Chapter 3

Pant! Pant! Pant!

Chris collasped on the bed, sweating profusely as his chest heaved.

Although it had been difficult, he was able to sucessfully finish the daily quest.

-[Host has completed daily quest; Daily Fitness]

-[Host has recieved quest rewards; +3 exp. +1 feauture points. $100]

Chris was dumbfounded when he recieved these notifications from the system. A hundred bucks! for just a mere excersise?

He couldn't help but envisione the scene of earning seven hundred bucks a week and two thousand eight hundred a month!

Back when he lived with the Cortez, his personal savings weren't even up to five hundred bucks.

Most of the money he transacted with, belonged to Cindy.

 Speaking of the Cortez..

"Why hasn't any of them come to visit me? surely the doctor must have informed them of my wake up from coma?" Theo wondered.

How could he know that the Cortez family has literally given up on him?

Glancing at the bed side clock that read '6:40pm' he yawned, allowing sleep to wash him away.

The next day arrived quite faster than Chris thought it would. Thanks to the constant 'wake up' reminders from the system, his beauty sleep got interrupted.

Jumping out of bed, he proceeded to lock the door then began a series of squats, push ups and skipping. Two hours later, he completed the daily quest and recieved the rewards.

Surprisingly, he recieved a +1 strength stat.

Wiping off the sweat on his body, he unlocked the bed and began to walk down the winding passageway in his hospital uniform.

He exited the hospital without a hitch, and flagged down a taxi.

"Where to?" the taxi man who was a middle aged lean guy wearing faded baseball cap asked.

However, the gaze he threw at Chris was strange. Why was this dude still in a hospital wear? wasn't he already discharged or something?

"Take me to the nearest resturant" Chris ignored the strange gaze as he boarded the taxi.

"It will cost you four dollars"

"Ait. Step on it"

The taxi driver nodded, starting the ignition as the vehicle roared into life and hit the road.

Throughout the journey, Chris was lost in thoughts seemingly contemplating the future.

He was supposed to be a cripple, however the system gave him a second chance. He couldn't just return back to the Cortez family and say 'hey. I was just faking my paralysis alright? look! I'm perfectly okay'

It would be extremely weird. So, he decided to become independent. To be a man of his own, not the Cortez family useless live-in-son-in-law.

The taxi arrived at it's destination. Chris stepped down and paid the taxi man his wages, from the crumpled bits of ten dollar bills in his pants pocket underneath the hospital robe.

Chris stared towards the resturant building ahed of him.

 Coaster Food Villa.

It was a popular resturant and quite large too, with four burly bouncers starring as guards at thd entrance.

"What do you want?" one of the four bouncers frowned as Chris attempted to get it.

"What? can't i enter? is this how you treat customers?" Chris pursed his lips.

"Customer? this place isn't for any random Tom, Dick and Harry" the third bouncer sneered.

As for the second bouncer, he grabbed Chris by the collar with his meaty palms, effortlessly lifting him off the ground.

"Why don't you take a look at yourself? you look like someone who just ran out of an asylum, hm?"

The other bouncers jeered. They wholly looked down on Chris due to his dressing. Infact, they believed he was a lunatic trying to stir trouble.

Wham!

The second Bouncer tossed Chris away like a ragged doll. Thankfully due to his 'extraordinary' bones, he didn't feel much pain when he crashed roughly on the ground.

Picking himself up, he threw an angry glare at the three Bouncers.

"One day, you are going to regret it!"

Saying these words, he bounded off. As for the Bouncers, they burst into a fit of mocking laughter, treating Chris words as fart.

After wandering for a bit, Chris stopped at a snack store and bought a pack of fries. Just as he was about to pay up, he suddenly recalled something.

He didn't even have a bank account!

"Sir, please pay up already" the lady responsible for payment behind the counter frowned upon noticing that Chris was delaying.

"I.. i didn't bring my card" Chris face heated up in embarrassment.

Geez! he felt like burying himself ten feets in the ground.

The female cashier smirked coldly. This wasn't her first encounter with fraudulent customers cut from the same coat as this man.

