Chapter 19

Kara smirked at the byline she used in her writing. 'Capture of a vile drug lord.'

"You think that's okay?" Zoey asked.

Kara nodded. "Yeah. If we want to put info about the weapon, there won't be too much to write about it. That's why I wrote in it that Julius Ortiz and the late Renard Harswell were working on a weapon unknown to the public. A weapon that didn't go as planned due to Renard's mistake that led to his death." She said reading out loud and looking at Zoey. "My mom said Julius won't talk to anyone, and he's more scared now that Leonard will be sharing a cell with him. He's scared of dying so, the weapon can't be our byline. We've got nothing much on it."

Zoey nodded in understanding. "But the drugs, there is enough evidence thanks to the pictures you snapped."

Kara equally nodded. "Yep." And then she clicked the print button and printed them out. "Let's go show it to the boss." Kara closed her laptop.

Zoey smiled, and they stood up to the elevator.

Mr. Stark's jaw clenched at the newspaper in his hands. 'Capture of a drug lord.'

He shook his head. "That Leonard. I thought he said everything was okay at his side. How could he get caught?"

He scanned through the written note and furrowed his brows at it. He looked up at the name of the journalist. Kara Rogers.

"How did she know this much? A clear picture of the club, and the drugs, the engineer, and the programmer, and then about the weapon, and Leonard himself trying to kill the engineer." He mumbled to himself.

Then he dropped the paper in anger. "Whoever that girl is must have been working on this for a long time. Whoever she is, she must know more than what is written. She must know that I have a hand in it, but couldn't write it due to no evidence."

He took his phone from his desk and dialed.

"Hello."

"Mr. Stark."

"I want a full report on a girl named Kara Rogers."

"On it." Then he hung up.

"Kara Rogers? What got you interested?"

Mr. Stark turned and looked at his son. "You know there's a reason why I have a door, son. It's for knocking."

Hunter nodded. "I thought I was different."

Mr. Stark just sighed. "Tomorrow is your meeting with Ace Lewis. Are you ready?"

"It's nothing to be ready about, dad. You said I should accept."

"I want it hard, Hunter. I don't want you to go easy."

Hunter nodded. "Trust me, dad. With Ace, I can never go easy."

Hunter looked at the newspaper. "Kara Rogers. You seem one step ahead of my father."

He chuckled seeing the write-up. "Wow. What more have you got to tell?"

He knew his dad was involved in the club because he sent someone to follow him there. That someone couldn't get anything, but this Kara girl...

"Hmm." He chuckled. "There won't be any wrong if they meet, would there?'

"I have to confess, the both of you did a great job in such a short time you were here. I'm proud."

Kara and Zoey smiled at the comment.

"My promise is still there. Pack up your things, 'cause you'll be the first in history here in Daily Research to leave the basement, and be promoted to the second floor in the span of two weeks."

Zoey gaped with a chuckle and looked at Kara who was trying to contain her excitement.

"You guys should keep up the good work."

They both nodded and left her office.

"Oh my God. We're no longer interns. You're now a full journalist, Kara."

Kara looked at her with a smile. "And you're my sidekick."

Zoey slapped Kara on the shoulder making them stop in their tracks. "I told you not to call me that. I did most of the...um, of the computer work."

Kara chuckled and nodded. "You're my partner, as you've always been, Zoey. I was only pulling your legs. Without you, I wouldn't have gone anywhere, or gotten anything....fast. I mean, I would have, but not as quick with two people, 'cause you know, as they say, two heads are better than one, so.."

"OK, enough. You're beginning to ramble. Let's go."

Kara smiled, and they kept walking toward the elevator.
