One of the younger cops, barely out of the academy, threw his rifle to the ground and stumbled backward.

“Please—I don’t want any part of this! I’m just a rookie, damn it! I don’t even understand what’s going on—don’t lump me in with that psycho!”

His voice trembled as he backed away from the carnage.

Like a dam finally bursting, other officers followed suit, hands in the air, weapons clattering to the floor. No one wanted a ticket straight to hell alongside Bernard.

Bernard’s eyes darted around, his bravado wobbling.

“So, that’s it? You’re all turning on me?” He sneered, but his lip quivered. “You idiots really don’t understand the consequences of defying the police, do you?”

Kelly cocked her head, a lazy smirk twisting her lips.

“Oh, that’s cute—you think you still have any authority here?” She rolled her eyes. “Go ahead, throw your weight around. We’re shaking in our boots, right?”

She stepped right into Bernard’s face and slapped him hard, the crack echoing.

Henry Dupont’s voice cut through the room like the crack of a whip.“Raymond, don’t get ahead of yourself. If you want my father’s backing, there are two conditions. First, provide the miracle pill in a steady supply. Second, prove your loyalty—beyond a shadow of doubt. Understood?”Raymond nodded, swallowing his annoyance. “I understand, Mr. Dupont.”He needed the support of Chicago’s Dupont family— one of the five ruling powers operating under the Chicago Lords banner—to solidify his position. If the Kingstons destroyed themselves in Vancouver, the Duponts might just help him take it over. Before either man could speak again, a crash and frantic yells erupted from the garden.“What’s going on?” Raymond snapped, eyes narrowing.A bodyguard stumbled into the room, his face ashen. “Boss—someone’s broken in!”Raymond rose from his chair in a surge of rage. “Who is it? Need me to check or something?”Jasmine cracked an eye open, her mouth twisting into a smirk that sparkled with wicked amusement.“I’m letting you kiss me, genius,” she muttered. “Don’t tell me you’re too thickheaded to figure that out.”Alex’s jaw dropped. He was sure he looked like a landed fish gasping for air.“You’re messing with me,” he rasped, eyes darting away. “This can’t be good.”Jasmine rolled her eyes so hard he half expected to hear a clicking sound. “It’s not my fault you’re clueless. An hour later, Alex and Jasmine strolled through the grand double doors of Kingston Mansion as if it were a casual Sunday jaunt. At the center of the lavish sitting room sat Charles, flanked by Jessica (Jasmine’s mother) and an elegant old man with a posture so rigid it might crack. The old man’s eyes roved over everything with quiet calculation.Jasmine’s heartbeat thudded in her ears, but she managed a cold smile. “Mother, you summoned me. Spill.”Jessica’s expression was as frosty as the marble floors beneath them. “I want no family drama right now—only professionalism. Can you do that, Jasmine?”Jasmine turned to Charles and raised an eyebrow. “I assume you have some brilliance to share, big brother?”Charles steepled his fingers in theatrical calm, but his tone snapped like a whip.“Let’s skip the niceties. You and I both own shares of Kingston Pharmaceuticals, but the bulk belongs to Mother’s side of the family. They’ve appointed me to evaluate your… performance.” His smugness d

Charles made it painfully clear he was out for blood this time, determined to humiliate Alex in front of the entire Kingston family. He leaned back in his chair, sneering as though he owned the room.“So, genius,” Alex drawled sarcastically.“You’re telling me this Lydia—the one who tried to murder Jasmine and backstab Jasmine Kingstons—is the same woman you wanted me to just let walk free? Are you off your meds, or do you have a permanent vacancy sign dangling in that empty head of yours?”Charles’s face twitched, eyes glinting with dangerous rage.“How dare you question me? Even if she’s a traitor, Lydia was one of ours. Who gave you the right to kill her?”“The Kingstons handle Kingston business, not some no-name punk like you! Ever think of choosing your battles correctly before butting into our family affairs?”Alex scoffed, a sharp laugh slicing through the tense air.“Oh, sure. Charles slammed his palms on the gleaming marble table so hard that everyone in the room flinched. He fixed Alex with a scornful glare, lips twisted into a sneer that practically reeked of condescension.“Cut the crap!” he thundered, his tone rolling through the air like distant thunder.“Don’t you dare compare your lowly peasant life to mine. Seriously, take a good look at yourself in the mirror—if you can stand the sight.”Alex leaned back against his chair, crossing his arms with the kind of ease that only comes from complete self-confidence.“You always this full of hot air, Charles? If you’re too much of a coward to accept my challenge, just get on your knees, admit you’re a spineless poser, and apologize with one of your arms. Maybe I’ll find it in my heart to forgive your sorry behind.”Charles’s face went red as a brick, anger roaring inside him.“You—” he sputtered, seething so hard he could barely spit the words out.For a moment, he seemed torn.As the wealthy heir to the K

Alex watched with icy indifference as Owen’s bodyguards surged forward and snatched the ornate box from his hand. He let them have it—this once.“You ignorant little quack,” Owen spat venomously, his sneer sharp enough to slice through steel."Heaven Root isn't just some miracle herb—it’s the ultimate treasure for warriors like us. You, a pathetic excuse for a doctor, couldn’t appreciate its worth even if it bit you in the ass!"Smugly, Owen slapped the box with contemptuous triumph.“Uncle Jericho’s already handed this over to me. It’s mine now, doctor boy.”Instead of exploding into fury, Alex’s lips twisted into a chilling, knife-edged smile directed straight at Jericho Kane.“Fool me once—shame on you. Twice—shame on me. But thrice? Then I'm the goddamn fool.”He strode past Jericho, leaning in close enough to whisper venomous words straight into his trembling ear.“If that Heaven Root isn't in my hand before I leave this cursed mansion, don't blame me when your bloodline ends thr

Any pain or discomfort?” Jericho’s voice cracked, disbelief and cautious joy battling inside him.Lidia stood trembling beside him, her eyes wide and glistening.Neither had dared to dream of a miracle—yet now one stood defiantly before them.“Dad… Mom… this is crazy. I don't feel weak anymore! It's gone!” Bella touched herself frantically, amazement painting her face. Her heart thumped loudly, stronger and more alive than she'd ever known.“Oh, thank heavens! You really do need help…and maybe I’m the only one who can provide it.”Bella’s heart fluttered, her breath caught in her throat, and before she could think twice, the words just tumbled out:“I believe in you.”Alex blinked, stunned. “…What?”Bella’s eyes widened. “I-I mean—yes! I… I have a heart condition,” she stammered, her cheeks turning a soft pink, like the sky before sunrise.“And I think… only you can fix it.”There was a long, awkward pause. Then, trying to recover, she waved her hands a little too fast.“N-not like that!
