Revenge System

Daemon passed through the rooftop’s door and left it slightly ajar. As soon as he did, the student fell to his knees. His fingers are still trembling and his whole body feels cold and hot at the same time. A sensation that shouldn’t even be possible and yet there he is. He would’ve even thrown up if not for him stopping himself.

“This is a lot more nerve wrecking than I thought.” Daemon muttered to himself as he forced his body to get ack up. An attempt that proved to be unsuccessful right away.

There’s just no energy left in his legs after what he just did. Even with all the cocky talk he had with Astaroth about being ready to kill, in the end, he’s also human. Inflicted by the same plagues of morality that will eventually make it harder for him to extract the next parts of his revenge.

“I didn’t even have to kill him directly but I’m already left in this state.” Daemon chuckled. “I’m so pathetic.”

He really wanted to push Grant off the rooftop. He did. But he just doesn’t have enough will to push through with the act. Even leaving him bleeding out is already plaguing Daemon’s conscience. That’s why he needed to get away right before Grant dies.

Cold sweat continued forming around Daemon’s body. But the only thing he can think of is the death of Grant. This is the requirement for him to receive the [System] after all. But then, as he waited, another thought came across his head.

What if Astaroth lied? What if the person he met won’t actually give him powers but, just wants him to kill a person? What if all that Daemon gets from this is time in prison? What if this will only lead to more hardships for him. He can’t help but think of these things a she waited for he is only human and, all his life, he’s only received deception after all.

But this time it’s different. He didn’t make an agreement with another huamn. He made a deal with the devil. And a devil, even with all their malice, never lies.

[Congratulations! You have unlocked the System.]

A red game like screen appeared right in front of Daemon. This took him by surprise and made him hit the wall behind him. As soon as he did though, there is a strange feeling that overcame him. All of a sudden, the thoughts that lingered from killing Grant vanished completely.

He doesn’t feel lightheaded anymore, nor is he nervous about what he just did. What he has at that moment is more clarity than he’s ever experienced in his entire life. A calm that he now only enjoys and, the reason for this appeared on the same game like window.

[You finished the initial part of the Primary Quest]

[You have acquired a new skill - Mind Cleanse]

[Skill Information: Grants immunity from negative effects on the mind.]

Daemon can’t help but chuckle again after reading this. Now that the power is actually granted to him, he’s left in a state of disbelief.

[The Seed of Cultivation has awakened in your body.]

[Once all three parts of the First Quest is finished, the true cultivation will begin.]

“Cultivation huh.” Daemon murmured.

He remembered the conversation he had with Astaroth before he left. About how the cultivation is basically in the form of leveling up.

“That’s a concept I keep on reading on these novels. It’s actually pretty cool! Can you imagine getting powers through a game-like feature?” Astaroth said to him with much enthusiasm. “Anyway, it took me some time to gather all the powers necessary to even attempt this. So you better be grateful to me mortal.”

Now that he thinks about it, Astaroth is the first being that’s ever been good to him after his parents died. The funny thing about this is that Astaroth isn’t even a human. He’s a demon, though Daemon doesn’t know this as a fact yet. What he does know is that, he has two other parts of his quest that he needs to finish.

[First Part – Kill Grant]

[Completed]

[Second Part – Kill Haze]

[In Progress]

[Third Part – Kill Gerald]

[In Progress]

“So I just need to kill the three responsible for my murder huh? Sounds easy enough.” Daemon said nonchalantly.

The first skill he gained is working in full effect. He really doesn’t feel any negative effects at all. In fact, he’s already beginning to plot how he’s going to kill the other two. But just as he began to think of this, a flashlight suddenly hit the stairs.

“Hello? Is anyone up there?”

Daemon slowly got back to his feet. Normally, he’d bolt up because of nervousness but, [Mind Cleanse] helped him not feel nervous at that moment. Allowing him to think clearly on what he has to do.

“Hello?"

That’s the voice of the guard of the school’s night shift. Daemon’s able to bypass this person because he went through a blind spot he learned because of the bullies. This is where they’ll pass through whenever they take too long beating him up within school premises.

Ironically, it’s the same route that Daemon used to take his revenge…and it felt good.

“I know someone’s up there.” The guard began to take steps up.

As he did, Daemon matched the steps with his own. Making the lightest of steps as he took off his shoes as well. He then went for the door of the rooftop which is just within reach. There is a mild creak that this would’ve created, if not for the fact that it’s still open.

This allowed Daemon to pass through without making any sound and, move as swiftly as he could to where he left Grant’s corpse. This is the biggest problem at the moment. He can easily hide himself but the corpse is a different matter altogether.

Time is of the essence and, thankfully, even with all of this happening, he can still think clearly. That’s why he isn’t shocked when Grant’s corpse is missing. A system message appeared in front of him at that moment but, Daemon doesn’t have time to read it because, in that moment, the guard’s light hit the rooftop.
