Chapter 6

The next day, Chris was surprised to see a cop at the door early in the morning.

The young cop was holding onto a package.

 "Yes?" Chris arched his brows.

"Detective Warren asked that i deliver this to you" the cop handed the package he was holding, over to Chris.

"Oh. It must be my uniform. It came quite quick huh?" Chris instantly knew what was within the package.

"Thank you" he nodded at the cop then closed the door. He started doing his daily fitness.

He rounded it up quickly, had a swift breakfast and hurried to open the package. Just as he anticipated, it was his police uniform.

Donning it on, he checked himself out through the standing mirror.

"I look less bony than before and my eyes are sterner, compared to my dull eyes in the past" he mumbled to himself.

Although these were minute changes, he knew his body quite well. Ever since he got the system, a lot of things changed.

He finally became independent. Became braver. Now he's gotten a new job!

-[Ding! Host has completed the weekly quest; Join the Police]

-[Host has recieved +15 feauture points]

-[Host has unlocked an item kit: Baron Revolver]

-[Host has received $5,000]

'Seems like only after donning the police force would the quest be tagged as complete.

Curious, he checked on the weaponry tab.

-[WEAPONRY]

-Items (1)

1. Baron Revolver: (an advanced type of revolver. Bullets: 500. Shooting range: 15 metres max. Bullet damage: 50 dmg)

"Nice" Chris nodded. The system was extraordinary as usual. Five hundred bullets in one round for a revolver. Although he didn't know how damage was calculated, he was sure the damage from the baron revolver was lethal.

"You came quite punctual, something most newbies don't keep to" Detective Warren nodded at Chris who was clad in his new cop uniform and was sitting over him.

They were currently in his office.

"I keep to work ethics sir" Chris tried to sound like those hard working employees in hollywood movies.

"I just hope you keep to that" Detective Warren smiled.

"Let's go down to business. I heard my daughter say you have a knack for fighting crime?"

 "Yes sir" Chris affirmed.

"I was thinking of placing you in the patrol unit, but decided against that. Since you enjoy fighting crime, the detective unit is your main stage" Detective Warren studied the young man before him.

Truthfully, he couldn't just figure out what was special about him like his daughter told him the previous night.

Apart from his average looks, he looked just like your regular guy. However, he still followed his daughter suggestion about placing him in the detective unit.

'I will monitor him a bit. I just hope his performance isn't subpar' Detective Warren mapped out a plan.

However unbeknowst to him, Chris was all over himself with joy. It went so easy!

What was the main reason he joined the police? to fight crime!

Although it was a quest given to him by the system, the primary reason was to fight crime!

Although joining the patrol unit wasn't bad, it would limit his actions. But the Detective unit was different. It was a perfect cover for him!

However, Chris was quite sensible. He swiftly concealed his emotions, retaining a poker face.

'Oh? he kept his emotion in check?' Detective Warren's view of Chris increased a bit.

If it were other new recruits, they would've been trembling with excitement while offering an endless stream of 'thank-yous'

"What do you think young man?"

 "I am glad to serve"

"Heh. Don't speak like you're in the military" Detective Warren chuckled.

"Write your number on this paper. Your squad leader would contact you later in the day" he pushed the slip of paper on the table, towards Chris.

"Uhm sir. Does joining the detective unit make me a detective?" Chris asked the question in his mind, after writing down his phone number.

"Oh, becoming a detective is not that easy" Detective Warren seemed to have anticipated this question.

"Right now, you are just a cadet. A police officer in training. You have to rise up the rank of a cadet, to a full fledged police officer before writing an exam to become a detective. Although you can get an earlier promotion, it depends on your merit in the field of crime investigation. Do you understand young man?" Detective Warren took his time to explain.

"So from here on out, what should i do?" Chris was lost in a maze.

Heck! he never knew the police system was this complicated. He just thought police were those cops standing at the road and apprehending those drunk teens over speeding in traffic.

"Good question. Right now, you are just a rookie, i bet your bones are still tough. You see, our job is quite tough. Who knows you might get shot by a deliquent one day or get caught in an explosion.. that's if you are part of a bomb squad"

"But the point is, you are not yet ready for the risk. But there is a place that can help with that"

 "Where?"

NPD Academy -

"Here?" Chris got down from Detective Warren's truck as he peered at the huge building before him.

He thought the Sixth precinct was large, but this one was six time it's size.

"Welcome to the Nottinhemier Police Department Academy. All around the state, this is the second most important LEA center, after the Nottinhemier Police Department headquarters" Detective Warren brought out a cigarette, tossing a lighter at Chris.

 "Lit it"

Chris obediently did as he was told. Detective Warren drew in and puffed out a string of smoke.

'The cops smoke?' Chris wondered inwardly.

"Are we in a school perhaps?" Chris asked as they made their way towards the Academy building.

All around, he could see Cadets like him on patrol. Their way of walking was quite systematic.

{P.S: Chris is currently in his uniform]

"You can say that. But i prefer calling it a training center"

The duo got into the building without a hitch. They made their way over to the female cop standing behind the lobby counter.

"Call out your director" Detective Warren ordered.

"Excuse me?" the female cop frowned, obviously displeased at Detective Warren's rude and bossy attitude.

Infact not just her, Chris was dumbfounded at his abrupt change in attitude. Wasn't he a good softspoken and patient listener?

'Or perhaps he's prone to shifting moods? or worst, has a dual personality mental issue?'

At the mere thought of this, Chris palm went sweaty. He vowed to never get on Detective Warren's bad side. Who knows when angry, he might just pull out his glock and start a killing spree.

"Spare me that crap. Call your director now!" the tone of Detective Warren's voice rose a bit.

'Don't pull the gun please. Don't pull the gun. Don't pull the gun' Chris mumbled a silent but fervent sultra.

"Ok" the female cop decided to respect the order of rank. She typed on her telephone and put a call across.

"Hello Sir.. Sir, a lieutenant demands to see you.. Sir i tried explaining.. okay.. yes sir"

The female cop dropped the telephone and glanced towards Detective Warren and Chris.

 "The director's office is at.."

"Excuse me" Detective Warren cut her off.

"Did i ever say i wanted to see him? let him come down here himself!"
