The knocking on the door cut the intense kissing short. While Lily was able to easily come out of the deep kissing session, Adam looked like a little puppy that was lost in a paradise of bliss. He had never imagined a woman would kiss him so passionately and even put her tongue in his mouth. Was he dreaming? Or was what he just experienced a reality?
“Who is it?” Lily cast an annoyed glance at the door. Evelyn was standing outside with a file on her face. “Tch,” she concealed her annoyance and smiled at Adam before sliding her hand over his face on the side. “Don’t forget to call me tonight.”
She then opened the door. Both Lily and Evelyn shot daggers at each other for different reasons.
“Hmph, look at you and your pencil-cut skirt,” Lily snorted. “So old fashioned.”
Evelyn just walked in and shut the door right in her face.
“This little…” Lily ground her teeth. (How dare she ignore me, the managing director of finances! I must put her in her place.)
“Sir,” Evelyn stopped five feet away from Adam who looked genuinely surprised by her cuteness. She was like the eighth wonder of the world. How could someone be so perfect? Those perfect eyes and slightly round face, and a uniform he couldn’t find fault with, and the way she carried herself, she possessed the aura of a professional at work.
“Y-Yes,” Adam found it hard to speak in front of her.
“You shouldn’t lock the door like that,” she said.
“U-Uh, I’m sorry.”
She seemed a little surprised by his response. She noticed the new gadget decorating his wrist. “A new watch?”
“Ah,” Adam briefly looked at his golden watch. “Leher gave it to me.”
“It looks like an old model. It must have cost a lot.”
“Probably. By the way, why’s there no newspaper?”
“Mm?” she slightly tilted her head. “But you don’t read ‘em.”
“I will—from tomorrow.”
“Then I’ll make sure to subscribe to the business edition,” her voice was more formal.
“No. I want a copy of all editions.”
“All?” one of her brows raised.
“Yes.”
“Okay. You have a lot of documents to sign, so please take your seat.”
Adam’s shoulder jerked a bit. “No. Signatures can wait.”
“Pardon?”
“I mean, let’s postpone them for a few days. My hand isn’t fully healed yet.”
Evelyn glanced at his right hand. “It looks just fine to me. Just tell me the real reason.”
Adam’s heart pounded harder and faster. (Why is this woman speaking so professionally in one sentence and then so casually in the next sentence? Did that bastard also do it with her, who looks so innocent and young? What should I tell her now? Surely, I can’t tell her that I’m a fake, and I’m still practicing with the signature. The maids at the villa made me overwork these past few days. I feel quite tired and overwhelmed, to be honest.)
Evelyn came closer and caught his hand.
“W-Wait, what are you…” Adam wasn’t ready for whatever he thought she was about to do.
“Your body temperature is normal,” she said. “Do you have a headache, perhaps? Want a tablet?”
“U-Uh, yeah. That’d be great.”
“I’ll go get it, so take your seat and relax.”
After Evelyn left, Adam quickly opened his mobile and opened a document where people were divided into categories and were listed according to the connection they had with the old CEO Adam. He looked at the relation category.
‘Simple’ Lily → brown-haired beauty. Full breasts. Loves to shop and buy clothes. A simple girl who doesn’t expect too much for her services.
‘Scary’ Mary → A fox in the making. Lies and farts right in your face with a smile that flashes all of her perfect teeth. If not for her amazing ass, you don’t even want to mess with her.
Evelyn → A pretty little fortress still yet to conquer. (Brunette. Wears only good clothing.)
‘Pride Queen’ Sasha → The mistress who does your massage. Were college mates when we were young and did some nasty things together, but she’s a professional now, so you better watch your words and actions with her.
The list went on with over a hundred names in it. Adam, however, was looking at Evelyn’s details. Her photo was also there.
“So she didn’t sleep with him yet, huh,” Adam felt a bit relieved. “Wait, why do I feel better?”
He remembered all the teasing the maids did to him back in the villa. “They toyed with me, but at least they listened to my request and didn’t have sex with me. I’m still a virgin, so… I know I’m forty, and I can’t pick and choose, but if at all I marry, I just want someone who doesn’t stab me in the back like my one and only ex-girlfriend.”
