Chapter 16

"I know you guys know the reason why I called you. The death that happened at Placid hotel. I want an investigation, and a full report on it, since it concerns the ongoing investigation of what happened at that unknown club. I want Daily Research to be the first to publish this. You get me!" Mrs. Taylor Leon commanded, and everyone nodded.

"It's competition, people! Anyone of you who breaks, and publishes this case first will be promoted to the second stairs. You'll no longer be an intern, but a full-blown journalist." She told them.

"Ooh. Desperate." Someone commented with a whisper.

"Y'all got me, right!" She hollered.

"Yes ma'am!" Everyone answered.

She nodded and left towards the elevator.

Kara let out a huge sigh. "Things are becoming serious." She said as they walk back to their desks.

Zoey nodded in agreement. "Although I still wonder how you knew he died."

"Isn't it obvious? His message was his testimony. People who do that are about to die."

Zoey frowned at her. "Oh."

"We're lucky we have the lead. We could break this case, Zoey. Even reporters will meet us for a scoop." Kara told her with a smile, and Zoey nodded smiling too.

"I feel like a bad person smiling when someone just died," Zoey commented.

They got to their desk and sat down. "Kara, you should ask your mom how the investigation is going, and what they've found out. I doubt they haven't come across the message that was sent to you."

Kara blinked remembering he deleted it. Although she wondered why knowing he knew he'll die. "Quick question, did Renard have a family?"

Zoey nodded. "He's a divorcee, with two daughters who are living with their mom, and they live very far from Kansas."

Kara equally nodded. 'I'm pretty sure he didn't want them to know he was involved with ratting them out, or his family could be collateral damages no matter how far they live.'

"I'll talk to my mom." She told Zoey.

"I still wonder why I have to meet with Ace Lewis, dad. He's not even really an employee in his father's carpenter business."

Mr. Stark sighed. "Son, just do it. It's nothing wrong with two sons of million dollars company meeting each other. Again."

Hunter shook his head. "I don't care about Ace, dad. A very long time ago."

"You're gonna have to meet him, Hunter. John Lewis's company has increased for the past eight years we decided to cut the cord. We have to tie it back together."

"You know something tied together, doesn't stay tied for too long, right dad?"

Mr. Stark nodded. "Yeah, it doesn't. That's why we'll make sure we're on the victory side of the cord, and he's well..not."

"What vendetta do you have against Mr. Lewis, dad? You were good friends."

Mr. Stark smiled. "It's a long story, and I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one thinking this way. I'm pretty sure he has a reason to want to strike a deal with us. That's why you'll make it happen, Hunter. He might not know that I'll easily accept, so do a good job."

"I'll be meeting an old friend, dad. One who's now an enemy."

"That's why you can make it happen. That's why I made sure the two of you meet for it. Work it out. For the company's sake."

Hunter nodded. "Next tomorrow, then."
