CHAPTER SIX: THE INTERVIEW

"Can you tell us a little about yourself with your qualifications?" Asked Mr.Wright one of the interviewers present for the interview program which is the last segment to determine those people they would later employ and to the subsidiaries they would work for.

"My name is Richard Joel,an aspiring business analyst. I had my degree at Kref university here in kandon and had worked as a part-time staff at various restaurants and even worked briefly at Grandy at their marketing unit.

" That is great,so we shouldn't expect less from you.From your own angle, Brown company as a case study,are there ways to increase the company's revenue?" another interviewer, Mr.Stephen asked Richard.

"I believe that increment in revenue generation would be made possible by adopting two basic methods. Firstly,I believe that improvement in the output delivered to the masses should be made. Also, I believe that personnels should be reduced in order to reduce the dependency ratio."Richard said with confidence and used his eyes to observe the interviewers whether the suggestion has an effect on them.

"Mr.Richard,well done and thank you. We promise to get back to you soon without doubt. Mr.Wright said and then called on the next person for the interview.

"The next person is Olivia and she was also asked to introduce herself by one of the interviewer.

"My name is Olivia Grace from Kandon. Although I did not have most of my education here in kandon including my degree. I have a flair for business administration, unfortunately I've not been opportuned to work in any organization as I'm just a fresh graduate. If I'm later employed to this great establishment,it would be my first place to work and I promise to deliver my all to the growth of this company."Olivia said with so much conviction, she won't want to miss the opportunity to work here.

"Well said Miss Olivia, what do you think we can do to increase the revenue generated by the company? even though the company is the leading company in the business world, I believe there should be somethings to do. Mr.Stephen asked her.

"This is a complicated question if you ask me, but I believe that the best way is to reorganize the company staffs so as to curb the corruption among the staffs.When the staffs are monitored I believe increase in revenue would be easy.This I believe is essential because the organization is the staffs and the staffs are the organization", she answered.

"This is quite a good response miss Olivia,we will get back to you. Thank you for your cooperation". Mr.Stephen said convincingly.

These are the questions they were asked with each person replying to the best of his ability until it got to Ven's turn...

"Mr.Ven can you tell us more about yourself with your qualifications?" Mr.Stephen asked Ven

"My name is Ven Kelvin from Krumb town. I schooled there and also had my university degree from the university there where I studied financial management and graduated with the best result there. I have worked part-time at two restaurants also in Krumb before I moved down here for greener pastures."He said and stopped as it would be safer to say a few if he does not want to be asked about his family.

" Here in your university certificate, it appears that you graduated with the best results in the whole university, with this result, I'm sure that you would have been offered a lecturing post and within a few years you would have completed your postgraduate degrees and with that kind of pace, you would have become a professor in years to come. Why didn't you accept but instead choose to go through this interview stress which you're not sure whether you would be accepted,or is there any hidden agenda attached to this?"

" You are right, Sir. I was offered a lecturing position but my dream is bigger than that. If I had accepted the offer as you said, becoming a professor would be in a couple of years but that would remain so. My dream is to make impact in the business world and not to die reading books. Also,there is no hidden agenda to this apart from having a more extensive dream and goal which to me is bigger than being a professor." Ven said with smiles even though the question was not expected,he was happy he gave a convincing reply.

"Well said Mr. Ven, what do you think we can do to increase the revenue generated by the company because I would like to hear a suggestion from a genius." Mr.Stephen asked as if not satisfied with what Ven said earlier.

" I believe that the only way is through direct management of the whole company. It is when the chairman have the direct access to the matters relating to other branches of the company and should not only be concerned about the shares of the company. "

I believe if this is done, increment in revenue won't be a dream but a reality since the chairman would be able to supervise and monitor the output of other branches in the company and this will help in curbing corruption." Ven said as if he had tasted the role of a chairman of a company in his previous life.

"We are deeply pleased with your answer and will get back to you soon. Thank you so much Mr.ven."