He was too afraid to even think of marriage until now, but Evelyn was such a beauty that she made even a man like him who feared to put his trust in a woman have second thoughts about marriage.
“Evelyn…” he kept staring at her profile pic. “She’s the second girl who fluttered my heart in my first meeting, but she’s way out of my league. She’s a swan, whereas I’m a toad. She’s like the sky, and I’m like mud. She’s like milk, and I’m like dung. She… a natural beauty like her is probably not meant to be my woman.”
While he kept downgrading himself, Evelyn brought him a tablet.
After consuming it, he said, “My headache is gone now. It must be the work of your hands.”
“Haha, funny, but I’d be happy if you put that energy into scribbling the signatures,” she put a stack of files before him. “I’d be right outside, so call me if you need me.”
“W-Wait!” he called for her, but she didn’t even turn.
After she left, he curled like a ball in his chair. His heart beat anxiously. After his studies, he never tried for a job, so he didn’t have any professional experience, and the current atmosphere made him feel little. “I agreed to live his life for a short while, but can I pull it off?”
“You are a lying piece of trash!” His aunt’s words rang in his mind. “When did I ever take money from you? You sold your property to pay off my debts? What a joke! You gave part of your liver to my husband? That’s a bigger joke! Make your story more believable if you want sympathy from the neighbors, will ya?”
Just remembering her voice and words brought up redness into Adam’s eyes. “Aunt Lucy… You are not human! You’re a demon! No, even demons might feel ashamed if I put you with them. You are… you are…” he couldn’t quickly think of what to fittingly compare her with. “You are Satan's cousin sister! Just wait! If Jesus crushes Satan under his foot, then I’m going to crush you under my feet as well!”
“Aunt Lucy… I’m going to crush you under my foot. Just wait!” Adam quickly opened the topmost file and scribbled the signature in one quick and continuous movement. “Perfect…” he smiled, but that didn’t last long as the signature was his own and not of the real CEO. “Crap.” He quickly tore the page from the file and tossed it into his mouth while looking at the door. Luckily, no one came inside. He then went on to sign over three hundred documents, and his wrist really hurt by the end of it. To add insult to his injury, Evelyn remarked that his signatures were sloppy. Nevertheless, they weren’t for financial matters, so there was no real issue there. Adam didn’t stay for long in his room, as he had a place to visit for lunch. CEO Adam always visited the most popular restaurant of the city, Ducksbelly, famous for its meat dishes, but it was also infamous for using its female waiters to wear duck costumes that exposed their belly buttons. Though there was nothing else wrong or vulgar
After experiencing the unexpected, Adam didn’t go to the office but went back to a hotel owned by his relatives, the father of his sister-in-law to be exact. The entire street was named after the hotel, Wamon. His second elder brother Eric married the only daughter of Jason Wamon, a business magnate who owned eight five-star hotels and two seven-star hotels spread out across the cosmopolitan cities around the world. Eric didn’t like the marriage because Jason’s daughter had a disability—born with a crooked leg. However, Eric couldn’t go against his father’s arranged marriage.Eric always hated the fact that his father, Parul Conreid, didn’t force Adam to marry some rich man’s daughter, and he even asked Parul why he showed such partiality to Adam. Parul always replied saying that his father’s name was also Adam, and so he would never force Adam to do anything against his will. However, Parul didn’t give complete freedom to Adam. While Adam was allowed to date any number of women as lo
Irene. That was his sister-in-law’s sister’s name. She didn’t try anything funny after tickling Adam. So, he was able to simply take her out and escort her to her room, which she very much liked.“Short, orange-haired, and has a bright smile. She’s like a little sun,” Adam was thinking about her after returning to his room.He received a call. The screen displayed the name Sasha. He answered, “Hello, who’s this?”“Are you kidding me? You’ve been through an accident, sir,” an angry voice blasted through the phone. “Your body must be in dire need of a full-body massage. Pick a date and time as soon as possible.”She must be the masseuse, he thought. Adam was told that this woman used to massage tennis professionals back in her late twenties. Now she was almost the same age as him. “How much?”“What?”“I’m asking how much will you take per massage? A full-body massage.”“You know I don’t do full-body massages to just about anyone, but you’re a regular customer, so the charge is a thousan
