Chapter 10: A Horrific Incident

"Exactly. If your mother dies, then the entire inheritance will go to you. Is that what you want?" the whispering voice of the demon in human form rang out.

Bianca stepped away without shame and leaned into Benjamin's embrace while saying with a seductive expression, "Zayn, why didn't I realise before that you are a filial man?"

Bianca's tone sounded sarcastic as she and the Trent family laughed at Zayn. The guests also ended up joining in on Zayn's joke. The man was truly the clown of the show. When people's laughter reached Zayn's ears, it felt so painful, like thousands of sharp thorns pierced his heart.

"Enough!" Zayn said as he clenched his fists tightly and closed his eyes.

When people heard that, they gossiped excitedly. The tycoons didn't know the Hayes family, as they weren't popular, and the business Zayn had built hadn't won any awards or recognition from the public.

They were even surprised that a lowly businessman like Zayn would dare to offend the influential Trent family in Racoon City. Some people thought Zayn was a fool for choosing the wrong opponent, and others felt sorry that Zayn had the bad luck of dealing with the Trent family.

Zayn took a deep breath and made up his mind before he bitterly replied, "I'll sell it for $200,000!"

After all, Zayn couldn't afford to lose his mum. People had laughed at the man. Zayn's name and reputation had been tarnished before the successful businessmen attended the charity event.

"Haha, haha!" Benjamin laughed out loud while stroking Bianca's body with both hands.

Then, the man threw the contract paper at Zayn's face. "Wouldn't this be over if you were willing to sell it early? You came back to me in the end, didn't you?"

Benjamin behaved like an angel in front of the rich people. The man built a narrative as if he was the much-awaited saviour.

"You guys see, at this charity event, I will be doing a good deed by helping a man who has fallen into poverty. His business and his company went bankrupt. This man has just divorced his wife because he can no longer provide for her. Even his mother is currently in critical condition in the hospital."

Zayn could only watch himself being humiliated by Benjamin as the man climbed up on the podium. The lights of the charity event also shone on Zayn, giving the impression of a dramatic effect.

"Therefore, I invited Zayn Hayes, a lowly man with nothing left, as our main guest star through this event. Since I thought that every year we held charity events with only donations to foundations, this year there will be a slight change. Let's make a modest donation to Mr Hayes," said Benjamin, which drew cheers and applause from the crowd.

Zayn had then lost his pride completely. He knew the cheers and applause from the people there were not entirely sincere. It was even a sign of contempt. Favours from rich people at charity events were the last thing Zayn could expect.

Amid the chaotic situation, Bianca pulled Zayn's hand away from the crowd. She led Zayn to an area that was out of sight.

"Please sign it now!"

Zayn's face looked very miserable. Finally, Zayn picked up the pen to sign the contract for the house sale on his behalf with a broken heart. The man already had nothing to be proud of.

Some of Bianca's family members who attended the event now came out and looked at Zayn contemptuously. Some of them were not even ashamed to show a beaming smile.

"My lovely Bianca, you finally divorced this useless trash."

"Zayn's presence in our family is just a burden. I am so glad that a lowly son-in-law like Zayn will now only be a part of your past."

Zayn saw that Bianca's family seemed so grateful for the situation that had happened to him. There was not an ounce of concern from those people.

While people patronised Zayn, a man snatched the house sale contract from Zayn's hand. With a condescending expression, Benjamin said, "Since you have signed the contract, please find a way out."

Zayn was transfixed. The man did not understand the meaning of that remark. Zayn had not received a single cent since he came. The only thing the man had received was unparalleled humiliation.

"Where's my money? Where's the money to save my mum's life?" Zayn asked with a look of confusion.

"Oh, I almost forgot if you did not tell me about it." Benjamin touched Bianca's waist with a flirtatious smile on his face. They looked as intimate as a married couple. "Honey, give this rubbish man some money."

"Benjamin, you are so naughty." Bianca was wearing shorts, which made her figure even more stunning. Although the woman had a flirtatious gaze, she looked at Zayn with a contemptuous expression, as did her family.

Bianca was previously in a relationship with Zayn during college for three years, but the woman became very materialistic after graduation. Since Bianca no longer liked Zayn's poor family, she dumped Zayn and fell into the arms of the wealthy Benjamin, who always gave her attention.

Now that Zayn's fortune is gone, Bianca insults him even more. She reached into her pocket and pulled out a fake cheque for two hundred thousand dollars before throwing it in front of Zayn.

"Here, take it; you can keep the change." Bianca was being so innocent.

"All of you!" Zayn was transfixed and couldn't believe what he had just witnessed.

"By the way, your mum is going to die, so save this money for her to spend in hell," Benjamin sneered while demeaning Zayn.

Zayn's blood began to boil. Benjamin never intended to give Zayn money. The man only wanted to take the house away from Zayn, even after the show that presented Benjamin as a generous person was just a ruse because none of the money went into Zayn's pocket.

"Benjamin Trent, I assure you you will suffer the consequences!" Zayn looked so furious, and his eyes started to turn red.

The man was also eager to pounce on Benjamin. Zayn wanted to deliver several punches to the man's face. But Zayn was outnumbered by Benjamin's men. The man decided to get out of there.

"Zayn, you went too far. That man was bold in front of Trent's family. Zayn should be taught a lesson so that he realises his position," Bianca's Mother sneered at Zayn's attitude. The woman was looking for more face and attention from the Trent family.

Zayn had not walked far before Benjamin's men beat her to a pulp. Zayn was bleeding and slowly lost consciousness.

Seeing Zayn lying helplessly, Benjamin ordered arrogantly, "Take that man from here. Throw him in the rubbish bin around the roundabout. There's a hospital in front of there anyway. Even if that rubbish man dies, his death has nothing to do with us."

Bianca's family agreed with that idea. They had thought of a thousand and one ways to get rid of Zayn, but they did not dare and were not in control if something happened later. But now that Trent's family was involved, the Browns had nothing to fear.

Zayn was left in a deserted building behind the hospital, and he saw Benjamin leaving while embracing Bianca. The man's consciousness continued declining, but he could do nothing. Blood flowed from Zayn's forehead to the necklace chain on his chest. Instantly, something seemed to glow there.

"Is this the end of my life?" Zayn muttered weakly.

His sight also began to fade. The man last saw the shimmering light that seemed to surround him. Something extraordinary was clearly about to happen.
