On the borders of Virelia, a part of North City designated solely to the army, five thousand troops clad in their dark brown army uniform lined up from the beginning of the 120 acres of land to the end.
They stood at ease, with their nose held high up in the air and their eyes fixed determinedly ahead on them. Standing in front of them with his eyes fixed on a book was a tall and lanky man clad in a black t-shirt and military pant who looked to be in his late 20s. The neatly trimmed stubble close to his skin makes him appear rugged, yet polished looked majestic with an unbeatable air of authority swelling around him. A man in the same military clothes as the troops soon hurried over to his side and stretched an envelope towards him, his face lowered to the ground in a bow. “Supreme Commander, someone sent you this six hours ago.” Wade Wilmer didn’t pause what he was reading. After a while, he raised his eyes to look at the man and passed along the book he had been reading before collecting the letter. His eyes, which had been devoid of emotions just a second again, was instantly filled with killing intent when he read the content of the later. He crumpled the piece of paper and looked up, barely managing to contain his rage, “Get the helicopter ready, General Hayes.” Jordan Hayes immediately saluted and rushed off to do as instructed. Shortly after, Wade joined him in the helicopter. As he activated the fuel pumps and turned on the helicopter, Jordan turned to inquire, “Where to, Supreme Commader?” “Maple Hotel in Waverly.” Wade Wilmer replied stoically, fastening the seatbelt around him. Maple Hotel in Waverly, the capital of North City. The hotel was a popular and expensive place owned solely by the government and was never loaned to anyone for any occasion. Despite this, it was always bustling with customers. But today, not only was an engagement party held in it, but there was also an auction which was about to begin. Only the wealthy and influential were invited and it was closed off to the rest of the world whom they felt weren’t deserving of being here. In the midst of the room, a man in a royal blue tuxedo was surrounded by three men who kept congratulating him for his new position as head of his family. “Congratulations on becoming the head of your family and on your engagement, Mr. Wilmer. If you need anything in the future, our Reed family will be glad to help you out.” “Not only are you the head of one of the most prestigious families in North City, but you’re also getting married to the first daughter of the Hutton family. Talk about a power couple.” “I’m a little envious. The Wilmer family and the Huttons will be unstoppable after this marriage. It’ll take decades, if not a century, for any family to catch up.” Gabriel Wilmer grinned from ear-to-ear at their sweet words. His cheeks had taken on a brighter shade of red, and his eyes were already starting to droop. If the people around him didn’t know who he was, they might’ve assumed his flushed cheeks were due to the wide grin he had from grinning at all the praises. As a waiter was about to walk past him, he pulled him back by the shirt and grabbed the rest of the shots on the tray. The waiter was a little stunned before he smiled awkwardly and bowed slightly to him before hurrying away. The expressions of the men surrounding him changed as well, but when he glanced at them, it returned back to normal and they pretended to laugh loudly. “It’s a day you should be happy and allowed to do whatever you want. So don’t feel bad. If you want, you can even take mine.” The man had only offered his glass as courtesy, but to everyone’s greatest surprise, Gabriel hurriedly drowned the shots he had taken from the waiter and reached for it. It was at this moment that a woman in a red, long gown with strapless hands walked towards them and flashed them an apologetic smile. “Forgive Gabriel. He’s actually grieving after just losing his parents. That’s why he’s been grinning non-stop and drinking whatever he lays his eyes on.” The men returned her smile and pretended to nod in understanding. “Really? I thought it was strange to see him stuff himself with this much alcohol on a day like this.” “If that won’t be enough for you, you can have mine too. Or would you like me to bring you more drinks?” Anna Hutton pressed her lips tightly together and hid the embarrassment in her eyes when she saw Gabriel dozing off in the middle of the conversation. Her embarrassment was short-lived as the auctioneer climbed the stage to begin the auction. “Everyone, the auction has begun. Please take your seats.” Everyone scurried off to their seats while Gabriel Wilmer’s assistant walked up to him with a bottle of water. After gulping it down, Gabriel grew a little sober and walked to take his seat as well. The auction kicked off immediately. Bids were made and things were bought before the spotlight fell on the last auction of the day. “The special item for the day isn’t an expensive rare wine, nor a carefully crafted necklace made of diamond, but the ethereal Katherine Wilmer!” The curtains suddenly fell off to reveal a woman in skimpy clothes locked inside a dog cage. The auctioneer went on to speak ever so enthusiastically, “Any man who buys her, will not just take her home, but will be buying their way into the prestigious Wilmer family!” A ripple of excitement went through the crowd as countless men, both young and old, single and married, instantly sat and fed their eyes on her exposed skin. Her clothes were barely long enough to cover her private parts, let alone the rest of her skin, so their eyes had a lot to take in. Seeing the anticipation in their eyes, Anna Hutton smiled and crossed her leg on top the other, then leaned back on her seat. Gabriel Wilmer sat beside her without an iota of emotion as he stared at Ketherine Wilmer whose bright eyes were anxiously looking around. While the excitement for Katherine continued soaring, the auctioneer smacked his lips together and continued. “The starting bid for her is 2 million dollars.” As soon as the words left his mouth mouth, someone raised it. “2 million and one.” “2 million, five