When the interviewers were done with the interview,they informed all the people that came for the interview through Mr.wright that those the company approved and employed would be sent a message and the day to resume also texted with the congratulatory message while those that doesn't see any message are those the company didn't later employ.

Few days later,Ven is going through some things on his phone when a message dropped from Brown group of companies. " Dear Mr. Ven, Brown family is happy to welcome you into her great family and also congratulate you on your job offer to join the Brown group of companies and you're to resume on Monday being 15th of January,. We wish you success and hope you contribute your own quota to the progress of Brown Electricity . Thank you....

Ven read the message slowly, and when he was done reading he screamed out of joy. Alex who was at the parlor came running out of fear that something bad had happened only to see Ven laughing.

"Ven what happened to you why are you screaming?" He asked .

"Guess what?" Ven threw the question to Alex.

"I'm not really good at guessing but if I'm to try Elisa is back?"

"You're wrong Alex try again, Ven said again."

"You've been given job at Brown empire right?" He guessed again.

"Finally, you're right Alex. They sent the message just now and I confirmed that I've been offered a job and to resume on Monday". He broke the news happily.

"You deserve it bro, didn't I tell you that there is no how you won't be employed unless the exam was rigged. How will they see a genius and leave him to employ others, not possible" Alex said complimenting Ven.

"Ven, I was deliberating whether I should go out today before but I don't think I've a choice here. Go and dress up we're going out now". Alex said and left the room.

"Okay bro",while he also went to dress up for the outing oblivious of where they're going.

Alex took Ven out to buy some new clothes that he would be putting on when going to work. This act of generosity amazed Ven and could only thank Alex continuously for this favor as if giving him a room in his house was not enough.

"Ven stop thanking me, you're more than that and deserve more than that. Don't you remember when we were in school the favor you did for me, If not because of you in my life then I won't have graduated with a good grade. You explained and made reading easy for a lazy dude like me and made sure you remind me always of the reason I am in school . "

Therefore whatever I do bro, you deserve more than that. He said to Ven and they both hugged each other after which they entered the car and drove back home"..

As Ven entered Brown Electricity company,he felt elated and fulfilled and also knows that he has a long journey ahead of him to reach the top. Then he also thought of his father Kelvin and believe that if he was alive he would also wish to see his son work in a reputable company like this. He cleaned off the tears in his eyes as his mind went to his father and promised himself not to cry again but unravel the mystery behind his death here in this company and deal mercilessly with the person behind it no matter who the person is.

When he died,he thought the world has come to an end as he could not even stand up for days to do anything. He didn't even go to school for a whole month as the mere thought that he was enjoying his life with a lady while his father was murdered. He blamed himself for this, and even almost forfeited school thanks to the love of his life Elisa and his dear friend, he was able to come around and then made up his mind to avenge him.

He entered the main building of the company and got into the elevator. Just as the elevator was about to close, someone put his hand in the middle and somehow managed to enter. A young man quite tall, handsome with glasses came to stand beside him.

"Good morning, I think I saw you on the interview day? My name is Ken and you?" He asked.

"My own name is Ven, and yes I'm a new employee here just like you. I think we need to visit the human resources unit before anything,"He said further to Ken.

"Yes I believe so,since we've not been dispatched to any unit yet,"Ken said to Ven.

They got down from the elevator and located the human resources unit where they also met other newly employed people like them already there waiting. Few minutes later, a man in his Fourties appeared before them and seems like he is the head here.

"Good morning everybody, Mr.Drip greeted them. My name is Mr.drip,the head of the Brown special unit. I know you would all be wondering why there is a unit called the special unit. Therefore, I will highlight few of the duties performed by this department called the special unit which all of you have been deployed to".

This unit was established seven years ago to enhance the progress of the company. The members are also known as secret agents and they infiltrate companies,they are also the main body in solving issues relating to the company and the Brown empire generally. They also take care of technical issues relating to the company and sometimes take care of members of the Brown family. Do you now understand the essence behind the establishment of the special unit and it relevance?"

"Yes Sir!!" Ven and others replied in unison.

