The past

“Rindley, come on! It’s lunch time!” Augustina had called her beloved son, who had been playing with Lucy, outside.

“Come, sis, it’s time for us to eat,” the little boy had said, already up and offering a hand to Lucy, while the other one had been dusting off his clothes.

Lucy had been a very shy girl, therefore she’d been unsure whether she’d been also invited to eat, since her mother had not called her. She’d said ‘Rindley’, not ‘kids’.

“I… must I go?” shed asked her brother in a small voice.

“Of course, Lu. How silly!” he had said and held her hand, smiling at his sister.

“She didn’t call my name,” Lucy had insisted. Last time Augustina had called Rindley and Lucy had followed him, she’d been scolded and punished.

Rindley had crouched in front of the little blonde girl and patted her head.

“Lu, you are my sister. If I go to eat, you also will go to eat. We are twins, remember?”
