The Affinity For Darkness

Chapter 9: First Companion

"Dustin, what's the meaning of this?!" Fenrir fumed.

"I don't need to answer to you," he responded. "Just know that I'm talking over as Alpha, now die "

Dustin swung both of his claws at Fenrir and she grabbed both hands. She used all her strengths to push him back then she turned to her brother.

"Pacoon stayed close to me," Fenrir ordered.

Her white fur started to glow and discharged white lightning. She lifted Dustin into the air with all her strength and threw him into one of the huts. She was soon attacked by another member of her pack and she easily kicked and punched them away. One of them attacked her from and she grabbed him around his throat then slammed him against the ground.

"Have all of you lost your mind?" he yelled.

"We want change, a new Alpha...It is not right for a coward to lead us," he responded.

"I see what this is all about," Fenrir understood what was going on as she looked at the others. "You want to attack those humans after I forbid you? Only cowards would attack someone who is weaker than themselves and you Dustin is a coward."

Fenrir has been having problems with her pack. Some of their members wanted to attack humans and kill them for sport and prove to the other race that they are the most dominant species. Suddenly, Dustin broke the entire hut and charged right at her. She released the one in her hand and blocked his claws with her hand with both arms and the impact pushed her back ten meters. The wound on her arms healed instantly and Dustin found that annoying.

"That healing power is a nuisance," He exasperated. "It's exactly why you aren't fit to be a leader."

"Why? Are you jealous?" Fenrir chuckled arrogantly.

"I hate that arrogance of yours!" Dustin yelled.

"Then come at me," Fenrir responded.

"Raaaaaaaaaaaa!"

The two battle at supersonic speed exchange blows that surpass the speed of sound. Pacoon on looked at the shockwaves appearing all over the sky as Fenrir and Dustin's fist collided.

"Raaaaaaaaaaaa!"

Dustin swung his claws at Fenrir and she easily dodged. Moments later on the side of the cliff three large claw marks appeared. Fenrir chuckled arrogantly and flew toward him. She gave him a solid punch right in the chest and caused him to crash to the ground like a meteoroid.

Inside the 10 meter deep crater, Dustin coughed up blood. He lifted his head and looked at the fist print in his chest. Fenrir walked over to him with a smile on her face.

"Ready to give up now?" she asked with a smirk.

"Sister!"

Pacoon rushed over as fast as he could and Dustin saw an opportunity. He vanished as Fenrir was focused on her brother and reappeared behind Pacoon. Fenrir shuddered as Dustin smiled ominously and raised his right hand.

"Pacoon! Ruuuuuun!" she yelled.

Fenrir rushed to her brother as fast as she could and by the time Pacoon noticed it was too late.

"You may be able to regenerate from any wound but he won't Diiiiiie!"

Dustin stabbed him with all five fingers straight through Pacoon's upper body. Fenrir only felt her brother's blood on her cheeks. Her despair instantly turned into rage as she roared at the top of her lungs and she released a tremendous amount of white energy.

Dustin realized his mistake and took a step back out of fear. His eyes kept moving around as he look at something standing before him

"I see now," he shuddered. "This is why your father made you Alpha."

He looked up at the large white wolf standing before him. Its eyes were blazing red, its fur was glowing white and there was a crest on its forehead. Dustin couldn't stand the aura radiating off the wolf and ran the opposite direction. It was too late though the wolf raised it's right front paw and stepped on him.

"No, I don't want to die here!" he cried.

Dustin begged for his life and like a cockroach he was crushed under its foot. Fenrir crushed him without showing any remorse then she changed back into her human form. Fenrir returned to her brother's side as he was bled out and clung for dear life.

"Pacoon stay with me," she requested.

"I'm sorry sister," Pacoon apologized.

"No, there is no need to be sorry, I won't let anything happen to you," Fenrir said and she began to cry.

"Sister you're crying, you don't look good when you cry," He said as he wiped away the tears from his sister's eyes, then he smiled. "You look good when you smile, so smile okay."

"Shut up you idiot, why are you telling me to smile at a time like this?" Fenrir asked.

"I'm sorry I was a burden to you sister..."

"Why do you keep apologizing, you're not a burden to me. I should be the one who apologizes. I didn't keep my promise to father and I didn't protect you like an older sister."

Fenrir held her brother in her arms and he was slowly dying by the second. She couldn't do anything to save him and that was frustrating.

"Promise me you will have a good life and go on lots of adventures. You can travel with Lucifer, he's my hero and my friend, just like you sister, So promise me you won't be sad and alone when I'm gone."

Fenrir didn't have the heart to make such a promise to her brother and even when dying he still kept a smile on his face.

"Yes," she said. "I promise."

"Thank you My...Sister."

Pacoon hand fell to the ground motionless and Fenrir tried her best to suppress her emotions but couldn't. She roared at the top of her lungs and scared the animals in the woods. Her roaring was so powerful that it forced all the trees around her to bent. Moments later the pack of werewolves in the village turned to her as she walked past them with her dead brother in her hand. Nobody said anything or even moved as she passed. Fenrir then stopped at the gate and spoke to them without turning around.

"From this day forward I'm no longer alpha, go where you want, do what you want, I don't care if all of you die and if I see you again," she declared. Then turned and glared at them with murderous intent in her eyes. "I'll murder each and every one you."

The werewolves couldn't move under her murderous glare. Fenrir turned and continued to walk through the forest until she came to the campsite where Lucifer was located. He was resting in a tree when she arrived and with his eyes closed he turned and glance at her. Lucifer looked at Pacoon's dead body in her hand and wasn't stirred by it. Fenrir gently placed her dead brother on the ground.

"My brother died...In my arms—And in his last moments he spoke highly of you, saying that you were his hero because you saved him from those humans. He also asked me to make a promise to him that I would travel the world and go on lots of adventures with you...So Lucifer wherever you go I go," she said as she looked at Lucifer, her eyes filled with anger and determination.

Lucifer could see the same look he had before in her eyes.

"I refuse," he rejected her offer.

Fenrir was surprised by his response. He looked up at the moon with his eyes closed, his long two-colored hair flowing gently in the winds.

"This journey is mine and mine alone, I want to find the power necessary for me to return home with my own hands, I don't—"

Suddenly, Fenrir released a tremendous amount of power in rage.

"You think I give a fuck about my problems?!" she shouted. "My brother asked this of me and I'm going to fulfill it whether you like it or not even if it means I'll have to go back to your world with you."

Lucifer looked at her and felt her determination. He leaped off the tree branch and stood before her. Since she was taller than him he had to look up at her.

"Father said that this journey won't be easy, you might even die along the way, are you prepared for this?" he asked.

"Do I look like someone afraid of death?" she asked with a smirk.

It was a rhetorical question as she is standing face to face with him now. Lucifer slightly turned his head and looked at Pacoon's body.

"I didn't know your brother, I didn't mean to save him so I'm not a hero. However you and I lost something that will never be returned and for that it's clear what I must do so I'll accept your offer, Wherever I go you go," he accepted.

"Yeah so we are partners now?" Fenrir asked while she held out her paw to him and Lucifer responded with a nod before he shook her paw.

"Partner."

The two of them shake hands to seal the deal. That night Fenrir buried her brother right beside her mother and father on a cliff. Lucifer leaned against a tree silently watched as she bid her farewell to them and returned to his side.

"Okay,are you ready?" She asked.

Under the moonlight the two of them set out on their journey.