"Good, today Miss Beneatha will introduce you to all our staffs and take you round the unit. Also, you are going on a week training and test to determine those that will work in this unit and those that will end up in other units. This is because it is the people that are the best when it comes to skills and intellectual capabilities that have the privilege to work here. This is because we work directly with the brown empire".Mr.Drip said with pride.

As Mr.Drip is talking, Ven's mind was no more with him when he heard that the unit work directly with the Brown's family . There he made up his mind that no matter what he must end up in that unit and work there as a staff.

"Ven!Ven!" Ken called him and tapped him when he saw that he didn't answer him.

"Hunn what happened?"Ven asked him after his brain reset back.

"It seems you were deep in thought, we've been told to follow the woman so that she can introduce us to other staffs.Ken said.

"Ohhh!, I'm sorry let's follow them,"Thank you Ken,ven thanked him.

They followed Miss Beneatha to the special unit and she started introducing the staffs to the newly employed employee.

"I'm Miss Beneatha by name but they usually call me Computer Machine from this, you will know my work here has to do with operating the computer, hack websites and other things that has to do with ICT." She said and started introducing others to them.

"This person beside me is Mr.Johnson who is also a staff and is responsible for acquiring information that has to do with the company and the Brown empire".

"The person beside him is Mr.Steff,he is called the (Finisher).He finishes the work when others have done their parts and also has achieved success in the various missions he partook.

"They are still other members some in the country and others not in the country all on missions in the interest of the company.Now to you people,( facing Ven and others) introduce yourselves also," She said.

"My name is Olivia Grace a new employee of this great company. I look forward to working with you and learn from all of you," she said to them.

"My name is Richard Joel a new staff of this company and I look forward to working with you all," He said.

"I'm ken Light also a newly employed staff and I look forward to working with you all."

"My name is Ven Kelvin a new employee of this giant company and I look forward to working with you and gaining from your knowledge and experience."

Others also introduced themselves after which she took them round the unit. She then reminded of the two weeks training they are to participate in through which those to work at the special unit would be determined .

Ven and others appreciated her for doing this and then asked of the place they are going for the training.

"You're going to Qawm for the training and you must be here tomorrow as early as 7:30 AM as we're traveling early to Qawm", She said to them and then bade them goodbye.

"Are you going home now?" Olivia asked Ven after miss Beneatha left.

"Yes since we're not starting anything today but to go home and prepare for tomorrow's trip," He answered.

"True though, but I even want to ask you do you wish to work at this unit?"she asked.

"Yes, I've something i must do which would be possible if I am in this unit," Ven said

"Will you like to share it?" She asked him.

"Maybe some other time,are you also interested in working here?" He asked.

"Sure,who won't want that? this unit is one of the best unit and also pay workers well".she answered.

......

They were still discussing this when they heard something crashing somewhere near them.

A tall man who is somehow handsome with a dangerous gaze was beating a staff and the amusing thing is that people were just passing as if they were not seeing what is happening.

Ven unable to take this,rushed to the place and just as the man raised his hand to punch the man again,Ven got there and held his hand.

" How dare you!!! Do you know who you are holding?"

" I don't need to know your identity before I do what is right. Why would a reasonable man hurt his fellow human being regardless of the status? it's only a weakling that does that.

" You must be stupid to say that.You know a man by his influence and status and this is how real men behave. And merely looking at you,you belong to the same class with him. I believe it's because you don't know me that is why you are talking like this. You have the grace to leave now!!"

"That would be after you've released him. Can I take him with me?"

" what are you doing here?"Mr.Drip asked Ven.

" Sir, I met him (pointing to the rude man) harassing this man so I only approached him to stop when I sensed that people were not paying attention to them." Ven said trying to explain what happened to Mr.Drip.

" You should have mind your business. It seems you're a new employee,but something you don't know is that we do mind our business here. Do you know this man?" Mr.Drip asked.

" No Sir, I don't know him." Ven said as he was already afraid with the way he's seeing Mr.Drip bow for him.

" He's Mr.Davis Brown the managing director of Brown Electricity.

" What?"............