The guests erupted in rage and glared hard at the people who had just stopped them from almost finding out the identity of the bidder. “Who are these brats? Why didn’t the guards outside stop them from coming in?” “They’re in military clothes, yet they do not know where they’re supposed to be and where they shouldn’t. What have they been learning all these years in the army!” “Someone hurry up and call security to throw them out. Once this is over, the hotel should write to the government to have these two immediately removed from the army!” Wade couldn’t be bothered by them and just walked towards the stage, Jordan following after him as he glared back at the guests. Everyone in attendance were businessmen and businesswomen. Hence, no matter how angry they were with them, none could muster the courage to step in front of them for fear they’d get beaten up. Wade got to be stage and glanced at the auctioneer coldly. The man felt a chill run down his spine and subconsciously s
As soon as he heard that, Julian Powell, Gabriel Wilmer’s assistant, suddenly felt a strong attachment to life and didn’t dare to take a step forward. Maybe it was the scary resting face the man with Wade had on or the authority that he knew came with the military uniform he had on. The corners of Gabriel’s lips spasmed in anger. “What are you doing? Do you think you can now talk back to me just because you’re putting on a military uniform?” Wade remained upright, his back as straight as a ruler as he let out a faint, but chilly smile. “If you already know, why do you still ask? Did you become a fool when I left?” Gabriel and everyone else was totally taken aback by his direct insult. Many of them in this room didn’t even know the Wilmer family had two sons. When they realized this person who crashed the auction had the last name Wilmer, they were confused. But they quickly realized the reason not many people knew of his existence was obviously because he was his older brothe
Having the military men in the room with him, Gabriel found his confidence again and threw Wade a cold glance. “It’s a good thing you’re here, lieutenant. We were just about to call regarding these two weasels who do not know their place.” “I don’t know which division they belong to, but since every soldier in North City is under the Supreme Commander, I suggest you report them to him as soon as possible.” “If news gets out that there are insolent people like them around, the people will get agitated and our country’s enemies will use it to their advantage.”He spoke so calmly and convincingly that the guests couldn’t help nodding their heads in agreement. After all, Wade and Jordan had crashed the auction just when they were about to find out the identity of someone important. They wouldn’t let that slide since it came from lowlife punks like them. Anna Hutton sat down and glanced at the time on her wristwatch warily. “Before you report them to the Supreme Commander, you shou
Gabriel Wilmer was slightly taken aback by the sudden question. However, the disbelief at being figured out disappeared the very next second. So when the guests glanced at him, they saw his signature frown on his face and shook their heads in disbelief. A proud man like him would never stoop so low. These brother of his would say anything now that he was driven into a corner. “What is this punk talking about? Who in North City doesn’t know the Supreme Commander dines on the same table as Gabriel Wilmer and the four great families?” “If he doesn’t have what to say, why does he keep talking!” “Aren’t they more of them, Mr. Wilmer? Hurry up and call them so they can put this loser in his place!” “Just because he’s putting on that uniform, he thinks he can look down on the rest of us.” Seeing how valiantly they were all defending him, Gabriel flashed Wade a triumphant smile and casually slipped his hands into his pockets. “These are just a few of the men the Supreme Commander
Gabriel rolled up his sleeves and took on a fighting stance. Seeing this, Wade pressed his lips into a thin line and an impatient glint flashed past his eyes. He was only talking this much time because the person in question was his brother. Had it been another person, he would’ve long ordered Jordan to do something about him. He was just about to say something when Anna Hutton strolled over to Gabriel’s side and gently massaged his shoulder. “Your little brother has always been like this. While he does need to be taught a lesson for disrespecting you in public, there’s no need to do it in front of so many people.” “This is a Wilmer family problem. It should be resolved in the Wilmer family, so stop this and go home to sort yourselves out.” Gabriel scoffed lightly and immediately moved away from her, saying with a straight face, “He disrespected me in public. He should be taught a lesson in public. Otherwise, how will he learn not to be rude and talk back to his elders?” The f
Inside the playground, a group of three boys who all looked to be around 8 to 9 years circled a boy of the 6 years. His eyes flickered from one face to the other, but there was no hint of fear in his eyes. “Didn’t we tell you not to come here again? My mommy says trash like you shouldn’t play with people like us.” “My mommy says he doesn’t have a father. He’s a bastard. Bastards shouldn’t play in the same place as us.” “Let’s just beat him to a pulp. Next time, he will think twice before coming here.” “What if he comes again?” “What do you think? If he comes again, we’d beat him again until he stops coming here. Now stop asking me so many questions and grab him.” Two of the boys hurriedly rushed over and held him down. As they did, the 6-year-old boy kicked and struggled to get away from them. The third boy smacked him hard across the face and snorted loudly. “Hey, what do you think you’re doing? Weren’t you taught well at home? Oh, of course. You don’t have a father. How c
Everyone turned their heads to see a man in military uniform walking towards them with a girl clinging tightly by his side. When they saw her, the parents were first taken aback before one of them asked in fright. “Is that your daughter? Are these two your children?” Wade glanced at the boy being bullied. He had a nose bleed and the corners of his lips had split open. Most importantly, his face was beet red from the constant slaps he had received. Wade tore his eyes away from him and towards the mothers as he replied, “No.”Hearing him, they released a breathe they didn’t know they had been holding and quickly waved him aside. “Then this has nothing to do with you. In fact, aren’t you in the military? The military were put in place to protect citizens of North City.” “My son and his friends are been attacked by this punk right here. He waved that pipe in their faces. Had they not moved away when they did, he would’ve scratched them!” “Go ahead and take him. Beat him up for try
