Vana's POV
“The question now would be, Would you join the team or not?” King Gregory asked.
I thought of the King’s proposition, considering all the possible advantages I’ll get from it. Being part of the King’s investigative, shadow team means that my achievements won’t be publicized, and I’ll be working in the dark. All I can imagine is my skills not being appreciated enough.
But we’re also talking about the case of the Serpent and Scorpion as well, which is a cold case that Jerome and I were trying to solve. Our last conversation about that topic was a week ago, and since then, we’ve stopped on a dead-end, still waiting for a response in the request we asked from Professor Zander.
He didn’t forget, did he?
Even if we’re back to our guilds, there’s no assurance that we can compile evidence and search for information we need. Not only are we limited in
Vana's POV I tapped my boots against the pavement as I wait for my companions to arrive. It has been two days since our graduation ended, and today is the day of our mission. I leaned against the wall, watching as the crowd and vehicles pass by on the main road in front of the clock tower. Just like our previous mission, I was first to arrive, and I had to wait for them to arrive. I wore a white long sleeve and a knitted vest, tucked in on my black shorts with my holster belt wrapped around my waist. My ankle boots clacked at the stone ground with a beat, my head bobbing to the beats it creates. “Have you been waiting long?” a voice wondered, leaning next to me. I lifted my gaze up to Jerome, recognizing his voice. He leaned against the wall next to me, wearing shades to block the sunlight against his eyes. He looked down at me with a wry smile, and I smiled back out of court
Vana's POV It took us a few hours before our vehicle arrived in front of the museum, hopping out of the vehicle as we gaze at the museum’s entrance. It was pass five in the evening when we arrived, and the first sign of sunset has emerged from its sleep. Chairman Zerondale led us inside the museum, taking us straight away to the basement floor of the museum. The floor was surrounded by high security, with specialized wizards guarding all entrance and exit of the basement floor. The difference in security is enormous compared to the last time we were here. And only a month has passed since then. Artifacts were encased in a glass box in the floor’s hall, displayed in square pillars and lined in a few organized lanes. Open archways stretched across the walls, divided by walls in between the rooms inside. Each open room is guarded by a wizard, with the artifact inside sealed in a
Vana's POV “I hope both of you are not planning something,” Professor Zander mumbled behind us, his voice whispering against our ears. Jerome and I turned around by instinct as we hear Professor Zander’s voice behind us, shuddering at the thought that he might’ve heard our voices. Jerome and I exchanged glances as gulp, already knowing what we’re supposed to do. “Who says we’re planning something?” Jerome wondered, feigning ignorance. Professor Zander’s eyes turned into slits as he gazes at us, a suspicious look menacing in his gaze. “I heard the two of you murmuring, and knowing the both of you, I can tell that you’re up to something,” he said, pointing out our actions. “We promise we’re not up to something. Why would we be doing something risky in this mission in the first place?” I denied, reasoning with Professor. “Because you
Vana's POV Jerome and I immediately left our hiding places as Mr. Archi leaves Klein within the secret path. We crossed the road again in swift movements, crouching behind the tall grass and bushes as we conceal ourselves from their sight. Mr. Archi went back to the direction of the city, walking away until he disappears from our sight. Klein, on the other hand, did not walk through the path where Mr. Archi walked through, staying in the same place they talked to for more than a couple of minutes. “Why is that guy not leaving?” I wondered, grunting as I peer through the gaps of the grass. “Maybe that area behind the path leads somewhere,” Jerome said, tilting his head to me. “Should we check?” “I think we should.” With a nod, we slowly stood up from hiding, sliding across the road for the third time as we hi
Vana's POV Klein escorted us down inside the Igneus’ camp, with four of their members surrounding me and Jerome. We may not be tied with our hands on our back, but we’re completely guarded in case we try to escape their clutches. Our weapons aren’t taken from us either, which may be a good thing to consider. Our feet crunched against grass and leaves to hard soil and rocks as we enter Igneus’ camp. Wary and suspicious eyes greeted us as we ran into the other members, stealing glances at us as they walk past us. Flames engulfed the area around the tents, torches lit with strong charcoal. I peeked a look through the tents that we walk by, taking note of the objects and things my eyes caught glimpses of. The tents were basically like sleeping tents, with a floor bed and small tables on the side for the members’ belongings. We were led to a tent on the other side of where we came
Vana's POV “The answer can be quite simple. He’s planning on hatching the Dragon Egg.” My brows furrowed, raising an arched brow at Ms. Mera. “Hatching the Dragon Egg?” I wondered. “Vana, are you deaf? Yes,” Jerome scowled, lowkey insulting me. I glared at him, annoyed at his reply. “The Chairman is desperate to get his hands on the Dragon Egg. The only reason I can think of for him to go this far to have it is that he wants the Dragon Egg to hatch and be born in this world,” Ms. Mera explained. “Why would Chairman Zerondale want to hatch the Dragon Egg? It’s the last remaining Dragon Egg, right? And it hasn’t hatch in almost a whole century,” Jerome asked. “It hasn’t hatched for almost 70 years, and it is deliberately kept that way. The Dragon Egg could have hatched a long time ago, but it didn’t because our tribe prevented from hatchin
Vana's POV The roof of the museum was surprisingly slanted after Jerome, and I climbed our way up to the only open entrance of the museum at the moment. I thought it would be a rooftop with a flat ground. I was wrong. “The architecture fooled me into thinking it won’t be slanted,” I commented as I balance my way on top of the room, scooting over to the window door at the center of the building. This is crazy. I’ve never been a gymnastic or acrobatic person, but this obstacle is making me face the acrobatic side of me. I reached for the handle of the window door, twisting it to unlock it. I quickly slipped inside, my feet resting on top of a metal plate. I held the door open for Jerome, letting him skid inside before closing the window. “Why is this so hard?” Jerome scowled, grumbling. “Because it was supposed to be Igneus heading down this path and not
3rd POV Vana’s team immediately froze on their spots as their eyes glimpsed at King Gregory and Ms. Yuna. They were both seated on the couch at the center of the room, their heads tilting at the team’s direction with intimidating gazes. Vana gulped, suddenly nervous at their presence. “Y-Your Majesty, King Gregory. It is a surprise to see you here,” the Chairman greeted, lowering his head with a fluster. “Yes, its quite a sudden visit as I wanted to see the situation of House Glyndel. You may call it an observation, since Duchess Even has just been appointed as the new Minister of Foreign Affairs,” Gregory stated in a musing tone, a quick smile flashing in his face. “Is that what brought you here?” Ms. Angela asked, skipping the formal greeting as she steps forward. Unlike the rest of them, she’s the only person unnerved by the king’s presence. “Mostly.
