Rindley was sitting across from the deputy, thoughtful. He already expected that, because he wasn't so stupid as to never have suspected.

"So, you really didn't know about that?"

“No, Deputy Sanders. I really didn't know. During my whole life I thought about it, after all, let's say that our mother was not the most affectionate with Lucy and I asked myself why.” Rindley said sadly, but he smiled. “Lucy is not her daughter. And she knows it very well.”

The deputy nodded in agreement. He expected this. And he was glad to know that at least one person in the family didn't look rotten. The biological child wasn't as bad as the parents.

“What will happen, sir?” Rindley asked. “I never raised the question with Lucy. She suffered a lot from Mom's indifference, and I honestly didn't know if that could be a good thing or not for her to know at this point.”

“I'll talk to her. It's my job.” He said. “I will look into the hospital matter.”

“Child theft.” Rindley spoke. It wasn't a question.
