Bold step

CHAPTER 4

STEPHEN’S POV

“What did you just let out of that rickety mouth of yours?” Susan slurred despite the shocked look on her face.

She’s apparently trying hard to give out the usual ‘boss lady’ demeanor, but her brows betrayed her. They trembled slightly, and that flickering moment, I couldn’t help but let out a smirk as I grew bolder and said the next words.

“I don’t need your money anymore! It’s time I end my slavery! I can’t continue like this, ok? Go find another dog to put on your leach! It’s over!” I yelled out with all the boldness left in me, then I proceeded to push her away from myself.

She staggered and would have fell hard if the car weren’t behind her to stop the fall. And I held her shoulders tightly, a new surge of boldness flowing in my bloodstream as my fingers almost dug into her skin.

She was looking at me shockingly, but at the same time, she kept her alpha look intact, she’s not one who gets shaken easily anyway.

“Get your filthy hands off me, vermin! You won’t get away with this, and you know it! You’re joking with your existence, Stephen” she gritted menacingly, meaning every word.

I smiled slowly, letting another wave of boldness take over me as I leaned over to her, letting the hot air from my fast breaths hit her stony face.

“We’re getting a divorce, and that’s it!” I growled in her face before letting go of her shoulders.

“Stop right there, Stephen!” She ordered authoritatively as I began taking fast steps away from her, away from the devil, from hell.

Honestly, I’m still a bit scared for my life, I know what’s going to happen to me if I walk away and later get caught, but I didn’t let that stop.

I must leave, I have suffered enough insults to last a lifetime.

I know many people would advise me to think rationally at this point, but trust me, I made this decision with my clear vision and full rationalism, it’s over now… forever.

“Stop on that spot! Stephen!” Her command came again, but I continued ignoring her.

Soon, she stopped calling onto me, and a victorious smile crept into my lips.

But the smile wiped off my face when a realization dawned on me…what am I smiling about when I have nothing to live for anymore? My only means of getting money to pay my tuition fees is gone, and I’m smiling?

I thought I was free, but little did I know that what’s coming for me is far worse than everything I’ve ever experienced in my whole life. I was suddenly grabbed by a pair of strong arms from both sides, and an unexplainable fear gripped me.

A thick rag was shoved in my mouth before I could make any sounds, and a black blindfold curtailed my face. I wanted to fight back, but couldn’t because a pair of strong hands were depriving me.

Then a thick ropes tied up my arms behind me, and I was bundled on a shoulder.

I’m helpless and hopeless already, I couldn’t take any action because I was gagged, blindfolded and tied up… it’s over for me. Had I known this was the repercussion of my action, I would have turned back when she called me earlier.

A muffled scream left my mouth when I was roughly thrown in a car’s back seat. I knew it was the back seat of a car by the texture of where I landed.

The car’s engines roared to life immediately, and it drove off at an incredible great speed, making me fall off the seat into the floor of the car, and hitting my head against something hard and I blacked out.

••

I couldn’t count the minutes or hours, but when I opened my eyes some moments later, I found myself back in my room, back in the mansion!

I was shirtless.

My eyes widened insanely, and I didn’t find out I was still tied until I tried to stand up, and then I realized the ropes were still intact on my wrists which were tied behind me.

Why am I back here?

My question was answered when Susan came in, and all the air in me flew out when I saw what she’s holding. A black belt.

I should have known better, I should have kept my patience until the last minute, and now I’m back to where I thought I’ve escaped.

I’m back to the abyss, to being her leashed husband. Furthermore, I knew I couldn’t escape anymore, she won’t let me, not after all I said last night.

She had a venomous smile on her face as she walked to me, folding the upper part of the belt in her palms, while the lower part dragged creepily on the ground as she walked.

I tried to shift on my spot, but it was impossible, thanks to my tied hands.

“S.. Susan I…

My sentence was cut short when she raised the belt on me, and immediately it made contact with my bare body, insane pains danced through my skin, and tears rushed down my hopeless eyes as she raised it on me again.

Lashes on lashes, it kept coming, and my skin peeled in countless places as my blood cascaded down.

At the tenth lash, I cried out loudly. I couldn’t take it anymore.

“Please Susan! It’s all my fault, so stop! No divorce! We aren’t divorcing, I take it back! Stop.”

Her lips spread into a victorious smile as the beads of sweat on her forehead fell. Sweat from the torture she just bestowed on me.

“You know better, then to defy me again” she muttered devilishly, throwing down the belt before raising her heels on my face.

She gave me a stinging kick on the face, and my head hit on the wall. My eyes turned on their own, and I spit out blood.

“F**k you.” She spat, walking out of the room.

••

It has been a month now, one month since the occurrence, and I’ve been doing my best at lying low, being an obedient dog to Susan, and an object of constant mockery and abuse to her hateful parents.

My dreams of freedom crashed anyway, maybe I’ll be stuck in this volcano forever.

Mr. and Mrs. Clinton were sitting in the evasive living room when I stepped out.

Susan has been feeling weird for a while, and she went to the hospital this morning.

She’s back, and she’s seated in the living room with them, smiling like she just achieved a lifelong dream.

“Seems you’re not useless after all. Susan is pregnant” Mr. Clinton broke the ice, and my eyes widened.

No matter how low I stoop, no matter how worthless I am, I’d never allow this injustice when the truth is Crystal clear.

My boldness stepped up again, and I spoke.

“I’m sure I’m not the father of that baby, isn’t this a contract of marriage? Susan?”
