken, he needed someone to help him do things.Thank you, readers!"Alright, I'll also go and dress up, we should go early to the Court." Michelle smiled as she kissed Max's cheeks before walking out of the room."Young Master, shall we go?" Albert smiled as he walked into the room.He was in a good mood, as he couldn't wait to see the expression on the Nightshade family's face."Since we are going to be in the limelight today, let's delay our going a little bit." Max grinned."Besides, where's the assassin?" Max asked."We'll be taking him along with us to the court, he has a lot of testimony to do." Albert smiled."Is my mother and Amby going?""Yeah, they said they wanted to go," Albert replied."Alright, allow me to take something." Max turned around as he walked towards the drawer.Pushing it open, he fumbled around the drawer for about a minute or two before retrieving a flash drive.Af
In no time, it was already two days since the Darkwood family announced Max's death. They had been silent and didn't do or say anything. As for the consideration that the Young Master was murdered, they directly threw it out of the window. They didn't even allow the police to investigate the matter, they decided to let it go.At the moment, in the Darkwood family, Micheal was sitting on the Sofa while watching TV. It had been two days since Max had gone unconscious and yet, he was not awake.Dr. Nicholas had assured him that Max was just tired as such his body was taking this chance to fully recover."Master, the young master has woken up." Albert's excited voice came just as Micheal was lost in his thoughts.Immediately, Micheal discarded his thoughts and stood up following Albert to Max's room. They had taken Max away from the hospital since he wasn't in any form of coma or anything.Walking into Max's room, Micheal smiled as he stood at the door looking at Max who had sat up with t
"Aren't you supposed to be unable to move?" The assassin frowned as he looked at Max who had stood up."That's a question you should ask Hades." Max grinned and punched the assassin's abdomen, at the same time, he raised his good leg and kicked his groin. The assassin couldn't care less about the pain in his body and still tried to escape, but it was too late, he was already surrounded by the men Albert brought along with him. They rushed out of the car as soon as they could and immediately stopped. Nothing could happen to the Young Master."Young Master." Albert cried as he rushed towards Max.Looking at the state Max was, he could see that he was battered, and even his bones were broken.Thankfully, he had thought about this and had invited Dr. Nicholas to go with them. Besides, there was a lot of equipment that could be used to treat Max inside the car."Mr. Albert, I'm afraid we'll have to rush the young master to the hospital for proper treatment. He's poisoned." Dr. Nicholas fro
The assassin groaned in pain as he was not expecting Max's move. But being a professional, he knew he couldn't allow the latter to gain the upper hand by picking up the gun, it would be game over.Immediately, he kicked the gun with all his strength sending it into the fire burning not far from them. His kick was quite powerful, and that was what ended up happening.Max frowned seeing this, though he wasn't expecting this, he knew he could hold out until Albert and the others would arrive.Without a care in the world, he punched the assassin again, the latter groaned in pain as he moved back. But at the moment, the dirt in the assassin's eyes had already been cleared, now his eyesight had been restored."I didn't expect you to be this sharp." The man grinned as he pulled out a pocket knife.Max frowned seeing this, he knew he couldn't allow the other party to touch him with the knife as he didn't know if it was poisoned or not."Well,. it's just as you've guessed, the knife is poisono
Watching the assassination Scene, Rebecca, David, and Victor couldn't help but smile. Finally, they were going to get rid of their nemesis. As long as Max would get killed that night, they were sure that they would be able to win the fight. As for what the Darkwood family would do, they couldn't care less about that. There was no evidence whatsoever, besides, they had planned it rather carefully, it wouldn't be a surprise if no one was able to find a loophole in their action.Looking back at the screen, they watched as Max hid in the backseat of the car while shivering. There was no way he would be able to contact the Darkwood family. Even if he was able to, it would take too long before they arrived.According to her deduction, Max was surely going to die, there was no way out. He had to die even if he didn't want to.The assassin also stopped shooting after discovering that he couldn't see Max again. Knowing well that the latter had hidden inside the car, he decided to wait for five
