Her words made the three friends think about what mysteries they could unveil by being here, however John had another opinion as he said:
“I think you know more secrets than us, then why waste our time and not tell directly what you know?”
Gina smiled as she leaned back on her seat as she replied:
“Don’t you want some fun? What’s fun in feeding you secrets with a silver spoon? Besides if I told you what I know, you won’t believe me. Why don’t you take a look around you and tell me what you see?”
John smiled wryly as he said:
“Are you considering yourself our mentor or something?”
“Consider me so, until you know as much as I do.”
Her reply irritated John as he began to look around him like his two friends. They were sitting in a main street in this city, which was a mysterious city to them.
So, the first thing he tried to know was the name of the city, however even before he could hear anything useful, his eyes fell on the large posters that were spread all over the street.
It was hard to neglect these posters especially when many people were wearing them on their shirts or holding flags with what was on the posters.
There were two general posters there, and both were for two old men with sharp looks and fragrant deceiving smiles. John felt something was odd about these men, a feeling he usually had when he met his father’s superior at work.
“Are they competing for a political position?” he asked as he pointed to a flag held by a youth around his age.
“You guessed it right, they are both running for presidency in this country,” Gina replied with an amusing look.
That look irritated Laiyla, but not as much as Dan who felt some anger deep inside. He blames his friend for that, as John should make a space for him to interfere.
As John wasn’t aware of this, Dan decided to seize the chance himself, so he began to focus more on his surroundings. What Gina said was correct, however when he focused carefully he noticed something bigger going on.
“Wait a minute, one of them is chipped and the other isn’t,” Dan muttered softly as he said what he discovered with surprise.
“Bingo, you guessed it right. This election is different than others before, as the two running for it represented two different ideologies,” Gina replied with a big smile which encouraged Dan to say:
“So this isn’t just a simple election, it’s an election between the chipped and non-chipped humans. I guess we know who won at the end. By the way, when will these elections be done?”
Gina had a mysterious smile over her face as she calmly replied:
“It’s tomorrow morning.”
“What?!!”
This was the instant response of the three when they heard her words. Gina felt content with their reaction as she added:
“Yes, it's the same day the apocalypse happened. Isn’t it mysterious to know that the apocalypse happened on that day?”
Her question was the same that stirred a huge storm inside their minds. This wasn’t a simple coincidence, putting in mind that the mysterious hidden month and that dark year.
“What the hell happened here?” John softly muttered.
“Unfortunately I don’t know for sure what happened, and our time here isn’t enough to figure that out. I believe we should expect something went wrong in the election, which made one party to act aggressively against humans,” Gina said as she began to reveal part of her secrets.
Her words had different meanings, however there was only one meaning that was linked to everything.
“We can’t release judges like that without proof you know,” Laiyla was still upset by her playful attitude with her man, so she decided to reply coldly to her.
As a girl, Gina sensed her well-veiled aggressiveness towards her, and she vaguely understood why. But she didn’t care, after all they got only one day here and after that they would never speak with each other ever again.
In fact if not for what they did, she would never reveal her true personality to them and speak like that about her secrets.
“I know, that’s why I said I wouldn’t tell you anything I know. You have to figure things by yourselves, like that election,” Gina simply replied with her usual smile.
Laiyla was so irritated, but Dan stepped in to save the day as he said:
“I see we are moving towards the nearest place to get info, what about the library?”
“Libraries are for old events, not the recent ones. I say we go and check the television,” Gina said as she corrected what Dan said.
“Good, you two go and see the nearest television,” Laiyla said as she took advantage of the chance Dan created for both of them. John looked strangely to her, as he was still oblivious to the hidden battle going on here.
“No problem, but what are you two going to do?” Gina asked as she didn’t see what was going on.
“We will try to collect people's thoughts about this matter, who knows,” Laiyla replied with her plain smile, a smile John perfectly knew.
“Good, let’s depart then and regroup here after three hours, cool?” Dan said as he was the first to step up.
“Cool,” Laiyla replied as she was the second to stand after Dan while she grabbed John’s hand pulling him to stand beside her. John began to realize what was going on between the two girls, however all he did was winking to Dan wishing him luck.
“See you later then,” John said as he waved his other hand to the other couple while moving in haste steps to match Laiyla’s speed.
“You know you don’t need to be jealous of her like this, she is Dan’s love,” John said with a smile that pushed itself forcibly on her face.
“Jealous? Who? Me? From her? Pft, don’t make me laugh,” Laiyla nervously replied then she tried to lousy change the subject:
“See, there is a gathering of supporters of these two candidates, let’s go there and hear them out.”
John looked towards the direction she pointed to with her head before sighing. He knew she was a terrible liar, but if he didn’t want to anger the hornet nest then he should drop this topic, and that was what he did.
“Fine, let’s go there and hear them out,” he said.
Three hours flashed by in a blink of an eye. At the same spot, the four regrouped again with mixed feelings over their faces. They didn’t find an empty table so they chose to walk randomly as they started to exchange their knowledge.“Do you know which city we are at right now?” John started the talk with this question.
Gina understood why he was feeling like that as she said:“Yes I knew, but would you believe me if I told you so? You needed to know by yourselves, not to be taught and deny the truth.” This sound came loud and clear, and the most important thing was that it was directed to them. the four instantly turned to look at who spoke, to find a twenty-five, twenty-six years old lady standing at the entrance of that abandoned street. She wasn’t alone, but that wasn’t the big issue. What was so weird and irritating waThe 50: Post AI Apocalypse Sara
John’s eyes widened as he cursed those weak witted students and their stupidity. Now this mad lady was thinking they were the apocalypse, or at least related to it.“We aren’t here to do you any harm, we are here for a field trip, that’s all,” John tried to evade answering this topic as he tried to start ano
In the future, at the time when all the youths came from, there were a series of developments which started by the discovery of the new date of one of the three missions launched by the Drill. The discovery was made by the main CPU when it was undergoing regular check after the launch. “Simply put we are here, and our bodies are just invisible by being in another dimension. So that headache might be due to the interruption between this world and the quantum world,” Dan muttered while totally ignoring his friend like he wasn’t even here.“Yes, that’s the theory,” Sara said.
Sara then opened the door, entered the long corridor ahead of them as the four followed suit. Once they crossed the corridor, they started to meet many others along the way, where they just nodded in greeting to Sara, with an obviously stressful reaction over their faces. They were like they met a monster, someone out of their league. The slapping did the job as the four were knocked out of their trance feeling like a cold bucket of water was just poured over their faces. They stood up, in a hurry and panic, to look around in suspicion and doubt. However there was no one there except for Sara, who stood a couple of steps away from them, holding her hands together in a