All the friends, relatives, and those related to the Conreid family were sent flowers, sweets, concert tickets, and wine. A bottle of Conreid wine cost 9,900 dollars and was only sold to private buyers. Many people felt glad to receive this wine harvested from exclusive vineyards and produced in limited quantities every year. It wasn’t thick, yet it offered a deep, concentrated taste. It was best known as the wine that’ll go well with any meat dish out there. The workers in Conreid companies received gift cards.Evelyn also received a 1000 dollars gift card, an expensive suit, and the Conreid wine in addition. She took it to her apartment, and her parents were most excited by seeing the wine.“A bottle of this stuff costs about a grand!” they quickly said ‘cheers’ before sucking in a small glass of it.Seeing their subtly shocked expressions, Evelyn asked, “How is it?”Her father sipped some more again and shook his head in surprise and shock. “Too good.”Her mother also nodded in agr
The next morning.Adam took a tour throughout the mansion in a golf car with his niece and nephew. Leher’s son, Jeffery, the current head butler of the mansion, also accompanied him. They stopped by the horse stable. While the children played with the ponies, Adam noticed the very many cars stored in the old shed behind the stables. There were at least fifty cars, so he was genuinely shocked.“Why keep so many cars here instead of selling them away?” Adam asked.“They are all rare models, so in a few years, they’ll sell for a great price, Young Master.”“Oh? That’s a great way of earning money. Whose idea was it?”“Haha, stop joking. It was your idea, Young Master.”“Hahaha,” Adam embarrassingly laughed.“When you said the idea to your grandfather, he was impressed even though he saw through that your real intention was just to ride all the costly cars coming into the market,” Jeffery said and chortled. “But buying these cars is easy, so Master didn’t refuse.”“Buying these many cars
Adam visited one of the research institutes to check out the progress in the 5G development. He attended the meeting of the directors. However, he kept thinking about Reena. “I wonder how she’s feeling. She must be feeling bad after going through such an experience.”Having lived on the streets, he knew how scary they could be. If he was timid or weak, he would have been physically abused by other beggars or even the police sometimes. Teenagers who got kicked out of their foster homes especially had it rough. Luckily, he became a beggar in his mid twenties, so he was able to fend off from most of the dangers that challenged him.“Should I call her?” Adam had her number, so he wanted to check how she was doing, but he also feared how she would respond. After all, she was an A-list actress who might probably be in a pissed-off mood right now from what the director had tried to pull. “No. Let’s not get ahead of myself.”The field researcher was explaining everything while showing the ani
Reena was watching TV during the break between her shoots. The news channel showed the scene of Adam playing with the street dog.The news anchor said, “Adam Conreid is seen feeding a street dog right before Conreid Headquarters. He might not have succeeded as an actor who played the role of the self-made superhero ‘Coinman,’ but he’s definitely a better hero in real life. Perhaps, the recent accident might have even made him a better person?”Reena felt envious of the dog receiving Adam’s pattings and belly rubs, but she showed her frustration by throwing the remote at the TV screen. “What sort of news is this? These useless news channels… If it was possible to capture farts, they would make 24x7 flash news of all the celebrities around the world doing it.” She walked out of her motorhome and participated in the shoot with an angry expression. The director tried to calm her down by praising her beauty and acting skills. This was the same director whom she had slapped, and then it bec
At the third school, just after giving his speech, Adam was leaving, and a reporter popped out of nowhere and kept asking him troublesome questions such as why he wasn’t talking about the complaints some parents raised about the school fees being abnormally raised every year, or what exactly he was doing in the car that resulted in an accident. Was it rash driving or something else? Why was he using a driver now? And why didn’t he include a point or two about driving safely during his speeches? There was no camera, and it was only a voice-recorder. Still, Adam didn’t answer. He was specifically told to not answer to the media anything until it was time. And Evelyn helped him by scolding the reporter for being so shameless and insensitive for asking a question regarding the accident, as it might bring out the trauma, given it should still be relatively fresh in his mind. The reporter even asked if they could enter the helicopter, but of course, they were rejected. After they were in th
