Chapter 5

As he opened his eyes, he found himself lying in the same room as before, only this time, it wasn't strange.

He sat on the bed, and as his eyes trailed the room, a heavy sigh left his lips as he thought-

'All these are mine!'

The DeVille Empire was not just any ordinary business conglomerate; it was a global powerhouse that spanned multiple industries. From real estate to technology, banking and pensions, their influence reached far and wide; their wealth was beyond imagination.

Kraig's mind raced with a flurry of emotions. Disbelief, confusion, and curiosity all vied for his attention. He couldn't wrap his head around the fact that he was part of a wealthy family.

There was a sudden feeling of anxiousness that crept underneath his skin. He didn't know if he could handle it all.

Suddenly, the doors opened, and his thoughts were quickly buried when he saw his grandfather walking inside. "You must have been really shocked. I'm sorry for that."

Kraig  tittered, "What's there to be sorry for?" He sighed, "You only told me about my family." Kraig smiled at his grandfather.

He wasn't at all eased, but he faked it. Every glance at his old man made the story about his parents' accident resound in his head. The more Kraig thought of it, the more pity he had for his grandfather, who had spent eighteen years searching for him.

"You must have been lonely." Kraig stared dazedly at him.

"I will no longer be." The old man chuckled, and they both laughed. "Come with me; there's a lot you have to learn. I won't always be here forever."

Kraig's lips parted, and when his grandfather walked out of the room, he followed.

They arrived at the old man's study. Kyle and a man who seemed to be in his fifties was waiting for them.

"Good evening Mr. DeVille." The older man greeted.

Kraig stared at the man anxiously.

"He is our family lawyer, Mr Bradford, and he's here to handle the transfer documents." His grandfather responded.

The lawyer placed the documents on the table, and the old man instantly signed the documents and then waved the pen at Kraig to sign the DeVille's wealth transfer.

"Kraig?"

Kraig hesitated for a moment, still overwhelmed by everything that was happening. He sighed as he took the pen from his grandfather and slowly signed the ownership documents.

He was now the owner of the DeVille group. All his grandfather's shares and that of his parents were transferred to him, placing him above all shareholders.

Kraig still couldn't believe it. His hands were shaking as he stared at the signed documents.

He had just found out about his family, and now a huge burden was about to be placed on him.

His grandfather noticed his expression and gently tapped his shoulders. "You can take some time off if you want."

"Thank you." Kraig chuckled, feeling very much at ease.

As his eyes wavered across the wall of the study, there was a picture of a beautiful couple hung on the wall.

Seeing the striking resemblance between himself and the man, Kraig didn't need to ask before he realised they were his parents.

Tears welled up in his eyes as he stared at them. The woman had long brunette hair and a smile that could light up a room.

"She was your mother. I will find that bastard that had them killed."

"How did it happen?" Kraig sobbed.

"The police said it was a traffic accident, but my son called me a few minutes before he died, and he only said few words." The old man's voice instantly became heavy as his eyes welled up with tears and regrets.

"He said, 'Don't sign the contract; save Kane and raise him well.' Those were my son's last words. I couldn't hear him again. And before I got there, every news station was covering the incident." Mr DeVille's fist tightened as his eyes suddenly turned cold.

Kraig could see the yearning for revenge in his grandfather's eyes, but that only lasted for a moment until a tear dripped down the old man's cheeks.

"How could they?" He cried bitterly.

Kraig held his wrist and hugged him, "I will make them pay." His voice was cold.

"First, you must take over the company and earn their respect. A CEO is nothing without the help of his employees. You might be the heir, but you need them and their undying loyalty. You have to take over and win them. I can't help you with that."

"I'm not ready yet." Kraig's words caused Mr DeVille to turn swiftly, staring into his grandson's eyes.

"But why?"

"Grandfather, I don't know anything about running a company, and I can't just walk in and take over without having a clue. I need to finish college, and while at it, I'm prepared to take tutors on the DeVille group."

Mr DeVille snickered after hearing his words, "You are just like your father, always careful. Sure, I will allow you to do that while Kyle teaches you everything you need to know. But, you will live with me henceforth."

"I will." Kraig smiled at his grandfather.

Kyle walked closer; he cleared his throat as he placed five black cards on the desk and about three cars keys. "These are for you, Mr. Kraig."

Kraig's eyes widened. He picked the platinum card, "Isn't this what I see in movies? The platinum black card!"

His grandfather laughed and said, "Apparently, in this movie, you are the star."

Kraig gazed at the platinum black card in his hand, his mind still reeling from realising that he now possessed a rare VIP credit card.

His gaze drifted towards his parents' picture on the wall, "Do you think it was one of the business associates that killed my parents?"

His question came as a shock to his grandfather. There was a time Mr DeVille had thought about it, but he never found evidence.

"I don't know, Kraig."

Kraig swallowed his breath, "I will take just one black card and a car. I live quietly until the culprits are found."

Mr DeVille thought of it as a great idea. Kraig was the only reason he survived the past eighteen years, and he would do anything to keep him safe.

"Kyle set up secret bodyguards for him. They are to always watch Kraig without going closer to him, so one will suspect."

"Yes, sir." Kyle bowed.

Kraig subconsciously held his breath as his gaze fell on the car keys. There was no way he would go around driving different cars every day as it would cause unnecessary attention.

He stared intently at the keys, wondering which brand was better. Finally, he picked the one with a Benz logo and pressed the button.

The buzzing sound of the car from outside disturbed the entire mansion. He quickly ran outside to check out the car, and to his surprise, it was the latest model.

"OMG!!!"

Suddenly his phone beeped. When he looked at the screen, it was a message notification-

'All students are to be in class 8 am tomorrow to be paired into groups for the upcoming presentation.'

Kraig suddenly recalled how he was treated on his first day and at Jade's birthday party. A desire for revenge rushed through his nerves.

"I'd like to go shopping." Kraig's lips curved into a smirk.
