Another crime?

Augustina was waiting outside the sheriff's office with Rindley while her husband talked to the officer.

She was beyond nervous.

'I knew this girl was going to be trouble after all!' she thought irritably. Rindley could see that his mother was worried, as her knees were shaking and Augustina had a bad habit when she was like that: she bit the skin around her fingernails. Something she would certainly reproach her children for, but she did it subconsciously when she was VERY nervous.

He wondered why she was like this. The father had mentioned that there was a possibility that they had found Lucy's body, which Rindley knew was not true. Augustina never seemed to have much affection for Lucy, and Rindley found that strange. The girl was always good, sweet, kind, polite. Besides, wouldn't it be more normal for a mother to want to pamper her precious daughter?