"You bought a medium sized pack of chips and one bottle of yoghurt right? since you don't have money to pay, it is only right that you return them"

Chris palm went sweaty. Return them? how could he when they were already in his stomach.

"You ate them? and you don't have money to pay?!" the cashier yelled at Chris, garnering the attention of the customers in the store.

"Excuse me? is there any problem?" a young lady in her early twenties walked over to the counter.

She had aurburn hair, medium sized peaks sticking out of her chest, moderate sized hips and a beautiful face. Her red lips had a kind of allure that pulled the strings of most males to have a taste of them.

Judging from her stylish dressing, she must have a wealthy background. The female cashier instantly switched to a more respectful tone.

 "Hello ma"

"Is there any problem? i heard your yells. Prehaps is this guy trying to molest you?" the beautiful lady took a side glance at Chris.

"It's nothing" Chris waved his hands.

"Nothing? you bought two items, ate them and refuse to pay. You call that nothing?" the female cashier's nose flarred.

"I forgot my card at home that's all" Chris laughed akwardly.

But the female cashier wasn't buying this excuse. Just as she was about to humilate Chris more-

"How much is he owing you?" the beautifuChris was shellshocked, and so was the female cashier.

"Y-you want to pay for him?" she felt like she misheard. Someone was this generous?

"Sure, how much does he owe you?" the pretty lady smiled.

 "Fifteen dollars"

Chris watched with a complicated expression as the strange lady paid his bills. A lady he didn't even know!

This hurt his manly pride. Plus the worst of it was.. HE HAD THE MONEY!

After getting the bills settled, the pretty smiled at Chris as she made for the exit.

 "Follow me please"

Although curious, Chris tagged along. They arrived outside and the lady walked towards a flashy looking honda, leaning against it.

"Thank you for the help back there" Chris forced out a smile.

"Hm. Don't mention it. It was just fifteen dollars" the pretty lady was dismissive.

"But that almost got me into trouble" Chris mumbled.

"That's because that cashier was a narrow minded crook" the pretty lady laughed.

"Hehe. I didn't catch your name benefactor?" Chris grinned..

"Annabeth. But you can just call me Anne"

"Prehaps would you tolerate me having your digits? we could grab a drink or two some other time as a token of appreciation?" Chris smiled.

"Ohoho. I just hope you won't leave me to the lurch when it's time to pay the bills, hm?" Anne joked.

"Actually, it was a mistake on my part. I forgot my wallet" Chris tried to estricate himself from the akward situation.

"It's obvious" Anne replied sarcastically, causing both of them to burst into a fit of laughter.

"Well, mind if i give you a ride?" Anne patted the bonnet of the Honda.

"Nah. I don't live that far off" how could Chris shamelessly accept.

She paid for his lunch and that was shameful enough. He couldn't go about freeloading anymore. The Cortez family taught him a big lesson.

Due to his poor backgrounds, he was always the subject of mockery in the family. Only when one had money and power could he elicit respect.

Thankfully, he had the Amazing man system to aid him climb to the top.

When Cindy got to the hospital, she was immediately informed about Chris mysterious departure.

"What do you mean my husband left just like that huh? is the security in this hospital this lax?" Cindy was on tentherhooks.

If she couldn't find Chris, how could she get him to sign the divorce paper. Divorcing Chris was an order from the family patriach.

An order she couldn't risk disobeying. The slightest punishment was deduction in her income and the worst was disownment.

Anxious, she had no choice but to call her aunt Lorraine.

"Have you gotten that cripple to sign the divorce papers? hope he didn't make things difficult for you?" Lorraine's voice rang from the other end.

"Well, that's the problem. I can't seem to find Chris. The hospital claims he left"

"Left. Can a cripple walk? spare me that nonsense" Lorraine huffed.

"But that's what the hospital keeps telling me" Cindy flaired her hands helplessly.

 Lorraine went silent.

"Aunty, are you there?"

"Actually it isn't such a bad thing" Lorraine suddenly said.

"That bastard mysteriously vanishing isn't that bad. At least he's been ridden off us for good"

"But how do we get his signature for a divorce?" this was the issue that bothered Cindy the most.

"Think with your brains child. If worst comes to the worst we might just forge a fake signature"
