Chapter 3

The guests erupted in rage and glared hard at the people who had just stopped them from almost finding out the identity of the bidder.

“Who are these brats? Why didn’t the guards outside stop them from coming in?”

“They’re in military clothes, yet they do not know where they’re supposed to be and where they shouldn’t. What have they been learning all these years in the army!”

“Someone hurry up and call security to throw them out. Once this is over, the hotel should write to the government to have these two immediately removed from the army!”

Wade couldn’t be bothered by them and just walked towards the stage, Jordan following after him as he glared back at the guests.

Everyone in attendance were businessmen and businesswomen. Hence, no matter how angry they were with them, none could muster the courage to step in front of them for fear they’d get beaten up.

Wade got to be stage and glanced at the auctioneer coldly.

The man felt a chill run down his spine and subconsciously stepped backward in fear.

“Open it. Open the cage.”

Wade didn’t shout, but his chilly voice was enough to force the man to do as he said.

But because he was trembling all over in fear, he found it difficult to stick in the key in the keyhole.

“Hey, what do you think you’re doing!” Gabriel Wilmer shot up from his seat and yelled at the auctioneer.

He flinched fearfully and the key slipped through his fingers.

Wade slowly bent over and picked up the key. Then proceeded to unlock the cage.

The woman inside stared at him daringly before she froze, slowly taking in his features.

“W-Wade? Is it really you? You’re still alive and even got my letter?” She stuttered in disbelief and slowly reached out to touch his face.

Wade glanced down at her and a flicker of emotion flashed past his eyes as he nodded.

“Little sister, forgive me for not coming earlier. I didn’t think such a thing would happen. While others have a human for a brother, you ended up having a dog for one.”

Katherine Wilmer promptly wrapped her arms around him and bawled loudly into the side of his neck.

“Thank you for coming! Thank you so much for being alive! When all those years went by without me getting a response from you, I thought you were dead. I thought you were long dead!”

Wade’s eyes sunk and he felt even more guilty.

He didn’t think such a thing would happen, so he didn’t bother knowing what was happening outside the Virelia.

At the same time, his eyes suddenly grew cold.

Letters? She had sent him letters?

Over the course of the seven years he stayed in the army, he never received a single letter from the outside world. Which was why he assumed everything was going well.

But if she sent him letters and they never got to him, someone must’ve been behind it.

Behind them, Gabriel Wilmer’s darkened as her sobs echoed throughout the room.

His little brother who looked so childish even at the big age of 23 when he was sent off to the army had changed so much.

He had grown so much taller and thinner with his manly features becoming prominent that he didn’t recognize him at first until Katherine called out his name.

He gritted his teeth in anger as he watched the scene in front of him. But he was the head of the Wilmer family and as such, knew how to control his emotions.

He tried to sound calm as he clicked his tongue in disappointment.

“You’re not dead yet? What a pain. I made sure to send you to the front lines during battles, how is it that you’re still alive and kicking?”

“You’re not even missing a limb or an arm. Not even a scar on your face. Did they take me as a joke despite the orders I gave them?”

Wade took Katherine into his arms and began walking towards the door.

He didn’t spare Gabriel a glance as he spat out in reply, “You are a joke, Gabriel.”

“Only a big joke would let the four great families push him around into auctioning off his sister.”

Gabriel Wilmer sauntered out from his seat to block Wade’s path, his eyes filled with intense rage.

“A big joke? I see spending a few years in the army has given you the ability to talk back to me. Yoy better hold your tongue or I’d assume you no longer have any need for it!”

“And so what if I decided to auction off that bag of meat and bones in your arms? She’s of no use to the Wilmer family and she’ll never be. She talks back at me and suddenly forgets her place in this family.”

“Now you managed to remain alive for this long in the army, you should’ve just remained there instead of rushing back here to end your life.”

“Had you remained there, you would’ve died an honorable death as a soldier and remained forgotten by the rest of the world, but now you’ll die the death of a dog and will be known as such to the rest of the world.”

He stopped talking and suddenly stepped to the side, clasping his hands firmly behind him as he called out to someone.

“Julian, crush his skull!”

The words had just rolled off his tongue when Wade also gave Jordan an order.

“Jordan, if this Julian moves an inch, cripple him!”
