Chapter 4

As soon as he heard that, Julian Powell, Gabriel Wilmer’s assistant, suddenly felt a strong attachment to life and didn’t dare to take a step forward.

Maybe it was the scary resting face the man with Wade had on or the authority that he knew came with the military uniform he had on.

The corners of Gabriel’s lips spasmed in anger.

“What are you doing? Do you think you can now talk back to me just because you’re putting on a military uniform?”

Wade remained upright, his back as straight as a ruler as he let out a faint, but chilly smile.

“If you already know, why do you still ask? Did you become a fool when I left?”

Gabriel and everyone else was totally taken aback by his direct insult.

Many of them in this room didn’t even know the Wilmer family had two sons.

When they realized this person who crashed the auction had the last name Wilmer, they were confused.

But they quickly realized the reason not many people knew of his existence was obviously because he was his older brother’s lackey.

It was probably because Gabriel had long suppressed him from a young age and made him completely obedient to him.

Someone like that would remain out of the public’s eyes and was good as dead if his brother said so.

Now all over a sudden, that same person was challenging his brother?

Anna Hutton came up from behind Gabriel, a tight frown on her face as she stared at Wade.

“Is that the way to talk to someone who helped you in the past? Have you forgotten how you almost dragged down the Wilmer family and the Hutton family?”

“Had your brother not stepped in and vouched for you when he did, you would’ve been kicked out of the Wilmer family, humiliated and penniless.”

“Outside, you would’ve been trampled to death by those who served and buttered up to you all their life. The life you have now, your brother made it possible. So show him some respect!”

“Ha!” A cold laughter escaped Wade’s lungs as soon as she finished.

Seven years ago, he had passed out after having drinks with his brother and Anna Hutton, who was his then fiancée.

But when he woke up in bed the next morning after spending the night with Anna, he realized the woman lying next to him was an unfamiliar woman.

Before he could wrap his head around what was happening, paparazzi and news reporters suddenly barged into their room, taking photos and recording everything. They published everything without bothering to blur out their faces.

Anna Hutton claimed to have gone home heart-broken after seeing Wade cuddling a strange woman in his arms.

While Gabriel suddenly had a memory loss. He claimed he was too drunk to remember anything and everyone else who drank with them that night, said they all had businesses to attend to and didn’t know.

In the end, the Wilmer family lost half of their assets. The Hutton family dissolved the engagement between their families and the public began boycotting the conpanies under Wilmers.

Gabriel then suggested for him to spend the next few years in the military until the matter died down.

But as soon as he got into the army and for the next two years, Wade realized he couldn’t communicate with the outside world.

No matter what he did, he just couldn’t reach them.

At the end of his second year while fighting with his superiors, just before one of them died in battle, he was told the reason he couldn’t communicate with anyone outside was because the Wilmer family along with the Hutton family had joined hands with the four great families to make sure of that.

Furthermore, they had consistently placed him on the forefront of the battle because they were influenced to do so in hopes that he would die.

After that day, Wade vowed to get faster, stronger, more powerful so he could trample down on anyone and everyone who dared to intimidate him.

After he became Supreme General, it didn’t take him long to find out everything he faced back then was all planned and executed by his brother and then fiancée to drive him into the army.

As he recounted what happened in the past, Wade’s eyes grew cold.

“The life I have now is because of him? Anna Hutton, say another foul lie and I’ll make sure to rip your mouth right out!”

Anna Hutton frowned slightly when her heart missed a beat in fear.

She clenched her jaw tightly and tried to pry her mouth open to retort, but all she got was her teeth clattering against each other.

She was scared. Scared?

How could this weasel who couldn’t even look her in the eyes back then scare her?

He might’ve gone to the army, but it was only for a few years. He was still the same boy she knew seven years ago. Only taller with manly looking features.

She was clearly imagining things.

Yet, despite how hard she tried to convince herself that she wasn’t scared of him, his threat kept ringing in her head so much that she couldn’t bring herself to any anything.

Having successfully scared them off, Wade proceeded to walk towards the exit.

However, he was just a a few meters away from the door when it was opened from the outside and some men in military uniform stepped in.

They were dressed in the same army uniform as Jordan Hayes.

The guests couldn’t help gasping in disbelief when they noticed the two fire symbols on the breast pocket of the man in front of the group of six.

“Isn’t that the fire symbol?”

“Indeed, it is. But what are soldiers under the Supreme Commander doing here?”

“Did the Wilmer and Sutton family happen to send an invite to the Supreme Commander? Could it be he couldn’t make it and sent his subordinates instead?”
