Chapter 9: Humiliating Treatment

Zayn ignored them all. In the face of this situation, Zayn took the initiative to try to approach his in-laws. Zayn might be able to get a loan from the Brown family. The man was sure Bianca had not talked about this to anyone other than Benjamin. So Zayn tried his chances by hoping that they would be able to overcome the difficulties faced by him.

Zayn quickly picked up his mobile phone and dialled the head of the Brown family.

"The number you have dialled is out of range. Please leave a message after the next tone..."

Unfortunately, Zayn was unable to reach the Brown family patriarch. But the man did not lose his mind; although Zayn felt doubtful, he tried his luck by going directly to the Brown residence.

Once there, the person who opened the door was Jessica Brown, his mother-in-law. Seeing Zayn appear in the middle of the night, the woman enjoying her sleep then shows a sour face. Zayn immediately received a lot of reprimands from his mother-in-law.

"Zayn, are you going nuts? You came in the middle of the night just for that. Do you think the Brown family has a running ATM?"

"But, Mum, I need the money right now."

"Listen to me carefully; originally, we agreed that you would marry a member of our family to win a tender for a business deal. But what happened instead, our family had to throw away the $200,000 you used to pay off your father's gambling debts. You were not even filial after couple of years of being the Brown family's son-in-law. You chose to stay away from us."

"Mum, my mum had an accident and is in the hospital right now," Zayn's voice sounded pleading with great sadness.

"Hmm, frankly, the Brown family only thinks of you as a shield and a tool. Now, you're asking for another $200,000 because we're related. Do you think our money falls like rain? Besides, is it true that your mum had an accident and you had to pay 200,000 dollars in medical bills?"

"Yes, Mum. Right now, my mum..." Before Zayn could finish his sentence, the woman cut him off.

"How can I trust you when you always let me down? So don't try to joke around anymore. Be careful; you'll be cursed for using your mum's life to make money by cheating others!"

Zayn grunted as the door to the Brown mansion closed tightly on him. The man wasn't even let in at all. Now, Zayn felt like he had been thrown off a high cliff.

Zayn had been a member of the Brown family for a few years and worked hard every day. Zayn thought the Brown family would appreciate his hard work, but he never thought that his mother-in-law would have such an attitude. The woman did not believe in Zayn at all.

That night, Zayn approached some of his closest relatives in person. But once again, all the man got was disappointment. Everyone Zayn met to borrow money did not respond well. Instead, they all mocked and insulted Zayn and considered him useless.

Zayn had no choice but to consider selling his house, which would be bought cheaply. After all, the house was about to change ownership, and since it was now sold at a very low price, there must have been a lot of interest in buying it.

However, it turned out that no one dared to buy the Hayes family home. Zayn was convinced that Benjamin was also involved in this. Before Zayn visited her mother-in-law, she had called several housing agencies to place an advert, but none gave any feedback.

When Zayn was desperate, Bianca called again to tell her that her current boyfriend, Benjamin, was still willing to buy Zayn's house.

"This is your last chance. If you reject Benjamin's offer, no one will ever buy your house again. So make a wise decision and don't leave us waiting."

The call ended, and Zayn got a text message saying they would be waiting at a conglomerate's charity ball. Zayn decided to meet with them again, feeling he had no choice. The embarrassment is beyond words because now the man's words are proven.

When Zayn sees Trent's family, Zayn realises that Benjamin causes all the problems he is facing now. The man who targeted Zayn's family home.

The Trent family has connections in Racoon City and is closely connected to the local Arnault Association. Few people in the northern region or Racoon City dared to go against the Arnault Association. Even many government officials had to bow down to the association.

Because of Benjamin's threat, no one dared to buy the Zayn family home. However, that man only intended to pay $200,000 to buy the Zayn family home.

"Here is a man who just fell into poverty. I sympathise so much that I have to buy the Hayes family residence. So how do you still want to beg me?" The voice broke Zayn's reverie.

The man who spoke was Benjamin. The man looked arrogant and showed himself to be a generous person. The rich people around Benjamin even seemed to praise the man proudly.

"Alright then. Forget it if you want to sell it, and please continue to wait to see who dares to buy the house in this big place called Racoon City."

"What do you think?" Benjamin squinted his eyes as his men formed a dangerous formation. Several black-clad muscular bodyguards stood behind him and looked at Zayn coldly.

"I... " Just when Zayn was about to speak, the phone in his pocket started vibrating.

Zayn hurriedly took it out to see the identity of the caller. It was a doctor from the hospital calling. "Hello, doctor Sheldon?

On the other side of the line, doctor Sheldon sighed. "Mr Hayes, the deadline to pay the hospital fees is approaching. We'll have to stop treatment if we don't get the money. Besides, your mum's condition isn't very good either. Prepare yourself mentally for the worst."

BEEP! BEEP! The call disconnected and only played a busy tone, which made Zayn feel even more dilemma.

There was no time. Every minute and every second would affect Zayn's mum's condition.

Zayn couldn't take any chances. The man didn't want to, nor did he have the guts.

"Your mum almost died, huh?" Benjamin pricked his ears with his fingers and said in an arrogant tone. The man showed everyone at the party how selfish Zayn was, who cared more about wealth than saving his mother's life.

"I didn't expect a man in distress like you to be so arrogant. Are you going to wait for your mum to die before you consider selling the house?" the man continued. Zayn was completely humiliated in front of everyone.
